Is there any place for conspiracy theory in political debate?

And how is the interjection of conspiracy into a conversation looked upon there? *cheeky grin*

Modding isn't easy. I've modded on many Sim sites, and while it's "only a game", those people are dead serious about what they expect from the site and from the mods in the way of diplomacy, information and censorship of posts.

As a reader and member of these forums, I personally don't mind the conspiracy aspect being brought into political discussions. They quite go hand in hand more often than not. Let people make use of the ignore tool if they must.

 

If anything, we can always create our own forum and take free speech more seriously.

I can help organize if anything happens and I could maybe pay for some web hosting costs.

 

Thread was started because someone had their dukes up and wanted to spar.

Conspiracies and politics go hand in hand. Where do we draw the line? Why do some people feel so threatened by the opinions of others that they feel the need to censor? I DO know how to ignore someone if I so choose.

I hang around here quite often. I really don't see a problem with "conspiracy theorists" hijacking threads. I just see widely differing opinions being discussed, sometimes in a disagreeable fashion. I wonder why some people get SO upset over opinions that differ from theirs? It's not like it's an earth shattering problem. Nobody is gonna change MY opinion, no matter HOW badly they complain. I find debate entertaining... That's why I'm here.

Now the question is, do the moderators of this forum believe in the concept of DEMOCRACY they so often espouse?

If the so-called "conspiracy theorists" who frequent this forum are causing such a disruption, well then, according to whom exactly?

Not if they don't insult my character and lob personal attacks at me. THAT is what derails threads and creates a disruption. And I never complained about it, if you can recall. I contacted the person in question by PM and asked them to stop. If I was "complaining" about it, then I would have made it everyone's business. I didn't.

The same thing most people would consider a personal attack. Insults directed at a particular person for no reason other than to put that person down. It's not rocket science. But frankly, I am not even going to make an issue of it because people like this are simply better off ignored.

Yes, there is a purpose moderators serve. They don't serve to delete and remove threads because they don't like what a particular person is saying.

Also, I do not care about people attacking me. It's when it becomes a regular occurrence that it's a distraction.

You accused Balbus the other day of deleting threads. This is after I had told you that I moved one of your threads into the Conspiracy Forum.

Also, I fail to see why you counted heads as if people were posting their views with their votes here on the matter.

You don't even believe in voting, nor do you believe in democratic systems. So don't come here and accuse people of not being champions of democracy.

I never made an issue of people attacking me. You, however, are. I never made a single thread about this. I contacted Hiptastic telling him to tone down his act as it was becoming an annoyance, not only to myself but others as well. He then e-mailed you and made you involved in what was originally a personal matter between him and myself.

I never attacked you in this thread. Attacking someone deals with continually hijacking threads with insults, calling people "idiots" and "conspiracy loons." But really, I could not care less about that. I am not a politically correct pantywaist. It's only words on an internet message board. I can deal with idiots saying shit about me. It's the frequency with which it was occurring that made it very difficult to carry on an intelligent discussion.

Ok let’s review the arguments against conspiracy theory posts being moved to the Conspiracy forum or deleted from the Politics forum.

It has been argued that there is no difference between spreading conspiracy theory and debating real and rational politic issues.

The problem is that I’ve already set out exactly why that isn’t true – in fact it is very easy to distinguish between genuine political debate and conspiracy theory propaganda. And the thing is that no one has yet refuted that argument they’re either ignoring it or are saying that the Politics forum just has to put up with their conspiracy theory evangelising.

And the other argument of conspiracy theory seems to be…well there doesn’t seem to be another rational argument. They’re just saying they want to propagate conspiracy theory outside of the conspiracy theory forum because they want to. And why…well again the only reason seems to be that they want the right to curtail genuine political debate by saying everything is connected to conspiracy theory.

Basically the conspiracy supporters are not putting up any rational arguments against the imposing of long standing forum guidelines.

As to some of the CT’s threat of going off and setting up another forum to talk about their conspiracy theory view of the world well that is exactly why the Conspiracy forum was set up in the first place, so I’d say to them they have a place already why not use it?

 

well ok then. from now on so i wont have to worry about whether or not LORD BALBUS will consider any of my remarks "conspiratorial" i will post anything political in the conspiracy forum..

then when its questioned why so many political threads are in conspiracy i will refer them back to this thread..

something tells me most posters will follow..
