Humanity's mistake is the belief that "God" (whatever God is) inspires men to kill, steal, cheat and mislead one another. You are absolutely correct to reject that mistake. But the name, "God" does not necessarily mean only what the unobservant seem to think it means. According to the story, when Moses asks God to reveal himself, to tell his real name, God replies "I will be what I will be" (or "I am what I am" It depends on the variability of Hebrew/English translation). There is a variation of this idea in the Bhagavad Gita and in the Tao Te Ching. As I understand it, God is the absolutely primal, universal quality expressed through such seemingly varied "things" as Love, Truth, Consciousness, Creativity, Wisdom, Peace, Unity, Transcendence and so on. I realize it may take some effort to really think about this stuff, to get the sense of this, but once your mind begins to resonate and harmonize with this undefinable quality, you will certainly experience reality as something that simply is beyond anyone's expectations. All I know is there is always far more mystery than anyone is ready to comprehend. Peace and Love
humanities worst mistake is denying the connection between priorities and probabilities. claiming "god" to begin and end with what anyone or any several think they know about it, is somewhere in the running, and certainly a serious one, but it doesn't quite make the top of even that list. =^^= .../\...
Id have to agree with you. But when you think about it domestication, and civilization, really go hand in hand with religion. What better way to control people than creating a God that will damn you for your "sins"? What better way to breed a civilization... if you can make someone obey a god, you can make someone obey a government, employers, anything. Therein, domesticating our environment.
Have you ever heard of the madman who on a bright morning lighted a lantern and ran to the market-place calling out unceasingly: "I seek God! I seek God!" As there were many people standing about who did not believe in God, he caused a great deal of amusement. Why? is he lost? said one. Has he strayed away like a child? said another. Or does he keep himself hidden? Is he afraid of us? Has he taken a sea voyage? Has he emigrated? - the people cried out laughingly, all in a hubbub. The insane man jumped into their midst and transfixed them with his glances. "Where is God gone?" he called out. "I mean to tell you! We have killed him, you and I! We are all his murderers! But how have we done it? How were we able to drink up the sea? Who gave us the sponge to wipe away the whole horizon? What did we do when we loosened this earth from its sun? Whither does it now move? Whither do we move? Away from all suns? Do we not dash on unceasingly? Backwards, sideways, forwards, in all directions? Is there still an above and below? Do we not stray, as through infinite nothingness? Does not empty space breathe upon us? Has it not become colder? Does not night come on continually, darker and darker? Shall we not have to light lanterns in the morning? Do we not hear the noise of the grave-diggers who are burying God? Do we not smell the divine putrefaction? - for even Gods putrefy! God is dead! God remains dead! And we have killed him! How shall we console ourselves, the most murderous of all murderers? The holiest and the mightiest that the world has hitherto possessed, has bled to death under our knife - who will wipe the blood from us? With what water could we cleanse ourselves?
No to all of the above. Life exists, and it's a tough argument to reason from a barren, lifeless planet to a living planet, with DNA, multicellular life forms, and some creatures such as certain primates which are nearly intelligent. You might call God the tendency of certain organized molecular systems to maintain that organization or to increase it. Then again, you might call God a patriarchal, all powerful judge remarkably resembling a European King. You might even call God a certain person who walked the Earth in Judea some twenty centuries ago. Choose your poison. Personally, I'm not having any of it. But, just let me have chest pains in the middle of the night, and presto! Another Believer on your hands!
Civ came before Monotheism. Civ replaced Polytheistic Matriarchal religion with Monotheistic Patriarchal religion. No longer were our deities diverse guardians of the natural world (polytheistic paganism), now we have a heavenly "sheperd" who watches over his "flock" and does his best to keep the wolves (devils, satan, demons) at bay. And that "sheperd" is who we rely on for everything. domestication of spiritual belief. The belief in a "One True God", be it Yahweh or Allah is a product of civ(domestication), not the other way round. If you want to blame someone for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, then blame the first farmers and goat herders...
Brother Shane00X I could use another logical thread that ties the blame for Monotheism to the farmers and goat herders! Domestication? I need help here. Domestication thrives under paganism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc and the big bad boogie man in nowhere in sight. If I’m following your logic…if someone eats a strawberry for breakfast and then kills his neighbor then it’s the strawberry’s fault??? Farmers and goat herders….???? Domestication?
You didn't bother to read any of the links i provided, did you? here's another: http://www.alphabetvsgoddess.com/ Strawberry? I didnt blame the things being domesticated only the process of domestication. And it is a process. You bring up several religions that are both paganistic/polytheistic and civilized, but Which civilization has gone farther with the domestication of life and what faiths does it subscribe to? Western civ. Judaism(which used to be polytheistic) which lead to Christianity/Islam(xtianity = monotheistic but with a godhead, islam which is 100% monotheistic) which has lead to Humanism/Atheism(man possess possiblity of god-like status(ability to shape/create/destroy all that his eyes fall upon). of course it's not so linear though. Hellenistic philosophies have had a far greater impact on the progression than judaism itself. It's a social evolution. Eventually the faiths that you mentioned will either evolve, be destroyed, or be assimiliated as the process continues. In the meantime they will continue to be increasingly marginalized as globalization spreads the influence of Chrisitanity, Islam and Secular Humanism/Atheism. The "One True Way" belief systems will incorporate all others if given enough time. Please reread my posts before you ridicule me with strawberries.
Brother Shane99X, Bother? ....Ridicule? Oh no!...Sorry…Sorry…No, I was unaware. Obviously, if I had been aware of you views and attitudes toward debate I would not have posted an honest question... thanks for the heads up! I did reread your posts and I understand all the words but put them all together and I can’t make sense of it. It seems like an attempt to make a mountain out of a mole hill to me. But then again as you have so generously implied my ridiculous intellect is obviously no match for your immense intellectual prowess. Ridicule? Peace and love, Benther Dondat Evolution? “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.” Buddha
Shut the fuck up. 1. I never said anything about you're intellect or mine, so dont act like a wounded puppy. 2. "If I’m following your logic…if someone eats a strawberry for breakfast and then kills his neighbor then it’s the strawberry’s fault???" That is not an honest question. If you had read through the thread you would already know that question is absurd, so either you didnt read through the thread or you were being sarcastic, i assumed that you just hadn't read what i had already provided, now i see it was sarcasm. 3. My worldview is hardly set in stone, so dont go quoting some obscure quote from The Awakened One that you gleaned off of google. Either way, i answered your honest question with no ill will and I included a smiley face. And you came back with more sarcasm...
Brother Shane99X, Please, please calm down brother...have you taken any meds lately? …You have such a lyrical way of twisting words! Are these poetry books you've been reading? “Shut the fuck up” I bet you didn’t Google that one…probably your favorite retort to anyone who has a world view different from you? "sarcasm"? Now WHY would I even dream of being sarcastic in such level headed well balanced honest debate with you? Love thy neighbor! Peace and love! “The nature in human nature is Mother Nature and the mother of nature is the garden”
If you are asking if i use the phrase "Shut the fuck up" a lot. then the answer is yes. no i dont take meds, yes i read poetry, debate? you have not said anything worth debating! different world view than me? you dont even know what my world view is, you havent asked one single legit question. only sarcasm and sarcasm is aggravating, shows contempt but doesnt bother to hide it. i dont like sarcasm, it shows a general disrespect. Do you have a question that deals with the topic post or my response to it or not, guy? because so far it seems you're playing head games with me, and i dont like it. If you have something to say, then say it. If you have a question to ask, then ask it. Be straightforward and stop hiding behind sarcasm. And lay off the quotes, quotes are for those who have something to say, but feel they need someone famous to say it for them for it to carry weight.
