Spacer from what I have seen I can tell that the glass indeed is half empty

What is for sure is that the numbers of westernized indians is clearly on the rise
while indians following their own culture are decreasing

What is clearly happening is that the worst of both western culture and eastern culture is being adopted

Invasion of global media has also played a major role

    Something must be done .........

So maybe you should learn sanskrit

I believe sanksrit language is the language of the future as I have read that it is the most compatible and suitable language for computer programming

I do know hindi and I am planning to learn sanskrit in detail

If you desire to learn sanskrit I do know of a very good website which I can post a link to
All you need to do is ask..........

I dont see why you guys are so negative about India. I have lived and travelled arund the country extensively (23 years) and I have always found people with very strong spiritual instincts, morals and values. Of course there plenty of the other kind also, but you paint a badly biased picture in this thread. The greatness of Indian cluture, the reason it has survived this long, has been its ability to accept and integrate foreign cultures that have entered its borders.

We are not denying the presence of Indians who are true to their culture and know about the belief and value systems that are the essence of India
    but
the above mentioned people are decreasing in number
and are in place being replaced ignorent west worshipping ,capitalism is heaven fools

Haven't you seen the new temples of modern India that are springing up all around the country?

    They are called Malls

3 years ago there was not a single mall in bangalore
today there are 5 and more are being constructed

In these temples money is god and worshipped in all obscenity

Correct me if you are not a NRI
    but most
NRI's in their misguided zeal do nothing more than enrich the coffers of the RSS and the BJP which puts these funds to questionable uses

India is like a tree that is surrounded by a steel fence and brick wall to protect it from external dangers but is at the same time is being consumed by termites of all shapes and sizes from the inside

    It is unfortunate that
with your heart in India and your ass in Ohio you are unable to see all this

In case you have forgetten that we indians once sold out to the british three hundred years ago by backstabbing and fighting out each other

What makes you think we won't do that again ?

On the contrary. Before I came to India I thought Pakistanis and Indians hated each other but alot of Indians I've met told me Pakistanis are their brothers and the problems now left over from when the British left the country are mainly kept going by Politicians and that they would like if it was all resloved. Also one man told me that Bharat Mata (Mother India) had an arm cut-off when the British split the country and turned brothers into enemies.

Also as for your other post with regards to India now being dangerous due to many thieves and cheats, I feel safer travelling in India than I ever had in any European country and most India people are honest friendly people. I've been here over 4 months now and the country has touched me in so many beautiful ways, I've learned quite a bit of hindi and pass my days chatting to Sadhus and other people in the chai shop. Yes India is changing and becoming more western, so me a democracy that isn't.

What nobody told you is that Delhi is not only the national capital but is also the rape capital of India

According to a newspaper in New Delhi, every 6 minutes, a crime is committed against women. Every 7 minutes a woman is raped, every 45 minutes a woman is kidnapped or abducted. 335 of women are subjected to cruelty. 17 dowry deaths are reported every day

    here are crimes against foreigners

    http://http://www.washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20040816-123813-8903r.htm

There is a serious problem with regard to perception of western women in the eyes of local indians as most view them as women who are easy going and always looking out for sex
    This view is basically derived
by the outrageous clothing that some of them might wear and
the whole perverse western media that is constantly bombarding us with
perverted western programming that shows western women in extremely bad light

A foreign traveller who is a woman has to face constant harrasment at the hands of men in crowded places who are constantly trying to grope her body parts

I happen to be a witness to some really disturbing behaviour towards foreigners by local indians

All I am saying is travelling in India is not a piece of cake and I do not wish to see travellors disappointed or endangered when they come to India

I have travelled the length and breafth of India and spent much time with foreigners here and have yet to meet someone who felt threatened or unsafe.

There is crime everywhere, there is corruption everywhere. Not just in India, but around the world. Neither you nor I can change that. All we can do is not contribute to the problem and in our own minimal spheres of influence, try and spread peace. Beyond that we should try to focus on the good things, the beautiful things. Otherwise we get agitated and forfiet our peace of mind. Have the courage to change what you can, the serenity to accept what you cant and the wisdom to know the difference.

Tell me, if India is such a hell-hole, why is it that you are still there? Why dont you find a better place and go there?

As for my being an NRI, yes, I am a student in Ohio. I moved here less than an year ago. My entire trip was for the sake of the girl I was in love with, now that I am here I find it to be a wonderful place, with wonderful people. There are good and bad here also, just as much as in India or anywhere else. But what India has in terms of culture, is rare in this world. It is a special and beautiful place.

I'm off to India on September 3rd from Heathrow!!!

I'll be staying about 4 months until about new year, then heading off to SE Asia.

My general Itinary will be something like this:

Delhi, Dharmasala, wander around the mountains a bit, then Madras, Goa, Kerala then get my connecting flight to Bangkok from Hyderabad.

anyone else going around this time e-mail me, maybe we can meet up or something, i'm travelling alone.

Are you benchmarking India against the world ?
Just because there is crime and corruption in other countries does it become ok for it to exist in my country ? NO [IMG]

Speak for yourself when you say ""Neither you nor I can change that""

Frankly I have big plans for my country and my people

    Puhleaseee..............
Don't give me this crap about loss of peace of mind

    I was born with a purpose , a goal
part of which was decided by factors beyond my control and part of which I am still in control of
and I have made up my mind

I am not going to be a mute spectator to the wrongs that are happening in this world ,nor am I going to run away from the challenges that confront me

I classify NRI's into two categories

1.Those who ran away thinking they will come back to fight another day
but got so comfortable in the place that they ran away too(USA) that they
cooly chose to abandon and betrayed the hopes of millions of Indians.

2.ABCD's -2nd generation descendents of those who ran away ,born usually
in foreign countries are called American Born Confused Desi's.Usually full of shit

You left your country for a woman ?[IMG]

Frankly women are not my area of expertise
so I will refrain from commenting on your decision
which I still feel borders on the silly

India or mera Fevicol ka jodh he,tootega nahin
Is janam me nahin or kai janam me bhi nahin

I live in India because I love India
I love the good and I will change the bad

    India is my guru
and she speaks to me all the time
    everytime I breathe the air
    everytime it rains
everytime I walk barefoot on this great land in
the arms of my fellow brother's and sisters
I connect in a way that not many men can understand

She speaks through a milllion voices
Too bad you can't hear it in Ohio

relax, take a deep breath and repeat after me, Its okay to be silly, its okay to be crazy, its okay to be radical and conservative at the same time.

Let me ask you one thing, did you ever donate a million dollars to India?

Well let me be frank with you, I did not and unless you are very rich in India, I don't think you have or will either, but the NRIs that you are talking about have had their share of the millions of dollars spent in Indian economy.

Yes sadly this is true.. in a nation which prides itself on respecting women, this is true. I went to India in 2002. I felt very good that i was a guy. Women are not safe in India, they cannot travel alone , they are always sent with a male escort.

I acted as an escort many times for my sister/cousins and in laws when I was in India, but I also noticed this one thing... many women are afraid of men there and are very reserved.. or atleast made to be very reserved. I couldn't talk to my neighbor with out feeling awkward.
