Prominent Israeli navy reserve officers now denounce the recent operation as a diplomatic and military failure. That's certainly plain for all to see. They also called for an independent probe into the incident. Which does not look like happening. Will Israel publicly release any of the evidences that its forces collected from the ship. Probably not.

That's why a genuinely independent inquiry into the incident is needed.

There is going to be an inquiry with independent observers...which is a little bit of a cop out...but something is going to happen, atleast.

    How independent are the observers?

What will be parameters of the inquiry?

These will be the question many will justifiably ask.

A number of leading Israeli jurists have already ridiculed it.

So I think its more than just a little cop out as you say.

Total cop out. Do you let a defendant accused of murder set up his own 'inquiry' and assign his own 'independent observers'?

    They won't be Israeli.

    David Trimble, international observer

Now a Conservative member of Britain's House of Lords, Mr Trimble led the Ulster Unionist Party during negotiations that led to the peace agreement in Northern Ireland, receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in the talks. He recently joined the "Friends of Israel" initiative, which was launched in Paris with the support of Israel's former ambassador to the United Nations, Dore Gold, a close associate of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

    Ken Watkin, international observer

Mr Watkin was a brigadier general in the Canadian military and served as judge advocate general of his country's armed forces until earlier this year. In this role, he provided legal advice to the governor-general, minister of defence and Canadian forces on matters of military law, as well as overseeing Canada's military justice system.

    What happened.

But will they be zionist or zionist-leaning in their world-view ?

Canadians are just as liable to be zionist or zionist-leaning as anyone else.

    They won't be Israeli.

So what. How does that matter when they are well "friends of Israel"

What will be the parameters of the inquiry: What Happened.

How is it an investigation "to establish what happens as you say" when it will have no powers to compel witnesses to appear or be able to question the soldiers or commanders that were involved in the operation let alone come to any findings that have legal effect.

Is it a whitewash or does the Israeli government not know how to conduct a proper investigation. May be as you said earlier Israel is no better then Hamas in these matters.

How come when the South Korean ship was sunk and people blamed North Korea, no one asked North Korea to do it's own investigation and assign its own independent observers? Or perhaps Iran should investigate for itself whether its own nuclear program is legitimate? Of course, if countries are able to investigate their own conduct, the US instead of invading Iraq should simply have asked Saddam to investigate himself to determine whether he had WMDs. And it's only fair that Hamas' launching rockets into Israel should, of course, be investigated by Hamas itself. Right?

Because the victims have to be doubly condemned, which is what will happen. The only way you can really do that is if the killers are allowed to sponsor the officially investigate their own actions which is also what is happening. The fox enjoys many dinners in the hen house. But the fox may end up becoming fat and lazy, its brood degenerating bit by bit into a rabble.

I thought it might make a difference. Obviously not.

I think I said: "one could argue"...Israel is atleast making some sort of effort to account for itself. But I think it will turn into a whitewash...because we all know the outcome already.

the siege will never be lifted

the old testament says the people of gaza must be destroyed in no uncertain terms - along with all the other peoples of the world.

you won't get much sense out of odon (matthew) he's an old troll of the israelis - good luck with your complaint about human rights he'll just post multiple posts until any reasonable argument disappears - its an old trick of hitler - just shout down the opposition.

when it comes to the next election don't vote for people who put israel before your own country.
