(if this is true, then it is good they aren't disarmed yet! yet many wish so!) It was not immediately clear what the Israeli aircraft were firing at in the village of Bodai. An Israeli army spokesman said the army was checking the report. Such an attack would be the first since a U.N. truce ended 34 days of fighting between Israeli forces and Hizbollah guerrillas in southern Lebanon.

DOHA • The first Christian politician to openly come out in support of Hezbollah-even before the last round of Israeli aggression-has stated that the war came as a surprise to everyone, barring western leaders George W Bush, Tony Blair and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. In an interview, former deputy in the Lebanese Parliament, Jumail Shammas, said: "No doubt the aggression was a surprise to all parties involved. But not for Bush, Rice or Blair. They have an agenda in the region which seeks to realise their goals of empire where the capital will be Tel Aviv." The present chairman of the Lebanon-Qatar Business Council pointed out that control of the region's resources, especially oil, was the driving force behind their agenda. All orders from the empire's capital would emanate from Tel Aviv and have to be obeyed as Arab states became colonies. Israel, he said, would only reap a handful of benefits from the proposed grand alliance. Without identifying any Arab nations, he said some states saw the war as an opportunity to see Hezbollah wiped out as an entity. "The stance of some of these countries was based on the issue of sects (Sunni and Shia). I know Hezbollah very well and was the first Christian to support them. I know their leadership well. They are heroic. They had many chances to join the government in Beirut but refused to take part due to what they saw as the rampant corruption in politics," the ex-Deputy said. The war, even though there is a ceasefire, is not over. The next chapter would take place in diplomacy with countries trying to jockey for position in the region. "Arabs who had agreed to eliminate Hezbollah found themselves greatly mistaken. Hezbollah is a national movement fighting for the benefit of Lebanon and its people," he opined. The ceasefire, he said, was loaded with landmines which might explode at any point of time. "A lot of countries underestimated Hezbollah but now they have all agreed to support Lebanon." Once again not openly identifying any particular country, Shammas said some nations were openly financing Lebanese political parties and may have adopted their particular anti-Hezbollah stances after "assurances from the US that the war would be over in 24 hours". Shammas said the Fouad Siniora government should step down immediately and make way for a government of salvation. However, the former Deputy noted that under no circumstances could the Siniora government be accused of being Israeli agents. "But they may be unwittingly helping the Israelis who are somehow depending on them to get rid of Hezbollah," Shammas said.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanese security and Hizbollah sources said Israeli aircraft and commandos raided a Hizbollah stronghold in eastern Lebanon early on Saturday just hours after the U.N. appealed to European countries for peacekeepers. The Lebanese security source said warplanes and helicopters attacked unidentified targets during an air drop of commandos at dawn around the village of Bodai, west of the ancient city of Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley. An Israeli army spokesman said the army was checking the report. Repeated calls have not elicited a further response.
Such an assault would be the first major attack since a U.N. truce ended 34 days of fighting between Israel and the Shi'ite Muslim group Hizbollah.

Hizbollah television reported its guerillas clashed with Israeli commandos near Bodai and forced them to fly out under the cover of air strikes. It said the guerillas had inflicted "certain casualties" among the Israeli forces.

The security source said the aircraft bombed roads leading to the village and a hillside to the west. Israeli officials have vowed to stop any attempts by Hizbollah to rearm via Syria and to target leaders of the group.

"It is a naked violation of the cessation of hostilities declared by the Security Council," Prime Minister Fouad Siniora told reporters, referring to an August 11 resolution. Siniora said he had protested to visiting U.N. envoys.(yeah maybe we are about to witness some more fresh hypocrisy, get ready:sunglasse ) The truce came into effect on Monday.

Israel has already been violating the cease-fire by attacking a village in the Bekaa Valley, despite the fact that no one in the area was firing on Israeli forces.

The Israeli soldiers came into the area disguised as Lebanese Army troops (a violation of the Geneva Convention)-however, apparently no one in the area believed that they were Lebanese Army soldiers. They had to leave when just about everybody in the village started shooting back at them!

The raid took place overnight under the cover of sonic booms from Israeli jets flying overhead, which occurs often over Lebanon. But this time they provided cover to mask the sound of helicopters bringing in the commando unit and two Humvee vehicles. Villagers said the soldiers were dressed in Lebanese Army uniforms. The success of the effort was a matter of dispute. An Israeli Army spokesman in Jerusalem said the mission’s “objectives had been attained in full.” Villagers said otherwise. “They failed completely,” said Sadiq Hamdi, 36, a scrap-iron dealer. “They were still on the road when the Hezbollah came upon them. They did not take one percent of what they were trying to do.” The Israeli Army said it would continue such raids until “proper monitoring bodies are established on the Lebanese borders,” another task for the United Nations forces in Lebanon. On Friday, a top Israeli commander warned that Israel would halt any resupply efforts and vowed to kill the Hezbollah leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah. Suleiman Chamas, 38, the mayor of this village, surrounded by tobacco fields about 10 miles west of Baalbek, gave the following account. The disguised commandos landed in the eastern foothills of the Mount Lebanon range, loaded into Humvees and drove east on a road called Ayoun Semman, where they encountered a roadblock manned by local Hezbollah fighters.

The commandos shouted in Arabic, “Peace be with you, we’re one of yours,” and tried to drive past the roadblock without stopping. The guerrillas started shooting and gave chase. The commandos turned off onto a dirt road, and a gun battle broke out, drawing more villagers. “The whole village came down, both those who could shoot and those who cannot,” Mayor Chamas said. About 40 minutes later, fighter jets and helicopters fired rockets and evacuated the commandos, he said. There were two fresh craters in the rich red Bekaa Valley soil. Left behind were large bloodstains, syringes and surgical masks, indicating casualties, and what the villagers believed was some kind of device to guide the helicopters in. Villagers said there were no casualties on the Lebanese side. Yahya Ali, 30, wearing a red shirt and carrying an AK-47 assault rifle, was one of a number of villagers who said the Israeli commandos were dressed like Lebanese soldiers. He said they were wearing the mostly green woodland camouflage uniforms that are standard issue for the Lebanese Army, similar to what was used until recently by the United States Army, along with olive-green flak jackets and green helmets, also standard issue here. Israeli soldiers wear a brownish uniform in a single color along with brown body armor and helmets. Mr. Ali said he could see the uniform clearly because in the rescue the helicopters and Humvees had bright lights turned on. The boldness of the raid in the midst of the cease-fire suggested that the Israelis might have had some major objective in mind, perhaps the rescue of their two abducted comrades or the capture of a major Hezbollah figure. Boudai is the home village of Sheik Mohammed Yazbeck, a senior Hezbollah leader in the Bekaa Valley and a member of the group’s Shura Council. But the mayor and others say he is rarely here these days. The village had been the scene Friday of a big funeral for a Hezbollah guerrilla, Mahmoud Ahmed Asef, who was killed fighting in Bint Jbail. “It seems they wanted to kidnap someone, because at such funerals notable people will come,” Mayor Chamas said.

The Lebanese government, in an unprecedented move, has warned Hezbollah against violating the UN-brokered truce. (The truce is broken! huh! or is it permissible for Israel only to break it, they already said theuy will go on!)

In an implicit warning to the militia, Elias Murr, Lebanon's defence minister, said on Sunday that anyone who violated a cease-fire deal by firing rockets into Israel from Lebanon would be arrested and tried by a military court.

"Any violation ... any rocket that would give Israel a justification [to hit Lebanon] will be treated harshly," (isn't justificatin, israel may use it as a justification or any other thing, it is a reaction, you are saying in other words, turn your other cheek?)Murr told a press conference."It will be considered as direct collaboration with the enemy,(I think when ya don't react that encourages the enemy as ya like to ''call'' it ,so this is the real collaboration''" Murr said, adding that those responsible "will be tried and referred to a military tribunal".(and let's see to which tribunal you will be tried, maybe Allah's tribunal! see ya there)

BEIRUT - Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora said on Sunday that the month-long hostilities with Israel could provide an opportunity to reach peace. ‘I believe that if Israel uses all its senses and thinks wisely, I think it will be the opportunity,’ Siniora told reporters. ‘The opportunity is how to convert what happened in Lebanon—the calamity that was inflicted on Lebanon—to make it an opportunity to move toward real peace,’ he said. He was speaking after meeting with visiting Swedish Aid Minister Carin Jaetim who was preparing for a donors’ conference in Stockholm on August 31 to help Lebanon recover from the devastation inflicted by Israeli attacks. ‘Force does not solve problems,’ Siniora said. Siniora said ‘security and safety for Israel cannot be assured by the extent and sophistication of weapons that they hold.’‘Security and safety can be assured if they really go down the road that would lead toward comprehensive and just and permanent peace in this part of the world,’ he said.‘We call for peace,’ he said.

Chavez likened the Israeli practices in Lebanon to the war crimes committed by Germany's Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. "Israel criticizes Hitler a lot and we do too. But they have done something similar or, perhaps worse, who knows, than what the Nazis did ... This is fascism." The recent scandals of the Israeli political leaders have also given a cause for the mounting calls for the Israeli leaders to step down. "The crisis is so serious that the government seems doomed in the long-term," political science professor Shlomo Avineri told AFP. "It is not just a bad show for the military campaign, but a lack of confidence in the entire political class accumulating in the scandals," the former director of the foreign ministry said. A police investigation has been ordered by the Israeli attorney general into accusation that President Moshe Katsav sexually harassed a woman employee. Justice Minister Haim Ramon was also accused of kissing a woman soldier against her will, sparking fresh sex allegations and ultimately forcing his resignation this week. "It's time to say goodbye," screamed a headline in the tabloid-style Maariv newspaper while urging Olmert, Katsav and Halutz to go. "Halutz should take the initiative and resign before he is forced out, Olmert should widen his government immediately otherwise his Kadima party will collapse and Katsav would do better to leave without delay," it said.

Lebanon's prime minister on Thursday called on world donors to help his country recover after Israeli attacks wiped out "15 years of postwar development". Some 60 governments and aid organizations were meeting in Stockholm hoping to raise $500 million to help Lebanon rebuild roads, bridges and homes left shattered by the war. According to the AP, Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora told delegates that the direct damage of the conflict was in the "billions of dollars" while the indirect cost including lost tourism and industry revenue would cost billions more. "Moreover, Lebanon's well-known achievements in 15 years of postwar development have been wiped out in a matter of days by Israel's deadly war machine," Saniora said.He said reconstruction efforts would be "severely undermined" if Israel doesn't lift its sea, air and land blockade of Lebanon.

Israel leaves behind 100,000 unexploded bombs

The UN's Humanitarian Chief Jan Egeland has described Israel's use of cluster bombs in south Lebanon during the final three days of the conflict there as "shocking" and "immoral". He said that thousands of Lebanese civilians remain at risk from unexploded cluster bombs dropped there. "What's shocking and I would say completely immoral is that 90 percent of the cluster bomb strikes occurred in the last 72 hours of the conflict when we knew there would be a resolution, when we knew there would be an end," he said.Egeland said that the UN had assessed nearly 85 percent of bombed areas in south Lebanon and identified 359 separate cluster bomb strike locations contaminated with as many 100,000 unexploded bombs. In Geneva, Chris Clark, head of the UN Mine Action Service in southern Lebanon, said there had been 59 confirmed casualties, including 13 deaths, caused by the explosives since the end of hostilities on August 14.Egeland said the bombs may have been manufactured in a number of places, including the United States. "Those places who made those bombs should have a serious talk with Israel on the use of such bombs that are making our lives so miserable trying to help the Lebanese people. I hope the US will talk to the Israelis on that (but US has no morals as well,so what do ya want them to tell Israelthese bombs should be banned on imoral countries (for all countries would be betta), because it is an outrage that we have 100,000 bombs among where children, women, shopkeepers and farmers are now going to tread," Egeland said, adding that he had not been able to get an explanation from the Israelis so far.Egeland said he would launch an appeal for more money for mine clearance when he attends Thursday's conference in Stockholm on Lebanon's reconstruction. The United Nations has asked Israel to provide a list of sites targeted during its month-long offensive in Lebanon, something which is crucial for the clean up.
