Tourist or Take-Away owner just a greasy spoon run by a white guy. Talking of Eastenders, It is produced pretty much by gay people (honest )...writers directors, story editors. How many gay people? Erm, 1.
I disagree with most of that. Very rarely do you have a black protagonist. And having someone on par with the protagonist doesn't happen much, especially in sit com's. It's against the formula. However, I do agree with a disproportionate mix. This states a third Hispanic, and I don't see that on TV even a little bit, while there are a plethora of blacks. Then again, I don't watch TV.
It does show. I always thought it was produced by middle class suits...but they are a bunch of working class gay liberals with a mother complex. I'd like a few lesbians on the show 3 would be great.
True. not many protagonist's. Right now I can only think of CSI (original.) Plent of side-kicks and supporting characters, though. That is what I meant. It be a tad impossible to represent particular states...but generally speaking I'd agree with the over reliance on using too many black faces and not enough others. The asian (India)0 characters seem to be coming out of the wood work now, over here. Not many muslim asians, though. I watch too much, obviously.
You also have to remember that 99% of the sitcoms aren't shot in this state. To the OP, I can see your point. Compared to other minorities blacks do have an overwheming amount of faces on tv(US), especially considering the growing hispanic and asian population in america. Not to say that those "groups" don't have talent, it's just that race has a bit to do with the casting process unfortunately (US). Though I see your point, I think the way you wrote it was a bit racist. What's the problem, you can't have chocolate with out your cinnamon and caramel?! (Joshin!) My $.02
I don't let anyone go on my tv - whatever nationalities they are. The support is made of glass - it's a flatscreen - I mean - I don't think it could handle the weight. ...and what are you saying, you bastard - ethnic people are fatter than other people???
I don't view any of the newer shows because most are rubbish, but from what I've seen blacks are OVERrepresented nowadays on US tv etc. Also when I last viewed CNN the majority of their people that broadcast the "so-called" news are black-that was not the case 10 years ago.
Of course I've considered that. What I'm saying is that television isn't an accurate portrayal of what I personally see in many ways. Most television shows are shot in California, a state with a substantial Hispanic population. I don't really see them very present on TV.
I don't bring talent into it. Talent is a little too subjective, imo. I didn't mean to come across as being racist...I'm of colour myself (mixed race)...so i'd hate to think I come across as racist. Not the intention. Perhaps I should have explained my point from the get go rather than as we go along. The thought came to me when I was looking through some literature where I work. There seemed to be way more ethnic people represented than was proportionate. But, we do have nearly a 50-50 mix of indigenous peoples to ethnic people, where I live. Perhaps that has skewed my views and their literature. I did think about how it reflected on TV too...and thought: "My god there are a lot of ethnic people on TV" (considering the UK is 96-7% white.) it does sound racist, but it isn't meant to be. To certain ears I don't think I could have not made this thread seem racist. Cheers.
I'll add I don't care what someones background is--if they are good actors or good at what they do etc. However it's absurd and an insult to put someone on a tv show, movie,CNN etc. just because they are of a certain race. It's politically correct nonsense. And this is coming from a guy(me) who ranks Sidney Poitier as one of my all time favorite actors.
You don't sound dumb, you sound stupid.Read my second post.It seems it's so easy to imply someone is a racist these days if one disagrees with that person.Sorry but that is also nonsense.
i didn't read this thread.. for me.. no! i love seeing people of all different shades of brown on tv. i'ma people watcher by nature.. so it fills that void.
True odon it is a tricky subject and I'll add a controversial subject especially when trying to address it with typed words.I just give my honest opinions-and it's never my intention to offend anyone.I'll also add the point of discussing a subject hopefully is to have honest and have civil discourse. You asked a very good question.:cheers2:
There's no Indians in Eastenders. Actually, I'm trying to think of a Brit programme that I like with an Indian in it and I can't. Maybe I secretly hate India?
