I could theorize all day long about what it would be like to be the kind of rich you speak of, but I've never had very much money at all so I can't say what kind of happiness it would provide. I can however speak of the happiness I've found and gained through personal growth, the pursuit of truth, and expanding my ideas of what the universe, and everything in it is. Could I have more? Yes. Would I be happy with less? Yes. I'm 100% sure that there are very happy millionaires out there. But here's where the problem is...

Many of those people (most if not all) of the rich white minority at the top have made all of that money on the backs of all the little worker bees like you, myself, our families, our friends, and they don't give a damn or a second's thought about you or your well-being. This is why people have discussions like this one and vocal protests. Because we are being used, abused, pacified, and force fed so that those folks you speak of can enjoy their nice long yacht trips around the globe.

Maybe... but as far as I know, they don't see it that way. If you ask them, they got to where they are through a combination of luck and hard work.

It's so easy for us to come onto the Internet and say that giving away all your money is good-- especially when we've never had any. But if you were given a lot of money tomorrow after never having had any, would your first instinct REALLY be to give it to some slob in a trailer park who refuses to help himself, eats chili cheese dogs all the time, unquestioningly follows whatever he thinks Jesus believed (though he hasn't actually read the Bible), and blames immigrants for all of his problems?

Because really, that is who we are talking about. We aren't just talking about some helpless children in a far away land who never had a chance-- there's the odd poor person who has some psychological problems or actively chooses his lifestyle, but we're also talking about ugly, stupid adults who have given up on themselves and their families, who are inarticulate, violent, morbidly afraid of education, and actually bully and intimidate anyone who sounds like they might be more intelligent than they are.

Don't you think that maybe, just maybe... those people might just deserve to be exploited? Maybe exploitation is all that they're really good for? I'm just saying... you have to look at it from a different perspective. Because to a rich person, even a middle class person with a so-so degree from a so-so university seems at least a little bit like the person I just described.

So if you were a rich person and suddenly someone passed a law stating that everything had to be equally shared, don't you think that you would be terrified? Seriously... some moronic ex-jock with a big hairy belly, who can't even construct proper sentences, is suddenly going to have everything that you have??? You wouldn't find that unjust?

No... we can't just spontaneously do away with all power structures... we need to slowly wean ourselves off of them... and focus on making each other better, so that we can get ready for a better society in the future.

I was talking about you, and I, and our friends, and families, and the rest of society, regardless of age colour or religion.

No I do not. They aren't bad people. They are oppressed people. They have bad habits because they have never been shown that there is a better way. No one should ever be exploited for their beliefs, actions, or opinions. That's a very nihilistic approach. Hitler tried that, it didn't work. Everybody has undiscovered talents. No one is 'good for nothing.'

All people should be at least given the opportunity to learn, to be free, to be happy, and to do so in a caring, nurturing environment/society. What they do with it or where they go from there is up to them.

Will you make your children cut the lawn simply because you're too lazy to do it yourself?

Lunarverse... I feel like I've completely lost sight of my original point. I was never arguing against equal rights for all, or that money buys happiness-- just that the world is made up of a lot of different perspectives, and those perspectives are largely shaped by class.

Just as you seem to see the rich as these heartless monsters who want to exploit other people, they probably see you as self-defeating or lazy because you don't want to or can't do what is necessary to get what they have. My point wasn't that one is better than the other, but that there is mutual alienation.

My other point was that a total collapse will do more harm than good.

And my other point was that your taking responsibility for your own actions doesn't mean that other people will take responsibility for theirs.

And also, I think that the only way to really change things is through a silent, but very real revolution... ignoring the poor or middle class, and strictly targeting the upper classes-- by any means necessary.

If you could convince me that what was happening there was actually something besides a bunch of kids anxious to fuck some shit up, then I would agree with you. But to tell the truth, I haven't a clue what they were protesting-- on the news all that they showed was a bunch of whiny young people complaining that they were cold and the police weren't giving them food or blankets-- therefore, they were fascists.

That's alright. This is how interesting conversation seems to unfold itself.

Anyways, I'm not, and wasn't saying anyone is any better than anyone else. But the way things are being run is very bad. I completely understand what you are trying to say. I held the same notion when I was younger. But answer me this. Why should I want more for myself? You've mentioned multiple times that those rich white men could be asking themselves, "Why don't they try harder to get what I have?"
So, why should I want what they have? Why should I want millions of dollars. You've put the almighty dollar up on a huge pedestal. Why is a mass amount of money the ultimate end goal of life? It seems that it is very important to you.

Time for a metaphysics rant. Look at the table in front of you. It appears to be sturdy 4 legs, a top, solid. This is an illusion. that table is made up of tiny particles vibrating and bouncing off each other you can put your hands on the table and it feels like it is one solid piece that is staying in one place you feel no vibrations but that is an illusion.

Lets look at the human componant in this illusion. The first illusion that needs to be smashed is Objectivity. There is no such thing. We only understand concepts based on our own senses which are unreliable and our own experiences which color everything we see, do, think, or experience. We can only percieve at the rat which our neurons fire. How we see reality is like how a projector rapidly flashes still images giving the illusion of movement.

If you were to watch a particle excelerator in action you would see that our linear perception of time is false. At the same time you can see atoms destroying them selves and putting themselves back together.

I could go on this rant all day but I stand by my point that it is all an illusion and we get to choose how we interact with that illusion. Once I started to see that my whole perception of the world including "The Hippie Revolution" became altered.

    Peace Out,

To me this isn't deferring responsibility. Kind of expanding on the Metaphysics rant I just started. There are no passive observers. Even the act of being observed changes the outcome of what is being observed. You can plant a seed, a thought a kernal but you can't make it grow. But once you express a thought in public it starts a reaction. Someone will pick up on that thought and run with it. Maybe 2 people then like the old commercial said "And they tell 2 friends and they tell 2 friends." But each person who latches on and spreads adds their little bit and it evolves.

    Peace Out,

Time for a reasonable rant. If there is no object how can a table be made up of tiny particles.
Again if there is no object, who is perceiving.
I agree with you that linear time is a mental construct. The past as well as the future are artifacts of the present.
If all is illusion there is no you to have a point.
    You are real.

The particles make up the table. Our eyes tells us that it's a table. A single object. Our senses lie to us all the time.

The object and the perceiver are the same thing. Things can only perceive themselves. That is, I can only perceive what my universe consists of, because it and I are one in the same.

There is a me to have a point. The me that has the point is a thing that my senses have lied to me about. They've told me that "I" or "me" is separate from all other 'stuff'. Thus the ego is born. But we're not. The 'point' is a defence mechanism of the ego. Trying to maintain it's own singular existence. Trying to maintain it's own reality that is in itself a delusion of itself. A self-perpetuation lie in a sense.

I bet we can both sit on the table
Like I said, we may have misconceptions about the world, that does not mean that you are not real.
I agree with you that we can have a false sense of self, but again this does not speak to the reality of reality. That reality has aspects that are beyond our particular sensual range does not mean we are not part of reality. Seek and you shall find.

This sounds extremely passive to me. So basically, you've reduced the revolution to a few spoken words. Wow, you don't even have to leave your house... just type it on the internet or whisper it into the wind. And magically, everyone will agree with you, and no one will argue or dismiss you as ridiculous. Again, status determines who is listened to and who is ignored.

And to lunarverse-- I'm not expressing my own personal beliefs, I'm trying to explain why it is that the rich feel that they deserve their power and money. I personally am not obsessed with being rich... but that seems to be what we're talking about so I was trying to explain a perspective.

In many cases, it IS better for the rich to have it all, because they're used to having it and they know HOW to be rich and powerful. Honestly, would you rather have a mass of uneducated factory workers attempting to run the country? How long do you think it would be before they begged the rich to come back and help them?

The rich keep themselves rich because the poor can't do what they do. Leadership is basically irrelevant-- anyone can lead, but the educated and the able MUST be allowed to do what they know how to do, or it will be chaos.

Is reality itself a vanishing point? The universe subject to consciousness? If we grant infinity, then these questions shouldn't matter to us ultimately. We want eternity, and the very real trick is to not let eachother forget it! Who truly has more? Who the most? All who love possessing themselves possess all else by default. Illusion is illusion, nothing doesn't exist, everything is inherent, ....is the past painful? When can we stop caring?!

Having is not relative. The measure you give is the measure you get.
Possession is, regardless whether prized or demonic.
All actions are equal, there are no idle thoughts.

Giving and receiving are the same immediate truth.
All that occurs, occurs now or not at all.

The perception of linear cause and effect, past becomes future, is an illusion cause by the distance bridged during neural synapse.

Consequently we see only the past, an echo, and dream of the future while missing the immediate, which is the cause of doubt. To doubt is to be unsure of what you see.

In this state it is fair to say that we have not seen, one real thing. The story of the past is told in countless ways and changes with each version and dreams of the future are as many as there are heads. Looks like a chaotic soup. No wonder we become confused.

The thing is my way hasn't been passive. It has been about 15 years of looking at my own shit and healing from it. It has been observing and changing how I choose to interact with people both directly and inderectly. The thing is I can share my ideas no matter how crackpot some of them come across and I don't need credit for those ideas.

My part in said revolution is taking alot of time to help others. I work 7 days a week with disabled people. Saturday and Sunday I help 2 quadrapalegics get dressed and in their weelchairs so that they can live as close to a normal life as they can with their disabilities. Monday through Friday I work with an Autistic Child at an Inner City youth program in San Francisco. Alot of people make the stupid arguement "I would help others if I could only afford to do so." I help others and get paid to do so. Yes helping others is rewarding but so is sleeping indoors and eating.

Furthermore part of what I do is walking my talk. I hate to admit it but being a role model of sorts. Helping others, taking care of my own head, giving alternate perspectives when ones are needed. Attempting to straighten up differences between stereotype and reality.

I own the label Hippie but to me it isn't about alot of what others have told me it is about. Even though I smoke pot I do it after work and an eighth lasts me 2 months. I help others. I am seeking inner peace before I help the world to find outer peace (there is nothing like using hate and discontent to fight hate and discontent). I listen to the "right" music even though I listen to alot of music. I have long hair and wear the right clothes although I could have the slickest due and wear Armani and still be a Hippie.

I know what it is to be a Hippie and what it isn't. I choose love over fear and try to show others the same. I call bullshit when I see it and apologise when I'm wrong. I avoid fights when possible but am not afraid to fight when I have to. To me hese are all parts of being a Hippie and it is up to other individuals to find it for themselves. I'm here to give guidance to the younger ones if they feel that they need it. It is up to them to take my advice or leave it. That is the "Revolution". It isn't a grandiose gesture like toppling statues or breaking windows. It is about personal responsibility. It is looking at what you spend your money on and saying "I don't like what this company does so they don't get my business." Then encouraging others to do the same. For example I work at a youth program and all of the kids are in love with Justin Beiber. That video is on more screens than Twilight. Absolut Vodka has pulled some strings to advertise a Jay Z documentary before Justin Beiber videos on Youtube. I believe that target advertising vodka to pre teens is wrong and am advocating for a boycott. I've posted on this site in a couple of locations to let others know. It is a simple gesture like numerous others I make in a day. If more people would take these actions there would be a bloodless revolution.

Change happens by hitting others where it hurts them the most. In their pocketbook. That is revolution. Essentially strong arming others into Compassionate Capitalism. Capitalism in and of itself isn't wrong it is where the money flows from there. I'll use Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream as an example. When Ben and Jerrys was still owned by the 2 original guys most of their profits went to charitys cleaning up the environment, sending poor children to summer camp etc. When they sold the company part of the contract was that all of the deals that they made to give proceeds from various flavors still went to the charities that they had promiced proceeds to. Coca Cola on the other hand has been assassinating union organisers. Snapple has been giving millions of dollars a year to gun toting right to lifers etc. There is one example of a company to support and 2 not to. Here is your revolution. Information is only half of power. What you do with said information is the rest of power.

    Easy enough to say!

Thus relative to the end, if we may call possession an end.

That assertion begs investigation. In my experience, possession is only ever prized.
Is it actually possible to demonize it? How devilish is loss after all?

That no thought is idle only means that certain action is equal to it, be it beyond our comprehension or not. The equality of all action however...what is one to make of that whilst taking infinity in mind?

I disagree. For fun. Language is too funny a thing to fall to where we are decidedly, as opposed to deftly axiomatic. Giving and receiving are not the same immediate truth but belong to the immediacy of the same. All that occurs, occurs now. Or? What is not at all?

So again we must ask, what is the secret to holding ourselves to the immediate indefinitely? My contention: -------------but you already know what that is, don't you?

Actually going back to the OP I think that revolution is really the wrong word. The events you mention are really Paradigm Shifts. A revolution has a definate beginning like the Storming of the Bastille. The Renaissance had no definitive beginning or ending. It was just a set of beliefs and ideas put on the table and slowly evolving and shifting until we got to another historical period. The dates that we put on these things is arbitrary at best. It wasn't like on September 22, 1966 the Hippie Revolution began or on December 22, 2012 the New Hippie Revolution will begin. Don't worry about "The Revolution" wether it will happen or not live your life on your terms don't get caught up in acceptance or the movement. Fuck it that movement was just a continuation of at least 3 movements that came before it. All that is possible is to continue to evolve.

That no thought is idle means that any action is applicable to it. It also means that it is independant of the constraints of the time we try to put thoughts into when we give them action. What is infinity but a word? Thought is not dependant upon time. Action is. All action cannot be equal within the constraints of time. But when understanding that time is man made, constructed and fictional, (such as the notion of infinity) then all action must be equal, as it is not constrained by time and so one is no better or worse than the rest.

The 'same' you are refering to in the context of that reply is truth, as the reply is dependant upon the subject at hand. Therefore what you said is the same as what dope said. Just backwards. Not at all is nothing. Anything can't be nothing for if it were we wouldn't be aware of it. Human beings and life in general cannot be made aware of nothingness. Things can also not exist outside of our own comprehension. They cannot exist in the past or the future, as those ideas themselves only exist as ideas, and not time periods in which things can exist. Therefore all that occurs, occurs now.
