So you are wholly comfortable in life now? I would imagine you experience some measure of discomfort every day. Do you get too hot, too cold, dirty, tired?

Leisure time? There are no idle thoughts. Is your life divided, compartmentalized? How many lives do you think you have?

Is a step towards anything desired a sacrifice? This would surely hold one back. Maybe this is the thought behind so many sitting back.

This is a very honest answer. And is a symbol for oppression.

"I'm too tired from work to fuck my beautiful wife."

"I could help that old woman with her groceries but then I'd be late."

"Why should I hold the door for her?"

    "When is it my turn?"

"Why should I have to wait?"

Many people spend their leisure time relaxing. Would you not always be relaxed if you were able to stop worrying about, "Me and mine?" Wouldn't you always be relaxed if you knew there'd always be enough to go around? If you were not oppressed?

Sacrificing comfort. As dope said, how comfortable are you really right now? You may be defining comfort as a warm bed, a good job, a house. Those are not comfort. We've been conditioned to think they are and we've grown dependant on them. This is oppressive. Do you assume you'd lose your job or home if you committed to a revolution? Semantics. Did you know that to this day woman in many countries give birth to their children outdoors, on the ground, in a field, etc.? Is that uncomfortable? What are they sacrificing? What if anything have they gained?

I'm talking about self-improvement-- education... real education, versus entertainment or 'training'. About learning how to build your own house instead of watching Lost season 6. About becoming a true independent who could function in ANY kind of society... and who can confidently help other people in times of need. It's nice to be courteous and respectful, but the fact that that's something we need to work towards is actually really tragic... that kind of thing should just be given.

Getting too hot too cold, dirty and tired isn't discomfort AT ALL... that's just LIFE. I'm talking about doing things that actually make you uneasy, and threaten your own sense of entitlement. About saying no to things you'd rather not say no to... things that would make you happy, but are bad for you and everyone else. Like cars and televisions and air conditioning and MacDonald's and electric heating... stuff like that... and instead choosing things that have less comfortable, less immediate, less convenient alternatives. (I left computers off the list because the internet can actually teach you things, and has great potential to help wean people off of 'the system'). All of this knowledge and information is just sitting there and too many people aren't putting it to use!

Yes, I feel all of those things-- everyone does... but I refuse to believe that 'suffering' is necessarily relative to your own lifestyle-- like a tiny draft is a major discomfort for a spoiled trust fund baby but -73 degrees is a discomfort for a man born and raised in a Siberian gulag. You can adjust to any lifestyle... it takes time, but it's possible. And I know that I'm not suffering, and I'm not sacrificing anything-- not really. Even if I decide to give some homeless guy $20, it's not really a sacrifice... there's plenty where that came from. Sacrifice is a lot of little changes... and changing consumption patterns is a lot more important than everyone being nice to each other.

When you see that there really aren't varying degrees of discomfort you will see all of that differently.

Are you ever more afraid, or are you just afraid?

First rule, don't be part of the problem.
    Second rule be the solution.
I do not drive. I do not own a television. I have a simple diet. I am unopposed in life. ...
Mostly because we find those most agreeable whom we agree with. I am always polite but no less blunt.

It's easier to go along with the B.S. than to stand up and effect change. If people WANT to believe that candidate A intends to "clean up Washington" then they will go along with the act- it's not an inability to use the brain, it's an unwillingness to do so. We WANT to think that this is all the fault of the politicians-- or corporations... as long as it's someone else. That way, the responsibility for fixing things lands in someone else's lap. Politicians know this and they play us again and again... but we willingly allow ourselves to be played.

We have no one but ourselves to blame for the problems we face and when the current "reform charades" and pretenders to change are shown for what they really are we'll have no one but ourselves to blame for once again playing along... willingly participating in our own political ans social swindle.

My vantage point is that of a United States citizen but I'd wager the same game is played out in other countries to some extent.

Once upon a time there was a world covered in sweet grass and there grazed hoards of sheep. The sheep naturally had ample provision and free reign of the world. Also in that world lived a sorcerer who had a taste for mutton. The sheep however, would scatter themselves to their own interests
so that the sorcerer had to range far to prey on the sheep investing a lot of energy. The sorcerer thought to himself to cast a spell on the sheep, telling them they were foxes and wolves and lions and tigers and all manner of creatures that ate meat and further that the sorcerer was the source of that meat. So the sheep all gathered round in the sorcerers cities and toiled there for the sorcerer in order to be fed from their own carcasses. The sheep all the while see their brethren being consumed in this way but they think to themselves, "today is not my day to die."

    Don't kid yourselves.

Heaven is a manner of perceiving the world, through light. We range freely amongst the stars as well the light of day. We don't have wings to fly, we soar through conception.

Meh... ideas should be more important than courtesies... sometimes I'm actually convinced that too many manners are part of the problem, as they belong in the same realm as protocol and etiquette, which is a huge part of the class division. I'm not arguing against taking turns and not pushing other people out of the way, but sometimes sparing people's feelings does more harm than good... and your point sometimes misses the mark.

And some people would find your rules pretty hard to follow. If you have nothing/very little, then it's easier to content yourself with nothing/very little than if you have a lot-- especially if you feel like you 'earned' it.

There's actually a huuuuge gap between the CEO who built himself up from nothing and the guy sitting in his apartment, content with his minimum wage job and selling herbs over the net.

The CEO didn't necessarily have things handed to him, so he wonders why everyone else isn't working to get what he has. He assumes it's because everyone else is lazy/inferior... if they're not willing to work for what he has, then why should he share his power/wealth with them? They didn't do anything to deserve it.

Meanwhile, the guy in his apartment thinks 'those rich bastards... they have so much and they won't give it to me', all the while he doesn't want to work for what the rich person has because he doesn't think he wants it anyway... but he still thinks that the rich person should share it with the poor. Unfortunately, the rich person who thinks everyone else is lazy/inferior has waayyy more influence and power than the person who thinks everyone is wonderful and deserves equal shares-- and in a way, both of these people want more-- either because they think they deserve it, or because they don't have it.

But there are also lesser divisions between people that are equally as important-- between doctors/lawyers and plumbers, for example... everyone feels entitled to what they have, and what they have is a part of their identity... it's how their peers will judge them, and how they know they belong in their particular 'niche'.

I don't know what my point is... maybe that simply giving everything up isn't really the answer either... people have to actually come to understand the value of sacrifice, as well as actually believing that all actions are equal... and the example has to be massive enough to shatter the class system-- or alternatively, it has to evolve naturally through increasingly liberal values.

Its at this point that I will make it clear... I spoke an idea, heywood attacked me personally... this is precisely the thing that I keep getting told I do and threatened with 'action'...
