I don't bathe that often though and propane is a luxury. Not like it seems, I have a sweet smelling coat like my dogs. Could heat water on the woodstove. Hot water mostly for sanitation around food

I am planning a different kind of solar setup if I can bank-roll it... Some is going to be 12v LED lighting, separate panels for the well and electric hot water at higher voltages... No propane. I want to get as far away from utility companies as possible yet still have this place running as it does now. (better actually)

Winter time part of my hot water system is heated via the wood furnace... I have a hot water coil in the firebox and a holding tank. Solar will also run the furnace blower fan and the hot water pump for the radiator heat in the master bedroom. This will likely be the same panels as the hot water heater. Hopefully

I would like a third setup for cook stove, ovens, etc. that can also take care of the rest of the 110v lighting and ceiling fans.

Complicated. but I have my reasons. The well is mandatory, if the power goes out I don't have water. The other systems are to just stop paying so damn much to the 'lectric company. Separate smaller systems can be installed over time and if one system goes down I still have the others "off grid"

Anyways, Hot water heater crapped out in the middle of my shower again. [IMG] It's shot... I can't do cold showers.

On another note... The new dual head shower system is gonna be amazing when I have proper hot water.

There is the rub of off grid conversions. Yeah and I am with you on the cold showers. Got hypothyroidism and cold water puts me into a state of shock.

i have finally lived in a place with an attic the one advantage is i can throw everything up there. never would throw anything out without it being used by someone else. i will at the very least just throw it up there and forget about it till i need it.

I haven't found that what was needed is ever absent. It's nice to have that item. it is a waste of space to have more of that item than is required at any given moment. So when we think of acquisitions maybe they could be of things that you know you don't have. My wife was a hoarder of epic proportions. Her logic was the same, we might need it. Her style of house keeping could be described as piles and isles. I once moved a pile and she became frantic. When I asked her what I had moved she couldn't itemize anything in particular.

i could be classified in the same way as a hoarder but the one big difference is i keep it in certain rooms. what i have grown up calling the "junk rooms" now i have 10 rooms and only one junk room so i think i am doing pretty good....and thats not counting the attic which has lots of unused space available.
