You asked, I answered. If that is your idea of someone raining on your parade, stop asking questions you may not like the answer to.

you retaliated against be before I ever even knew this was a debate. And it was question that did not require an answer, in case you didnt notice. I thought the answer was quite clear

    I agree with Tom
He was in interesting kid and the book was a good read
But wandering into the alaskan brush completely unprepared isnt really inspiring its ridiculous
His life was lost for what?
And I'm sure if he'd had the chance in those last moments to go back and do things differently, he would have

Yeah a lot of people do, but wandering into the Bush was his dream and he followed it.

    Retaliated??

Odd... I hadn't noticed you had attacked me...

Here's an even better piece of advice for you then my last one.

If you don't want an answer at all, don't ask a question.

I guess what I was trying to say was that you seem a bit hostile. I don't really understand what I've said to cause such negative vibes. I understand we both have different opinions, that much is clear....I just felt like our discussion was based more of an attack of my opinions rather than a discussion of both of our opinions. maybe i just misinterpreted the signals, if thats the case my bad and sorry for causin a stir.

There was no hostility in any of this on my part.

But let's clear this up so there is no confusion, because most issues are caused by misunderstandings.

I stated my opinion of the book. Which is what the point of this thread. Part of that opinion was that those who find it inspiring (of whom there are many) confuse me, and so I asked what was so inspiring. Not to you personally, but to anyone who wanted to answer, as is how forums are used.

    You responded with;

Now when I first read it, my focus just automatically went to that part, as it was a question that seemed to be directed at me personally. After going back and re-reading it when you said there was hostility, I realize you are right and I missed it. So, on that basis, I can see how you thought I was retaliating.

What I was doing though, was answering why I felt he wasn't inspiring and showing examples of the type of people I think should be used for inspiration.

And the rest followed from there.

So, I am sorry if you tried to be hostile and I missed it, I will in future, endeavor to catch on quicker and to respond appropriately.

I am also sorry that you felt me expressing my opinion about a book that is lauded across the internet as being inspiring, in a thread, was somehow an attack on you personally.

I am also sorry that you asked a question directed at me but didn't make it clear you meant it to be rhetorical.

I am also sorry that you felt that me answering that question, was somehow 'raining on your parade'....

But mostly, I am sorry that all these things are your issues, and there is nothing I could have done to prevent how you perceived and felt about things you read in my post.

You got to read Into the Wild for English class? Lucky, all they ever give me is books about beloved, dying pets...
I just bought Into the Wild, but haven't really read more than a few pages yet. Once I'm done with Breakfast at Tiffany's, though, I'm starting Into the Wild!!!

I read this book long before most ever knew about it...
I was in the Navy and found it in the Navy ships library, beneath the catapolts of jets taking off...the hard back version...

It's one of the few books I've ever read from beggining to end....

    I'm baa-aack...
Just finished Into the Wild and was blown away. This was a difficult book to read, just because it's so freaking sad, but I made it, and I'm so so so glad I forced myself to read this book. I love Jon Karkaur's style of writing, and i liked the way he set up the book.

This book had a major impact on mylife..as well as this site. Both opened up a new realm of thinking outside the box. After reading this book, and seeing the movie. i want to follow in his footsteps. minus the dying and poor planning. Either this summer or next, i plan to hitchhike across the US. Everyone i tell this too says its dangerous. and it probably is. But its my choice. and i plan to do it. this may sound funny to some people. but i Idolize Chris.

    peace

Just please make sure someone knows where to look if you're gone longer than ezpected.....I dont want Krakaur to have to write a sequel.
    :D I think it's awesome what you're doing, though.
