Hoping that folks can agree to disagree and not escalate :)

But then again I do not live in the high-pressure cauldron of the USA amidst all the hate and divisiveness.

    I don't understand. How so?
You do realize that statistical data that pertains to many individuals is factored into the probability of something happening and the data from all those individuals is not always the same, if it was the probability of something occurring would be 100 or 0%
Just because my particular situation doesn't support the major probability of something happening doesn't mean it wasn't factored into that probability.

Maybe if you read this paper you could point to the places where you think it was in error.
Investigating the Link Between Gun Possession and Gun Assault
I'd check out the Methods, Results, and Discussion sections, and then the conclusion.

Let me know what parts you disagree with and how they pertain to my situation.

The statistics are hand picked to get the desired outcome,

Methods. We enrolled 677 case participants that had been shot in an assault and 684 population-based control participants within Philadelphia, PA, from 2003 to 2006. We adjusted odds ratios for confounding variables

So when you agree with a statistic it was done correctly. When you disagree, the statistics are bias. I see.

You read two sentences from the conclusion abstract, not the following 12 pages of 4,229 words ( I checked with MSWord), a chart and 6 data tables, not to mention footnotes, from a paper published in the United States National Library of Medicine, the largest Medical library in the world in existence since 1879; and you're the expert on how the data was gathered and analyzed.

    Okay.

Wal-Mart and other stores leading the charge in not allowing customers to open carry, is a good thing. But I’ll tell you, that people aren’t abiding by it, and are still doing their own thing.

I was at Wal-Mart yesterday with my daughter, and as soon as we walked in, the detector that usually goes off if certain items aren’t scanned properly at the register, or just plain “being stolen”, well, it went off, and it was damn sure loud as fuck! I didn’t think much about it until I remembered that I heard that they recently changed the open carry policy for customers who shop at their store.

I was carrying concealed (legally) as I always do, but when that detector went off and after I figured out why, I expected to get approached by someone. Didn’t happen. I did, however, see several folks open carrying in the store, and after I saw that, I knew I was good then.

I agree with the policy Walmart put in place, but they need to enforce it.

I have read the information before.

For every publication of this type there is another one published with the same data tables and footnotes pushing the narrative in the opposite direction.

You appear to be anti-gun yet when you felt threatened you found comfort in having a gun at the ready if needed.

I see, for every fact there is an opposite and equal fact so facts mean nothing at all, nothing is true and whatever I think is right, because I can always rationalize any contradictory evidence away.

I never said I was anti gun...remember, I own guns.
What I am is anti stupidity.

I was going to move onto another point..but what's the use. I can't really see that anyone is interested in a rational discussion where we try and learn something....so I'll stop here.

And I do have to say that the more I participate in discussions about guns and the 2nd, the more I am leaning toward becoming anti gun.

If the perception is that one needs to be armed in order to travel to a certain space: I will just stay at home thank you.

A decision for you to make.

Will you be taking all your guns to the Sheriffs office for proper disposal ?

Let’s not get hostile towards one another about this topic. We can share viewpoints in good taste and as responsible adults.

Until firearms are completely prohibited by law in our country, and they manage to get them out of every criminal’s hands, I will continue to carry as a responsible gun owner, and within my legal rights.

If they can get those other things I mentioned, under control, I would be more than happy to put it away, and never carry it again. I honestly don’t feel any safer carrying one!
