Just heard on the news that, each day, there will be a four-hour "cease fire" (Biden, from what I heard, finally got Israel to agree to this much) to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, and civilians to cross over into Egypt to safety, and, hopefully, some Hamas hostages also being released.

    Meanwhile, Gaza is getting pounded.

It will be interesting to see what transpires next.

If only we could go back a few months............

Happy Veterans Day everyone. I have some things I want to say, but I don't want it to come across as tone deaf. Yesterday, by reflex I kept remembering that it was going to be Veterans Day. What I found myself remembering as if by muscle memory was standing strong with my back straight and a look of bravery on my face with no hint of intimidation and no trace of cowardice of any kind. And today there was an article discussing veterans' struggles not being the characteristic that defines them. Let's thank them for their service in the most informed way possible.

I noticed our media coverage with a 'hopelessness' spin...

I want to scream! The Palestine and the Israel of today are not those of yesteryear!

What has become very clear to me is that these matters cannot be settled in battle. Negotiation, compromise, diplomacy, and patience especially in the face of fearsome vehement anger are paramount!

The first thing to solve for is Hamas. Replacing Hamas leadership requires assurance from some other potential leadership of protection and security. How do you go about offering that?

What is problematic is there have been abuses. Those things can stop, and accountability can take their place.

We in America used to have slavery, and with that racial prejudice, bigotry, and racism. We have made slow progress, and as the issue has become more visible, accountability (if not for slavery perhaps a little bit for African Americans, their families, and in their places of work, school, and to some extent the legal environment; though there is still room to improve) becomes more common.

What complicates the 'human rights' issue is an ideological divide stemming from differing belief systems.

I think what has to happen is for Israel as a state to solve this problem like an equation, factoring out the parts that make this so difficult.

It poses a challenge for those who wish for a very orthodox conservative statehood. With both sides grounded in piety and devotion to differing ideologies and belief systems, there arises a sense that the war must continue until one side eliminates the other.

We must dismiss the thinking that one cannot exist with the other intact! But to have this compromise there is a loss in terms of the proverbial 'status' of one's devotion to their belief system.

It is my belief that both sides will flourish though in the following absence of carnage.

I don't live in Israel though. I haven't been there, and though I heard good things about Haifa and Tel Aviv I don't presume to know much.

Without knowing much, I would just have to suggest that somehow the territory should be shared. One example I can think of was one of a place of worship in Israel, that I knew as Al-Aqsa Mosque. My understanding was that it is one of the most holy places for Muslims, but it is located within or near a holy place for followers of Judaism, the Western Wall and the Temple Mount. Maybe that could be used as symbolic of sacrifice and sharing.

These are the holiest of places in their religions. It would be a little like sacrificing the Vatican, or sharing your church being Baptist or Lutheran or Catholic or Methodist with another faith, and one you'd recently been at war with.

And anyone reading this can see the problem. For both religions it seems too great a compromise. That is the nature of the dilemma.

I don't presume to understand, nor do I know enough to offer a solution, but perhaps a neutral party could be employed by the state to oversight of Temple Mount, Western Wall, and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

I don't mean to be insulting. I feel like it's a little insulting that I'm suggesting or proposing something and I'm not Israeli or Palestinian.

Truly frightening as to how, over a month ago, this bloody war started because of a surprise and despicable, barbaric attack by Hamas butchers.

Today, Gaza is in ruins, thousands are dead, and there have been no cries of "victory".

Why must innocent Palestinians suffer for the actions of blood-thirst terrorists?

There have been countless (often violent) pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli rallies and protests across the globe; many innocent Palestinians and Jews are now being targeted, and anti-Jewish hatred is soaring out of control.

New York has been getting hammered.

Cowardly, demented Hamas butchers are, of course, at the very core of this bloody and highly-destructive war, a war that affects us all.

    When will it end?

    Where will it end"

    When will cooler heads prevail?

I only wish I could answer even one of these questions..............

One cannot help but wonder if Israel had been planning some sort of an attack on Gaza/Palestine for some time now, and the sickening Hamas butchering/kidnapping was but an excuse to carry this out.

All I know is, far too many innocent Palestinians have been killed, and Jews around the world are living in fear.

It's all so sickening and senseless........nobody is winning here, least of all the innocent civilians being killed by the hundreds with each passing day.............

Why Christopher Christie the former New Jersey governor traveled to Israel? Does he love the Israeli people? Does he care about the suffered Jowish in recent war? Absolutely no, he cares about the Jowish voters for the coming president election in America! Otherwise, he doesn't care what happened and what will happen next for them.
That's a dirty political game, so the both Israeli and Palestinian should be more careful about their lives.

In ANY conflict, opposing political factions can often make for a very volatile mix.

In recent years, politics (including debates) has degenerated into a seething morass of mud-slinging, childish name-calling, and bullying, as well as showcasing other less-than-mature behavior.

Now, a very important and timely question:

WHO would American Jews and Palestinian Americans want to see in the White House, in 2025?

WHO would/could they trust to take their best interest to heart?

Truthfully, I, myself, would not even attempt to answer this question.........

Just heard on "World News Tonight"* with David Muir (ABC) that intelligence has now confirmed that Hamas is using the wounded and babies as human shields, conducting their sinister acts under a children's hospital.

The US and Israel are both in agreement with this latest intelligence report.

    Sickening, sad, despicable.

If and when this war ever ends, it will take many, many decades to rebuild the vast wastelands that were once bustling urban centers and thriving towns.

    Dammit to hell................

*Kudos to the outstanding reports by the newsmen (ABC/BBC) on "World News"; these men are literally putting themselves in serious danger, with every report they give.

    These men have GUTS.............

Heard on "World News" (ABC) earlier that, within 48-72 hours, there may be a release of a number of Hamas hostages.

Am praying within an inch of my soul that the outcome will be a happy one for so many hostages and their families, after weeks of so much heart-wrenching anxiety................

    Agreed, 100%, my friend.

It would indeed be the end of a long and horrific living nightmare, for the hostages and their families.

Please let us finally see the brilliant, friendly, welcoming light at the end of the long, dark, and treacherous tunnel............

The hostages are keep in some places in Gaza where could be in some tunnels under any building but not in one place, so any miss calculation of bombing could be desatr if they be killed. So the logical way to save their life is stoping bombings and let the United Nations involve to release them. Since Nethanyaho is not a person who thinks about the life of the people including the hostages, our president Biden should pushes him seriously to stop the barbaric war at least for a couples of day, to gain time to free them.

What never ceases to amaze me as to how that incredible network of complex tunnels was built without anyone up above the wiser; after all, these are not rough, hand-hewn tunnels, but tunnels you would find beneath the streets of every major city, used by any of a number of utilities, not to mention emergency exits for the subways, in such cities as New York.

You would think there would have been SOME inkling that all this underground tunneling was taking place......

Well there is the pro Palestinian narrative, that naively believes they are mostly innocent victims who do not support terrorism. Then there is the reality that these people have been breeding and supporting and allowing their terrorists to be in control and do whatever they want in their city. That's how you get tunnels under your city, support. Either proactive or passive support. When their TV is teaching 4 year olds that this is their destiny... come on!

Counter to the Pro Palestinian misinformation nonsense, the REAL victims of genocidal violence for hundreds of years has always been the Jewish people.

The vicious pogroms of the late 1800's and early 1900's, and the Holocaust of WW2, we thought, until not all that long ago, was history, never to be repeated, in all its many horrors.

    How wrong we all were.....................

You are right, the Jewish have been victims during the history, as well as Politician during the last century, and unfortunately it could be reppited again and again if we, as a civilized nations in 21th century, don't want to solve the problem without any religious ideology, just based on the reality facts.
What is the real facts? The real facts is mean the hole Palestine tretory including the present Israeli country should be the main land to steel both Jewish and Palestinian based on the two different states.
As I said there have been dirty religious wars in Middle East for more than 3000 years. If we try to solve the Middle East problems we should judge based on the human rights for every one without any religious' idealogy.
The resent war could accelerate the problem if we stay on our rong ideologies.

Sadly, for too many reasons to try to fathom out here, the Middle East has been boiling over for many, many centuries.

Even in times of relative peace, there has always been upheaval, violence, unrest, and uncertainty in that part of the world.

Think of just how far back in time hatred of the Jews has proliferated (recall, now, the 1956 Charlton Heston classic film "The Ten Commandments"?)

The living nightmare of the pogroms depicted in 1971's "Fiddler On The Roof"?

I cannot fathom WHY Jews are so hated by so many.......WHY??

ALL hatred is a vicious, cancerous disease, and is now spreading like wildfire throughout the world.

When Jews are afraid to even step out of their front door, let alone go to their houses of worship. it's truly a sad and sickening commentary on the hateful, unstable, chaotic society we are a part of.......it is BEYOND despicable......

The answer to your first question is easy, the Middle East is the center of 3 major religions, so each religious member thinks his religious idealogy is better than the other. And none of them like to give rights to the others. The result of the religious idealogy has caused more than 3000 years of war in the Middle East.

    That certainly would make sense.

A highly-volatile mix, to be sure...........
