I wonder if all the uproar concerning EMFs and possible adverse health effects is contributing to the slow adoption of induction heating in the consumer market.

In today's litigious society, a manufacturer has to think long and hard before releasing anything into the hands of "Harry Homeowner", who could blame anything from brain tumors to excessive flatulence on your product, especially if it involves some "newfangled, unproven" technology. :) And there would seem to be some actual hazard to a user wearing rings on their fingers while cooking on one of these things. A ring is a nice "shorted turn", and will get hot really fast in the field of an induction heater, possibly taking your finger with it if you don't react fast enough...

Problems getting such a high power RF source to meet FCC "Class B" spurious emission requirements for household use would be pretty severe, as well.

I met someone recently who was shcoked that light and microwaves were a variation of the same thing. Still I seem to hear a lot about electric fields and health effects, sometimes I wonder if theres something in it. Maybe not from induction cookers, but there seems to be strong circumstantial evidence for leukemia and power lines. I struggle to think of a mechanism given the very low energies involved but who knows. Also why is everything 2.4Ghz give or take. Phones, microwave ovens and wireless networks why? Is it simply because so much is transparent in that region or is it some alien plot to jam our own comms networks.
