That's exactly the take I've always had. Naturally, we're inclined to be attracted to a certain body type. I want a strong man who can protect me and produce strong, healthy children. I'm also attracted to men with plenty of body hair, a sign of maturity and masculinity. And it seems guys are attracted to women with wide hips, ample breasts, and that weigh less than themself. Why? Wide hips are ideal for childbearing, and large breasts are a sign of maturity and femeninity, and also a provider for offspring. And throughout time women have naturally been smaller and less muscular than men, so most men are just wired to think this way. There's a lot more factors...like if a boy grows up with an overweight mother he's more likely to be attracted to larger women, and how lots of women are attracted to men that resemble their fathers.

Ultimately, I think we have very little control over our attraction. I don't think it's shallow or arrogant to be attracted to certain body types..but I do think it would be so to automatically turn down people that don't fit your physical ideal, because love and fate work in weird ways, yada, yada..but I don't see any mention of being close-minded...just stating what you prefer.

Like you mentioned, I want a guy that is active and fit. I like to bike, hike, swim, take walks, etc...and if he just wants to sit on the couch watching TV all day we're not going to be very compatible. I also want a guy with energy and stamina in the bedroom, and obviously a physically fit man has the advantage there.

It's not just appearance that affects attraction for a healthy mate either. When I watch my boyfriend stuffing his face with McDonald's it's a definate turnoff..I can be horny as hell, but watching him put that double cheeseburger in his mouth kills the mood instantly.
