ok, i will agree that when you deny something you are acknowledging that someone else believes it, but that still doesn't make it so/real.

I deny the beliefs of scientology, So i realize there are people that believe such BS, but that doesn't mean it isn't made up.

I'm not in any way religious, but I believe suicide is definitely the wrong path for me and would not do it no matter how bad my life got

When asking whether a dog has or has not the nature of Buddha, one receives the reply "mu". Neither yes nor no, but "not", or "unask the question". This is what BBAD is saying; if you say yes to "sin", then it is a belief you hold and cling to, and if you say no to "sin", it is a belief you hold and cling to, and say "no" to. Just don't "sin", and there is problem of "sinning".

If you believe there is a God that gave you life and sits in judgement above, then yes I would say its probably a sin. Just the fact that you were given a gift and you throw it away makes that sinful.

If you believe that human life is completely inconsequential to everything that has and will ever exist, then I don't see how it could possibly be a sin.

Personally I believe life to be a gift even though I think human life is inconsequential. I wouldn't label suicide a sin, because I don't believe in sin, but I think it is a bit like flushing the best gift you'll ever receive right down the toilet.

I also don't think, aside from the family and friends you'll leave behind to mourn you, that there is much consequence to this.

I have no idea what you said but figued out a better to say what I meant>>>its like an insane person not being held criminally liable for murder because they didnt understand it was murder..

Haha, I will answer later on tonight, and maybe ask more.

I thought hipforums was down! And it happened to me the same day the net neutrality stuff was getting big, lots of articles in the news the last few days. Thank God it was just PeerBlock, HTTP enabled now :D

Going at it from a Judeo-Christian point of view, yeah, suicide is one of the biggest sins you can commit. Personally, I see it as a perfectly valid choice, no strings attached. I don't care if people are healthy, terminally ill, whatever, I think if they want to kill themselves they should be allowed to, so long as they don't scar other people. And by scar others, I mean no suicide by cop/train/whatever poor schmuck you trick into killing you for yourself. It'll definitely do shit to someone psychologically. Still, I'm a misanthrope, so suicides are a net gain in my book.

It's something I've been close to myself a number of times, so I can understand what it's like to have that feeling. And growing up I had two good friends kill themselves, one by hanging himself and the other by intensionally OD'ing while robo-tripping, which has to be the least pleasant way to go I could imagine. I've seen both sides of things, and I still say to people if they really want to, they should do it. Just make sure that's what you really want, because there's no undoing it. I've watched people try it before, and I haven't stopped them. I don't feel as if it's any of my business. Maybe I'm callous, maybe I'm a bad person, but I've grown up to view suicide as something that people just do sometimes, and it's their choice alone to make. If someone asks me if they should, I'll try and cover every reason I can think up for why they shouldn't, but if none of those do it for them, I won't stop them. I haven't done it myself mostly because I worry that I'll simply wind up speeding my arrival at some new hell of a world, worse than this one. As far as I'm concerned, without the arts, humans have no redeeming qualities. I'm just killing time reading and learning until I finally die. Man, that wound a becoming lot more depressing than I originally meant to go.

Samson was a martyr... an old testamit equivalent to a suicide bomber, if you will. He did the lords bidding by killing the baddies (who god had decided where going to be bad... poor fellas) and getting rid of himself when he was blinded and going to die anyway.

    And, remember masada?

I mean, those are all just chapters in history's most influential novel, but if we're discussing within it's world....

I hope so, heaven seems so camp. I'd rather watch Metallica for an eternity, than learn the dance steps to Les Mis with Baptist John.

lol exactly. I've always said that if heaven and hell do exist, i would rather end up in hell. Hell seems like it would be one hell of a party, while I picture heaven as a really boring place with a bunch of freaky blond women playing church music on their harps. No thanks. I'll see you guys in hell!

I think that's pretty harsh to accuse poor old Samson of suicide! The simple fact is that he was not a quitter. There are a lot of things he may have been: a body builder, a communist, a quitter and an insurgent, but he was NOT a cheese eating surrender monkey. I think that mostly covers it.

You just said he was and was not a quitter.....

But I don't think suacide was on his mind, it was more to kill as many of those damned ever-present philistine douchebags as he could, the consequences to him be damned.

Just because you might consider yourself fantastic and on top of the world.. I don't think you can say that suicide is just for the weak.

Depression is a real mental situation, and when it goes untreated in combination with various external forces can lead to people not being able to see any other way out.

I've had a friend commit suicide - he was one of the strongest people I know, both mentally and physically. It was his decision to end life, and he'd been battling a severe depression for about 3 years before he did commit suicide.

I'm not trying to be an asshole towards you, just saying that most often people who commit suicide aren't the local emo kids on the block who tell you they're going to commit suicide every day.
Most often it's the people who don't say a thing, going on day to day with severe depression, trying to learn how to cope.

Suicide isn't always evil. If you have a terminal disease and the only thing you have to look forward to is pain and loss of your dignity I think it is warranted. If you're just sad, I think it is rather evil not because some patriarchal god says so but because it is a cop out and invariably you terribly wound the people that love you. I've had a suicide in my family, and I still haven't totally forgiven that person for the pain they put their parents through. The fucked up thing was that it was totally unnecessary, had the person in question talked to us we could have helped him easily through the problems he felt at the time were insurmountable.

Remember, just because you can't see anyway out doesn't mean other people who are both looking in from the outside and possibly might have more resources and experience than you and are willing to help.

Disclaimer: I am no doctor, but I think the best cure for depression is not Prozac or Lexapro it is getting laid every day. That is one reason why I detest Christianity, Catholicism specifically. Sex is pleasurable. And pleasurable things are good for you.

In short, if you're feeling depressed. Find someone to love on you. Just cuddles and snuggles work wonders. We're social animals.

yeah there's nothing that pisses me off more than those dumb chicks (not trying to generalize or anything) that will always tell me "I JUST DON'T SEE ANY POINT ANYMORE, THERE'S NO POINT IN LIVING" everyday just for attention - idiots like that are offensive to people who are actually suicidal.
