haha epa = enviromental protection agency that's the main enviromental "group" that handles most of the enviromental issues. I think euro is right
the EPA is bullshit. it's a government front. just like there was a coalation of concerned environmentalists (or something like that) that was paid for by pesticide companies, that tried to tell us the dangers of letting weeds grow on our laws and how we had to use chemical pesticides for the environments sake. the air quality may have improved over the last 20 years but thats becasue in the 80's there were little to no checks in place to limit pollution. obviously if no one is filtering anything, any change will be an improvement...but take a look at the figures of the last ten years provided by the same agency that says pollution is going down. http://www.epa.gov/airtrends/aqi10year.pdf
If you want to see waste, go work in a factory... heh... you'll see millions and millions of dollars of waste thrown out each year...
I read somewhere that, I think it was the Navajos (I could be wrong), would not make a single decision for the tribe without considering the 7th generation to come after them. We always hear people screaming in hysteria "Think of the children!" but no one does. In fact, we hardly even think about our own lives 10 or 15 years down the road. We are so short term that we'd rather live disgustingly unhealthy lives and just take a pill when all the diseases start popping up. We'd rather destroy the environment, on which we depend for our lives, believe it or not, then pay 10 times as much to fix what problems we caused as it would have cost to prevent them in the first place. This is what's wrong with the world; this is why there is so much war, strife, greed, and environmental destruction.
You should see my work. I work at a pet supplies store, and the amount of cardboard we throw out every day is astounding. We fill up our large sized dumpster daily. Some of the other employees and I have asked about recycling it, but the management just says we don't have space. I say, since 80-90% of the garbage, by volume, is cardboard, we should stop throwing it out, and recycle it; the issue should be finding space for the garbage, rather than the recyclables. It looks like I may have to take matters into my own hands; I feel like such a hypocrite working there and throwing it all out when we could be recycling it.
What have they done to the earth? What have they done to our fair sister? Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn And tied her with fences and dragged her down
First, kudos to the above poster. Great Doors quote. The never-ending and always inevitable question.....: WHY? It is difficult for me personally to decide on anything to write because there is so much ,that to exclude any part is seemingly fatal. One portal to veiw the 'why' factor from is:...... Because the 'we' find it more convenient to buy the Cheezits we want when we've stopped feeling completely full. And we prefer to medicate with pharmaceuticals rather than the alternatives. And we find it much much easier to have a cage that transports us, and yet another to emit rays to entertain us, and another to emit more rays to change the temperature of our food. Why? Because, we've given into raping our mother for the sake of our conveniences. Think. Is it absolutley necessary that we own the computers we now use to type about the misfortunes of 'civilized' life. There is your irony. Although this particular group is more aware than most, we hop on a computer to tell of the problems with the environment. I agree with Max -that a change (which is possible(for all things are) will take a massive, massive awakening. Put down the remote. It isn't vital. Put down the taterchips. It isn't vital. Put down the bugspray. It isn't vital. Put down the unecessaries. Guess what. It isn't vital! I think people believe that the env. problem is so large that it is beyond their grasp, and is only the 'Big Businesses' boo-boo But NO. You, the DEMAND. Determine the SUPPLY! It is in changing the very attitude of how we live that IS vital....to us and to our mother. Try this website and see how many Mother Earths it would take to support your lifestyle if everyone lived as you lived now. http://www.myfootprint.org/ Also check out http://www.lead.org/leadnet/footprint/intro.htm Change Is Possible. Start now so we can enjoy an env. friendly future before the next gen. Life and love
Hehe, yes, it is a great quote, and very meaningful. Also, I agree totally with what you said... people think they can't even live without cell phones anymore... they've only been around for twenty damn years! Peoples' priorities are way out of wack.
Hey, I'd not been back to this particular thread in a while, but I'm glad to see that some people appreciated and sympathized with what I was trying to get across. I truly hope that within the next decade or so we can begin to see evidence of such an awakening, for all sakes life and love
