Apparently we had our biggest tourist season ever this year. It's only a matter of time before other states want to get in on that revenue. Their citizens are spending all their money here when they could be doing it at home. We have mountains for skiing they cannot duplicate but they can grow some weed.

While going off grid would be ideal that's not my intent... Ohio is one of the states that plans to up your property taxes for running the meter backwards via solar/wind installation. (if they haven't already passed that legislation) What I want to do is make it look like I'm just using a lot less electricity but keep the same or better life style. This house already has a lot going for it as far as passive heating and cooling so adding some solar panels and a DIY backup system makes a lot of sense... and cents.

If I can get that far, even if the shit hits the fan and the grid goes down the house can sustain itself...

Yeah because the tax is so high the black market is cheaper. Only tourists who don't know anyone go to retail shops. Locals either have a card and pay less tax (like $10 on a $180 oz) or they just go to a dealer and don't pay tax. In retail stores you can pay $50 or $60 1/8 with the tax. But for many people that is what they pay on the street back home and they are just happy to do it legaly.

yep. If it were taxed at the same rate as any other commodity then they would get a more genuine take of the marijuana scene. As it was in my area the black market price had been driven down by copious supply. Now it is become more profitable again because of the uptick in demand. The demand now being that we conserve our resources for those who stay at home, cheaper pot. I grow my own pot,(medical) and am care giver for some. Money never changes hands around it.

For me it is a fact of location. The closest power line is over a mile away. Fortunately I live in a mild marine influenced climate with great natural abundance.

This place has been on grid since 1948... and it gets damn cold during the winter. Original heat was oil fired boiler but those pipes and the boiler are long gone. Oil tank is still buried in the yard, but I'l never use it. I heat with woodstove and wood furnace.

8.5 acres of woods... it's a sustainable woodland. Mostly Ash getting used now, thanks to the Emerald Ash borer. There's a lot of thinning needed and some invasive species need to go away, old damaged trees, etc. Lots of wood and no clear cutting needed. I'm going to be planting some too, not that I'll ever use those, just to keep it healthy.

Same here. You would call my place heavily timbered and I live adjacent to a working state forest. I had to fell many large trees in order to get enough sunlight to grow vegetables. I drop trees keeping the species they are going to fall on in mind. Some of the under story shrubs take a long while to reach their current stature and I just want the light to come in but I don't want to scare the substrate. I cart rounds out of the woods one by one from where i fall the trees and cart all the limbs out to be burned in the summer camping season so I don't leave a lot of extra fuel lying on the ground. My place has a hundred a twenty foot elevation differential so a lot of up and down under load.

Coffee and a joint to start my day.

Has anyone tried Tim Horton's new dark roast? I had one yesterday and didn't really like it. Their regular coffee is pretty tasteless, and this one tasted the same but a bit more bitter.
