I' m sure I could. But I'm trying to undetstand what you are saying, so my thoughts aren't as important.

I was agreeing with Ace's comment that freedom is an illusion. Guess I should have quoted him in my post.

I has always been my understanding that if an activity is allowed by the government it really is just a privilege, not freedom. There is a big difference between privilege and freedom. Now I wonder what freedom is in America. Does anyone know?

As always :p Anyway, I was not being a smartass, I really mean my reply to Pressed Rat.
Am I to blame for the abuse of that mindset just for acknowledging the fact that more people seem to need more regulations?

had asked about freedom in America, because I see that America's support has resulted in the ouster of Ukraine's prime minister, and the same in Egypt, Chile, Iran, and other countries.

Right, Techie from Arlington. You've validated my hypothesis. There is always some government scumbag wanting to deny liberty to a people who only wish to be free. Bob Marley sang, "Why can't we roam this open country?" In his case it was Jamaica. In our case, there are government cameras, wire-taps, toll booths, are cops all over the place. Anymore, an American can't even camp without some scumbag cop pestering him.:sultan:

Illusion. Who chooses the presidential candidates? We only vote once a few people become presidential candidates. They have a few varying points of view, but nothing significant ever changes.

Its a free country, its a free world. Lazy people without ambition, or the will to change things are disillusioned into thinking they're slaves. If you want to change something, make it happen. Be the change you wish to see.

its an illusion as far as im concerned. its a free country if you have a 9-5 a car and a roof over you head. if you want to do much else outside of that it might be tuff.

Okay, first of all, America is not a free country and I don't have anything to add to that beyond what wizardofodd said.

However, that does not mean that people, individual people, are not and cannot be free at any time. I'm free to think whatever I want... do whatever I want ten minutes from now (yes, within reason I know...), and free in the sense that no one can change what I think think, feel, believe, will do, etc.---- Souls are not enslaved.

You have the freedom of choice to lead the life you want in the US, whether you're willing to make it happen is another story. This freedom is a luxury not afforded to everyone in the world.
