Tree planting is an excellent idea, although I think hemp might be quicker and perhaps more effective and could save a great deal of standing forests. Maybe the goverment might even get smart and release all the poor souls locked up for pot offenses and use the money saved to help the environment, we can hope anyway. As for population I can remember when I was in grade school in the late fifties early sixties it was talked about in some class or other. Then of course the high and mighty Catholic Church among others was and is against any type of birth control devises or pills, got to have more folks to scare into putting money in the collection plate. As for the heads of goverment and big business it just could be they believe the environment is so shot that the momentum of the destructive forces are so great that they figure just let it go and lets have a good time, while others suffer. If I remember right Hindu thinking has us in the Kali-Yuga which is the 3rd time period of a 3 part cycle the Kali-Yuga being the time when everything falls apart before starting over again as something akin to an Earthly paradise type scene. I'm thinking the whole things maybe like a 3 reel movie and we're in the part right now where the Rainbow Family first comes in and starts to play an increasing role, just like the good rainbows down south are doing right now.

This blame game will get you nowhere, because the consumer (read: you and me) are just as guilty, because we buy what they sell, thus empowering them. yes, they poison the world with their refineries, factories and clearcuts, but we buy their oil, TVs and paper. We pollute equally with our cars.

They only pollute because we accept it. If the consumers were honestly adamant about no pollution, it would quickly stop (and I don't mean because of gov't regulations, which is more of a smokescreen to make us think all is well). Plain old "market forces" would solve this, but we're all too addicted to cars and cheap consumer goods. We say we want no pollution, but we aren't willing to make any sacrifices.

Greedy, I think not, first of all I believe the war in Iraq may have not been for the same reasons bush stated (that they caused sept. 11) but I believe removing Suddam Hussien was the greatest thing. First off he is a COMMUNIST, he ruled all, and by this I mean that if a a person stood up against his regime he would torture that person too death then kill their familys, come on do some research. Secondly did you know he used his OWN nations people to test some chemical warfare weapons, what kind of person could do that, and while he's been on trial he admitted to have his guards go out and beat or kill civilians, and he video taped it to watch for his veiwing pleasure over a glass of scotch... too me getting suddam hussien out of his office was a great thing, obviously there is an evil power over their too, random suicide bombers killing mass numbers of their own people, and i believe if they can't stop it themselves i'd wanna help.......

Now about our mother earth, I do believe that eventually our earth will be pounded by storms, caused by global warming, which causes jets streams to change becuase of the warmer air, but i don't believe that will happen for quite a while, BUT THAT DOESN"T MEAN WE CANT STOP IT NOW, we have always been pounded by harsh hurricanes, This season it was actually fewer hurricanes than in the past, we just had some bad luck for the reason that a CATAGORY 5 hurricane hit New Orleans and now a Catagory 4 hurricane, that will hit New Orleans, they have been predicting for something like this to happen over in New Orleans for a while, it was just matter of time, the luck of the draw I guess you could say, New Orleans is like a Huge BOWL and the hurricanes just hit it in the right spot, plus the engineers weren't thinking ahead, they had planned for this to happen and put pumps in the city to remove water Except they put them underground and they got flooded and they shorted out......Idiots.

"hit" new orleans, just had lots of rain in the feeder bands. It only took 6 inches
of rain to flood NO again, just wanted to correct you on that part.

Thank you very much heron, i am always open to corrections..i was wrong it was a category five up till it reached the shore than changed to 4..I am no meteoroligist but do have a thoery based on what i was told.....

Well i wasn't travel into the conversation anyfurther but heres the conclusion on how feel about the war. I as said I believe it was a good thing to get Suddam Hussien out of power, but I believe this war should have ended way long ago. This war has lingered on far way too long, too many men have died....they should have pulled out. Now things are bieng done for all the wrong reasons, they forgot why the real war happened....

The real reason for the war was because we were told Saddam had WMD's. We have not found any or much of a trace of any. They also said Saddam was connected to 9-11, which he wasn't...it was a ploy to take advantage of our fear as a nation. Only later, once the bombing started, did they change the story to "liberating the Iraqis." How ever noble a cause that might be, it wouldn't have been, and wasn't, enough of a reason to go to war; the american public just doesn't find that an important enough reason to sacrifice OUR young men and women. It's a nice thing but believe me, no one in this administration gives a shit about Iraqis or about dictatorships (we're allied with the Saudis, and support tons of other dictators) and was not the initial reason nor the real reason. The real reason has to do with oil reserves, dollar hegemony in the oil market, and greed...and perhaps a family grudge.

I posted that last comment and thought 'rude and pompous' but then i thought 'I wonder how he would reply'

I was just thinking nobody could hold all those opinions in one go.. after reading a lot of what is posted within these forums and in the wider media outlets.. never mind govermental sources [filled with golden bullshit i suppose ?].

If much of what you read on these forums strikes you as bullshit..this is where my point ends.

All that is [below] could be bullshit [you must have read it]..but how can you entertain so many 'odd' opinions ..

Acting under Chapter VII of the charter of the United Nations,

Decides that Iraq has failed to take the final opportunity afforded to it in resolution 1441 (2002).

Decides to remain seized of the matter.

If much of what you read on these forums [especialy within this post :p ]strikes you as bullshit..this is where my point ends.

THE EARTH IS PISSED AND IS STRIKING BACK!!!!!!!!!11111111111 oh noez

Yeah, I heard the water in the ocean is heating up from global warming and is making the hurricanes more intense and stuff. So yeah, it all comes back to global warming pretty much.

As for the Christian theory of apocalypse and living with animals, well, before Adam and Eve pissed off god, we all lived in Eden and the lion layed down with the lamb. So I'm presuming we didn't kill and eat animals then, if animals weren't eating other animals :D

Just like we shouldn't have interfered with the Holocaust right....yes millions of INNOCENT jews were being killed....but what does that matter their thousands of miles away from us so why should I care.

That is basically what I am hearing from you, oh and yes back in the day for that matter I would've enlisted, if millions of people are being killed, obviously I would, and the people back then cared for other people because millions had enlisted, because they did enlist..knowing death was in their favor......I don't believe this is a war is not for oil, we have so much oil up in Alaska that we could outpower the saudi's.....but greepeace is restricting us to open many of the wells we have their, (which i tend to almost agree on, in favor of our enviroment, or look at all the oil there is in Antarctica, that triples the amount in iraq.

IF WE REALLY WANTED TO HAVE A WAR FOR OIL IT WOULD'VE BEEN A WAR WITH SAUDI ARABIA, they are the ones who control and dominate the oil trade. Over 2/3rds of all gas companies are owned by the Saudi Arabians, you want to know why the SAUDIES have alot of money, their oil, and the ways they control oil
-as i said we should've started a war with Saudi Arabia, if it was for oil because it was confirmed that 4 of the 6 plane Hijackers were part of the taliban out of Saudi Arabia, the other two were unknown because there bodies disenagrated in the crash....

-And just to get back to the HURRICANE, that also made prices skyrocket before the hurricanes oil pumps were working at 99.9 percent capacity, and when Kattrina hit it went crashing down to 75 percent~why~ because many oil pump facilitys were either damaged or destroyed, if you've seen pictures of what happened to these massive sea oil pumps, they broke away from the harbor and crashed into bridges and amongst other things
-And once the hurricane hit gas store owners RAISED their prices, on the assumption that their would be a OIL SHORTAGE, yes they gouged their prices from three dollars a gallon to 6.00$ a gallon someplaces even 7.00$ a gallon, you want to know what the goverment is doing to these owners- CAN YOU SAY FEDRALL LAWSUIT

-Even in New Jersey they were changing their prices three times a day, going from 3.00 to 5.00 to 6.00 just because they though hurricane Rita would cause oil shortages thats also called price gouging and what is the Goverment doin----say it FEDRAL LAWSUIT, because that is way unfair the consuming public and against the law......

RE: I have two words for you - Global Warming. What a shame the US spent the last 10 years trying to bad-mouth it, and to convince everyone else it didn't exist.

    Oh my God.

Listen people. Global Warming is something that the hysterics are now screaming from the rooftops. Can I remind you that twenty years ago the doomsayers were bleating we were gonna freeze to death?

    School is now in session.

We're now measuring temperature via satellite - which is pointing out that IF the world is getting warmer, then it's doing so at a pretty infinitesimal rate. Terrestrial thermometers get interference from nearby areas, inhabited areas etc. Satellite ones are VERY accurate and unbiased. May I remind you that David "Sacred Balance of Nature" Suzuki made the public and dumbass comment that it's a lot warmer in Windsor now than when he was a kid --- and lo and behold someone drug up the temperature records from those years and they showed him to be WRONG?

Is weather changing? Sure it is. It always has done and always will. The earth got a lot colder during the Middle Ages... at one point the Vikings were farming in Greenland. Can't do that now, still. Was George Bush president THEN, too?

May I remind you that we're all coming OUT of an ice age?

Meterologists can't predict weather with any degree of certainty beyond three days, but apparently with computer modelling they've shown that Arizona will catch fire in 2014?

Now that we're through with the science questions:

OK, let's assume that CO2 really IS a problem.

The solution would be an immediate end to CO2 production. However, that's NOT what has EVER been proposed. Europe gets a pass for having got rid of coal in the 1980s. China and India are exempt - apparently CO2 from those folks is more PC CO2 and therefore doesn't hurt mother Gaia - only whitefolks CO2 is evil. *rolls eyes* Kyoto was about economically hamstringing the United States, and about nothing else.
If they'd signed Kyoto that whooshing sound would have been all the jobs and money heading into China. Which was the original intent.

Many countries are now saying they're not gonna make their targets no matter what. Canada was hoping for exemptions based on all its trees. And internally, it's making sure the CO2 taxes are ONLY being levied against the rich but vote-poor West and NOT the industries in the poorer but vote-rich East.

    It's all a COMPLETE CON.

Sure the weather is changing. More recent questions are being asked about potential natural sun cycles. But then again, blaming George Bush for hurricanes is much more fun.

The Atlantic Ocean has raised by one degree. Might not seem like much, but its a lot. And Ill tell you why the hurricanes have been so bad recently...warmth FUELS them. As soon as they enter the Gulf of Mexico it is all over for the people living on the coast. Trust me, Im one of them. The Gulf is even warmer than the Atlantic. We just try to pay attention to where the hurricanes are going to hit so we can scramble to get ready in time to not get ourselves killed.

The more the seas warm the worse the hurricanes are going to get. Luckily with Rita she got too big too fast and started collasping in on herself before she made landfall. We cant count on that happening every time.

Im afraid for future generations. Global warming IS a problem, even if its by one degree per year...or even per decade. THe one degree change in the Atlantic has made the difference between Cat. 1 and 2 hurricanes being the norm a few years ago, to Cat. 3 and 4 hurricanes being the norm as far as last year and this year goes. Ive lived near the coast for 10 years now, and it is clear that the weather situation for people down here is bad. Many people are selling their homes. I, for one, will probably end up moving to northern Michigan...cold, but away from all this mess.

Im not trying to argue with anyone. I am simply stating what I know from experience. The climate is changing, and we need to be ready to adapt...or like every other organism that cant adapt...die. Live in harmony with Mother Earth, and overheating our planet will no longer be a problem.

Gosh, I had no idea the temperatures of the oceans NEVER fluctuated.

Silly me, if they went up a degree, it MUST be because of George Bush. If they subsequently go DOWN a degree next year will that be his fault too?

nahh... that'll be the cause/fault of the middle class liberals.
What is up with the GoM tho? lover levels so more heating? It has always been out of cooling currents like the Atlantic and Pacific have. dunno.

Ok, sorry KC, he's not getting ignored.
    I'm also not challenging him.
IG, I had a Mother earth News from 79-80 (I forget which) that was talking about global cooling. While I do believe the ambient temps are increasing, and that the rate is artificial, the fact of a gradual warming was supposed to happen.

and Georgie should take the fall for his questionable appointees. Step up and lead, man.
