Politics at least spreads some power around and changes over time. Religion never changes and grabs all it can along with fools money.

You mentioned that after stabilishing Isreal in 70 years ago, the only side who has not like to live with Jewish people in peace, was Palestinian! It is surprise, if you tack a look to Israel-palestine history in Wikipedia you will get sufficient information. Just I like to mention some of the massocurs which happened during the last 70 years by Israeli army.
One of this barbaric massocur happened in the refugy camp of Sabra and Shakila in southern Lebanon in September 1982.
The camp was surrounded by Israeli soldiers and Christian Falangist party. During just 2days 2000 to 3500 Palestinians refugy were killed, surprising nobody did not care about whatever happened to these inesen kids, women, men, young or old humans.
This is just one sample , there a lot more like happened in Kafar Ghasem, Daire Yasin, so and so and so .
The Israeli government takes hostages not only 6 millions Palestinian but also 6 millions Jewish in Israeli.
There is no differences between Apartheid in South Africa and in Isreal.
The only way to come out of this shit is to accept tow states, that's it. But the arm production factories owner don't let it to happen.

Look at how many gays have suffered persecution and bigotry because of their orientation, due to so much intolerance and ignorance (God alone only knows how many suicides were involved) from religions groups/churches.

Religion, politics, and human rights can indeed make for dangerous volatility.

    Think of this:

The KKK and other "good Christians" think nothing of burning crosses on lawns.

Do these so-called "Christians" realize that, in burming a CROSS, they are committing a blatant blasphemy?

Too many evil minds are truly so poisoned by hatred, they have no idea at all what they are doing, nor of the damage they are causing...........

    Latest news:

Gaza City in ruins; electricity is about to be cut (what there is of it) as the emergency generators at the power station are fast running out of fuel.

No running water; food supplies fast running out.

Over 1,000 dead on both sides.

    Living hell.............waste, waste, waste...........

.......news reports tell us that Hamas had been planning this slaughter for TWO YEARS......TWO YEARS.

HOW is it that "intelligence" did not even have an iNKLING of what evil was in the offing, during these past two years??

Think of the thousands of innocent people that would still be alive, had this senseless, cowardly, cold-blooded slaughter been detected and averted.........

22 Americans have been killed so far.......my thoughts, prayers, and sympathies to their families and their friends.

The scenes of mass urban destruction are hauntingly reminiscent of views of Hiroshima; Godzilla could not have wreaked such total and devastating destruction...........:(

I believe that more than religious this is mainly an economic issue.
You have to know the history of both peoples and it is quite complex. But it can also be simplified. This is what happens in other parts of the world, such as here in Argentina. There are no Hamas terrorists here, but we have criminals who fulfill the same function.
I heard an Israeli citizen saying that they can't sleep peacefully, that every noise he hears wakes up alarmed, etc. I thought... But that's exactly what happens to me.

    Good points.

Look at how much civil unrest/revolutions have taken place in Mexico, as well as Central and South America, during the course of the past several decades, give cause to some sort of revolt or uprising.

Poor economics, out-of-control inflation, and corrupt politics are all sure-fire ingredients for civil unrest and revolt.

It's never civil....nor friendly......and the "average citizen" largely is no better off than he was before..........

That's why I don't believe in any religion, just look at Middle East, there has been more than 3 thousands years of wars! Why, just because of the religious beliefs. Christian says I am right, Jewish says I am right, Muslim says both of you are wrong I am right, so what is the result? The result is war and war and war for the people who doesn't know what is the main reason of their tragedic life? If they know the relogin is the main reason, defiantly they will change their ideas. On the other hand, as much as the people are pour, they believe more in religion, so if their economic situation improve their life and educations will improve too, then there will not be any reason to hate the other people.
If the stupid politicians and the gaverments who spend millions of dollars for developing their army, just spend 1/100 of it to improve the economic situation of the pour nations, surly there will be more peace and less war.

This is exactly why I (a looooong-lapsed Catholic) do not subscribe to any "organized" religion.

Sadly, for many, religion can often inflict guilt and disapproval upon many good individuals, simply because of who they are.

Religion (like the Bible) is all too often used as a weapon of hatred and intolerance, instead of fostering love, brotherhood, and acceptance.

Look at all the senseless, brutal attacks on Jews over the past few years.

Last year, in the New York area, a number of Sikh men were attacked.

Then, too, the cowardly attacks on Muslims and gays.

Back in the 60's, we used to hear so much about "peace" and "brotherhood" and "love.........yes, that was a long, long time ago.................

Just heard on the news that ".......Palestine had been lulling Israel into a false sense of tranquility and trust for the past several years........"

That may well be, but I STILL cannot fathom WHY such a well-orchestrated, well-planned attack was NOT detected by Israeli "intelligence".

Talk about being "asleep at the switch"...........

I wonder.....were they really asleep?! I understand there are just 7 border crossings into Gaza. SEVEN.
The rest of the border is impregnable, or so we are led to believe, because the Gazan's aren't able to leave.
I wonder then, how did the arms get into Gaza in the first place?

I'm still of the view (though willing to adapt), that keeping an issue 'live', such as the siege of Gaza, can help maintain power for those who perpetuate it.
Feeling vulnerable and with the constant fear of attack, as many in Israel do, the people will elect the government which has 'shown' itself to be strong and defiant.
However, were that leadership actually strong and working for its people rather than for its own political power, a solution would have been worked out by now which would make the people feel safe.

Interesting, also, to hear on BBC news of Bernie Sanders' comments on the subject. Some may not rate him but he's got knowledge and experience. Basically America (the Govt) has done it's best to help bring about peace.
I don't dispute that but then a professor from a university (I don't recall which) for whom this is his main subject matter, referred to many well-intended people trying their best but, their best isn't good enough.

Based on my understanding and knowledge of other conflicts, there are principles behind a resolution.
Acceptance that there is no military solution.
Acceptance that dialogue and compromise are the only way forward.

Of course, what would be next if there were to be peace? Well the government would need to step up and govern on normal political/national issues just like they do in any other peaceful country.

I think that's where the current Israel Govt would fail and therefore lose their grip on power. They need the conflict at least, to be murmuring along.

Look how many political leaders have been on the way out of office (next election) but then there just happens to be a military conflict of some sort, which emboldens their position.
    Guiliani, Bush jnr, Thatcher, Churchill.

Of course the Isrealis need to be protected but I think, not such that they become supreme.

    That's another of my 2c.

None of us, I am sure, will ever know the true and complete story behind Israeli intelligence failing to detect the oncoming surprise attack.

In this instance, who really is to blame?

Who failed to detect any enemy "chatter"or "transmissions" from Palestine/Hamas, over a period of several years?

When and if this bloody, senseless conflict is over, think of the decades that will be needed to tear down all of the damaged and destroyed buildings and infrastructure, to start the long, painful process of rebuilding (the same holds true for war-torn Ukraine)

This is a war that, indeed, affects so many, on several continents.

Though New York is the home of the largest Jewish population outside of Israel, think of the thousands that reside in cities around the world.

Too, think of the many large cities (such as New York and London) with large Muslim/Middle Eastern populations.

In fact, London has had a Muslim mayor for several years now.

I fear backlash (in many forms, directed at many) will soon be forthcoming around the globe.

How will this bloody conflict end?

    And when?

Is there any hope for the hostages taken by Hamas?

Of course, not even the greatest military minds could even hope to answer these questions...........

Regarding all the many conflicts involving the Middle Eastern people, their lands, their history, most people (even those devoutly religious) think of Jesus as being white.

After all, wasn't Jesus born in Bethlehem? (no, NOT the city of the same name in Pennsylvania!)

Well, certainly, I would think it stand to reason that Jesus was NOT of the Caucasian race.

Wouldn't Jesus STILL be Jesus, regardless of his color?

On a news report last evening, there was a mass get-together in New York, with a large religious leaders of many faiths and races.

Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist.........though the occasion was indeed a sad and sober one, it was still a beautiful sight to see so many religious leaders representing so many faiths and races, all together as one, all there in solidarity and brotherhood.

Personally, I believe many bigots are as they are because they are afraid that, when focusing on someone else who is not of their color, race, or faith, that they MIGHT just have something in common with them, but, to admit this, would be to accept them as equals.

"Equality" such as this scares them, so they put up a wall built of hatred around them for "protection".

How much time is wasted on hatred......the rampant, deadly disease without a vaccination.

Common sense would indeed dictate that there are bigots and racists in EVERY race and ethnic group; it is time for us to start accepting one another for who they are, and to forge a bond of trust, understanding, and brotherhood between them.

Life is far, far too short to waste on hatred...............
