Better, but the states are divisable when it comes to justice, law, liberty and equality. We see proof of that everyday. I'd rewrite it; I pledge allegiance to the Constitution of the United States and the principles for which it stands. Differing states and peoples, comprising one nation united, with the exception of justice, equality, law, and liberty with Doritos and Ho Hos for all.
I tend not to recite the pledge myself, due to the One nation, under God line. As an atheist, it offends me. So in summation, your right to free speech doesn't matter? It sounds like it didn't in that court room.
You mean homosexuals can openly join the U.S. Military? I have been following the slow demise of DADT and had not heard that. And by mainstream you mean I can get married to another man in Florida now and adopt a child? I think you are extremely misinformed about U.S. culture or you are just being silly.
Everyone in power of the law, from the highest power in the government all the way down to the pig police cops, are all about having power and flaunting it. They can do whatever they want because they are fighting for "justice". I seen 2 cops at a festival once, idk what they were doing there. Then as i walked out i seen their cop car parked in the street, doors open, engine still running. I was like those ignorant fucks, thats tax payer money going right out of the tailpipe, but they dont care. I hate those fuckers. i got arrested once for drinking when i was 17 and the one cop was telling me im going to grow up to be nothing and im gonna get arrested for doing crack. the best part of it all is i told the judge i was innocent that i wasnt even drunk and that they had no evidence against me, but apparently, if a cop says anything its true.
It seems it is all about power, even money is only a stepping ladder to having power. And as far as street law enforcement, it really is, whatever they say goes. They can state smell marijuana or alcohol when they don't and there will be no qualm except for the innocent trying to stick up for themselves. And Elijah, this is the United States, not some Fascist fuck state where we legally are required to state our faith in god and our allegiance to America. And if anything is unamerican about this, it's the judge.
i dont pledge my allegiance to america, nor would i to any nation, to do so would be to abandon my own sense of right and wrong and blindly be led by an imperfect, evolving, deceitful system created mostly by individuals who have fought so hard for what was really important to them...power. nations have always practiced deceit to promote their will, using religion and twisted truths to create a cause the masses will follow. how can i pledge to something i cant trust? and even if their intention is to honestly represent their reasoning who's to say their perceptions that have led to their decision was not miss perceived? and if it was not miss perceived who's to say i will agree with it? im not going to do something that goes against my conscious. i believe in doing what i believe is right not what is promoted by whatever nation i live in. that means i decide on my stance on a case by case bases not blindly and indefinitely
When I was a wee lad in grade school I used to never say it and the teachers would get mad insisting that we say it. I also went to a catholic school where they would insist we pray.
If this judge doesn't understand the constitution he doesn't deserve to wear the robes. That doesn't sound so bad... because it was a uh, you know, catholic school.
How about being jailed for refusing an order to report for induction to the army? In this situation the supposed criminal (myself, United States, year 1969) has actually done nothing at all but exist. He has not chosen his gender or birthplace, and in many cases has never been given the opportunity to vote (my case also). He has been ordered to perform military service and likely fight in a war in a country that neither he nor anyone in his family would ever have heard of, had it not been for meddling overseas by the U.S. State Department and Congress. Good luck to you, down there in the Land of the Free.
I think we should all say whatever we're told to say by other people saying things. The devil is my saviour. All hail Satan. Kill goats and Asian people.
I don't disagree with your position about the Vietnam War, but there is a mountain of difference between deliberately breaking a law of the land and violating some arbitrary routine established by one individual. The existence of military conscription may not have been a good law, but it was a law nonetheless. You broke it. So you did do something beyond just existing.
judges tell people to do crazy things, if you dont do them you are in contempt. No matter where your courtroom is, so get over it. If you think its any different anywhere else I double dog dare you to disobey a judge in California, Alaska, Alabama, and Bejing and then tell me who is more tolerant.
So, if a judge tells a gorgeous busty woman in his courtromm to take off her shirt and show him her tits, she has to do that? One would think that even a judge must act within normal propriety AND WITHIN THE LAW OF THE LAND, namely the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. We have had our share of wacko judges here in Florida and there are bodies that remove them from the bench. IDK if Mississippi is as "enlightened" as Florida (which since last week is no longer the only state in 50 to forbid gays from adopting children)
for people who think people should not fight against unreasonable US laws and tell people to go somewhere else if they dont like it here, let us remember all the good law changing in this country done by people who stood up for whats right including african americans and woman. if you dont like a law cuz you know its not right you change it cuz this country isnt ment to be a dictatorship. you do not role on your back and play dead, or pretend you dont notice you're getting raped. i heat that attitudte of " its blasphemy to critisize, complain and fight against any laws here cuz its better here than any where ells so you should be thankful and keep your mouth shut" yet that fighting and complaining is what created america as we know it today, so let the tradition of improvement continue!
quite frankly, yes. In fact, Im surprised you need me to tell you this since you claim to be so worldly, but OFTEN is a person required to show themselves in court when it has something to do with the case. This is not even unusual, or out of the ordinary. Submit pics, video, deposed testimony, and yes, even called to court in order for the judge and perhaps *Gasp* a jury of PEERS to see! That is part of the cornerstone of our legal system, and without we are pretty much fucked. As for the "sexual" situation you probably meant, which doesnt surprise me based on the posts i have seen you make, the fact remains that any judge can tell someone to do anything they want. Until you appeal or get a restraint from another judicial authority, that decisions stays. A judges courtroom is their own, and they have ultimate authority. Thats what being a judge is. Even if they are wrong, it takes another court to decide that. yes, judges make outrageous demands sometimes but until another judge tells you otherwise you have to go along with it. You may be stuck here, but leaving the country isnt gonna make dealing with judges any easier! lol Its just the Pledge of Allegiance, its not like someone is being caned for littering or stoned to death for sodomy.
Which is why the lawyer went to jail rather than be coerced to do something against his free will and which was a violation of national law. And, the judge let him out of jail in five hours. Don't believe for a minute that was so he could argue another case. I suspect that every lawyer and OTHER JUDGE who got wind of this embarrassment told that old ass to let the lawyer out quickly and hope he does not pursue legal recourse. The fact that it happened at all made world news that day. Ultimately, the judge was abusing his power in his courtroom. Yes, he can send you to jail - pigs have done that in this country since forever. But those injustices have been fought against - which we call a "civil rights struggle." Most of us old ppl on this board have witnessed some sort of civil rights struggle - may have even been involved on some level. So the bottom line here is there will always be tyrants and it is up to each to decide if he wants to submit to tyranny or fight it.
