nice way to describe it dave. i definitely see where you're coming from. thanks for making me a little wiser as well.
They really are synonymous. The universe is made of information. The differences lie in the uses men put to it. Religion can be a method for achieving some measure of transcendental awareness as well as enforcing the status quo. Medical science can lend a measure of comfort to our lives just as psychological sciences can sell us things that we do not need.
there is definitly a movement, albeit mostly an online one, that is pro science and in particular anti-religion (anti-Christianity in reality). People can put faith that science knows best, that through proper adhesion to the scientific principal that good things shall happen. It's not a hard and fast belief, neither is a lot of religious beliefs. But the devotion to fact (often dated and over opinionated) is comparable to religious belief.
Science is a religion with its own series of beliefs like any other religion. The big bang theory can be compared to any other story of creation in religion.
The idea itself is comparable, but any decent scientist realizes it's just a theory. Anyone who says the big bang theory is definitely true is full of shit.
