I can testify to that one, I play sousaphone in marching band. But I can also say concert band is just as difficult, but in a different way. We have a nine-tuplet in our music... sixty-fourth notes, at presto tempo.

it's not a sport at all...just because something makes you sweat and gives you a workout, doesn't mean it's a sport...marching band has no definite winners or losers therefore, it's not a sport...when you go workout, you can't win or lose but it makes you sweat...t's not a sport though...same thing applies to marching band.

Figure skating is an Olympic sport yet it's really more of a performing art. There is no clear winner in figure skating. The judging is subjective for the most part.

dude, marching band is a total sport

try harnessing an 60 pound set of tenor drums to youself...... I had to do that my freshman year ..... and plus, when you're doing a really big stride you practically have to break into a trot to get to the right yard line

any physical activity that give you muscle aches and makes you sweat is a sport

what the hell are you talking about? actually there are all kinds of marching band competitions. marching bands win and lose at these competitions so therefore it is a sport. I"m the percussion captain and trust me i've been doing this for 3 years, it's really hard marching for 4 hours a day in 100 degree heat during the summer carrying a 40-60 pound drum..... I say that marching band is the perfect mixture of sport and performing art

the 1988 blue devils and santa clara vangaurd kicked ass to, i was watching some marching competition dvds this week.

ALSO, one more point, i just found out that the national marching band competition is going to be televised on ESPN. If it's televised on ESPN, it's probably a sport

Definitely two of the best all time. The Bluedevils have rocked my world every time I've seen them. I beleive they were co-champs with Phantom in the mid-90s. p.s. these shows are best seen live. I get chills when fifty horns march towards me getting louder and louder until it rattles my eardrums.

...as for the ESPN comment, I just want to say FUCK ESPN for not renewing their NHL contract. I hereby boycott. Of course all I'll miss is "sports" like poker, dog training, and the lumberjack games.

ESPN must have some sort of link with the gambling industry to stoop so low as to define card games as a sport. :) I think Fox Sports is airing card games too now. They usually copy whatever ESPN does.

It's playing an instrument while walking. Only the unathletic retards would consider it a sport.

NO!! you are not fucking walking.....you are taking strides making formations and thinking about the changes in tempo and stuff like that. You have to be pretty athletic to get some of the stuff done..... dude, you are a fucking loser and that's all i have to say.....

i would say no. im in it because its required. it is hard though. and i can march or play but its really hard to put them together. if you get off step its hard to get back on, you have to keep an eye on the drum major to see if anythings coming up and you have to keep checking to see if your still in a straight line. luckly our band doesnt do a whole lot of marching.
