I can't imagine physical pain would do it. Seeing all the sins would more likely make him bawl or puke, I would think. afraid of satan...lol....he supposedly created satan if you believe he is God. I think he was scared someone would twist his message and start a new religion, using him as the draw to get members..... If he was scared, which I doubt.
tihnk of it this way,you hit your thumb on a hammer.....it flippin well hurts, but knowing that it was going to happen before hand would be even worse!knowing the exact time and moment it was going to happen........of course with jesus it was way more extreme.he knew why he came to earth, bot just to point the right way and be a prophet or a good man,but to lay down his own life to save us! he didnt run away from his desciples but this was a time where he needed to spend time with god!jesus needed his father, yes i believe jesus was scared but dont over loook the fact that even though he was scared he still rose to the challenge,he still went along with what he knew he was called to do. mathew 26:39 39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
If this all happened as written, he is a very brave man. You mentioned that he was afraid and went forward anyway. That is courage, if one isn't afraid, it is not courage, cuz courage is the resistance to fear, mastery over fear, not the absence of fear, that is foolhardiness. The 'laying down ones life for his friends' is one of my favorite bible quotes. Thanks for the input. It made me think.
thank you for that! sometimes people forget that jesus was god in FLESH! how could he realte to us if he didnt feel the very same pains and fears that we have.
It would be hard for anyone with a human nervous system to contemplate pain/injury/death and not automatically experience a fear reaction. It is a basic function of the well known 'fight or flight' response which is thought by some psychologists to be at the root of all anxiety. It is a chemical/hormonal reaction - where there is a percieved threat, quantities of adrenalin are released, which quite naturally gives rise to fear. If Jesus didn't have this, or wasn't subject to it, it makes no sense to say he was human as well as Divine. Nor could we say, as many do, that Jesus shared our sufferings, because we do experience fear. As to being scared that someone would twist his new religion - if He was God, he should have planned it better. Then he wouldn't have had to worry on that count. I'm quite sure he would have been scared. Why ask God to 'take this cup from me ' otherwise?
If you got a problem with christianity than GET THE F*CK OUTTA HERE!!! Because the Christian forum just so happens to be full of Christians. YOU'RE being narrow minded, hypocrit. And no. You were never a true christian. A true Christian believes in the Lord until death.
not just belivesd but follow, anyone can believe.the devil amd all his demons believe in jesus, but they are not followers of jesus are they
i love that. it that where the gift of free will comes into it?. that jesus was petrified of what gift he'd given to mankind...that they would exploit it.. those times are now. people are killing in his specific name. tony blair is a die hard christian, but he started a war!!!. when on earth was war ever justified...killing...ever justified...?. and if it's in his name... then all we can say is , not in MY name. and be that thing ourself. does anyone get me on this?. i'm being vague. or maybe he was scared becuase his name holds alot of power and it's misuse is also powerful? or maybe he was scared for mankind? he must have been worried in the first place to come down and point out a few things with a rather clear sign. and since then....we haven't listened. and we're really lost . it's feels like time for a wipe out and a new plan. or a big change. becuase it feels like we're hitting a peak and all absorbed in technology.. but the people thinking that big change needed is war and killing are just stupid fucks. what about amking that big a change inside. if george bush had claered out his own inner deamons...overhtroen the saddam husseiun within himself...he would have been able to start being an american president. but they stupidly look outisde to the 'terrorists' all this talk about terroists is another word for demons. and people don't realise, the terroists are inside. thats where the warfield is. we don't need to make it some playground of killing. how messed up do you have to be to actually think it's nessercary to kill somebody?! it's just ridiculous. sorry for being soooo off topic. but actually it's not, becuase jesus showed us all this by his example..that the soldiers killing him were really really screwed up with their small minds.
for western christendom, this is the week of the passion of christ (for eastern orthodoxy, it's a few weeks from now - different calendars)... "fully human, fully divine" goes the formula... seeing the way the tide was turning... perhaps even orchestrating events in jerusalem to meet precieved necessity of the suffering required of the prophecied "suffering servant" (a la _the passover plot)... knowing that the physical pain of the roman method of executing brigands and would-be messiahs, crucifixion, is "excruxiating" (go figure); and often convicted felons would writhe for days before exhaustion & asphyxiation did them in... this would be enough to cause all but the bravest to head for the hills... and he could have left the city... he was warned to stay away by his followers, who knew what had befallen the baptist, and who knew as well that jesus was angering the same powerful elite... (he had even given the treasurer, judas, special instructions to cooperate with the sanhedrin, & told where he would be going after the passover meal... to pray in the garden at gethsemane) powerful stuff, rich mythological resonance, capable of moving followers millenia after the events descibed in the surviving sketchy accounts... palm sunday maundy thursday good friday easter sunday and the wheel turns and the promises of old are made new and the dead god rises again shalom
...just an outsiders observation about the christian forum in general....this forum is far more hostile/angery than any other forum in the spirituality/philosophy area(or even all of hipforums). and in almost all of the angry posts fingers are pointing out the faults in others. just bringing that to your attention, as i found this interesting. so i pose the question...why does it seem, in general, christians are more defensive/hostile/closed off when debating religion??? "A true Christian believes in the Lord until death" why...is it a sin for a christian to question their beliefs??? a sin to change with growth and adopt a different set of beliefs that better suits them as individuals??? one dosent have to be christian to know god...one only needs pure intentions in his heart.
If you look at it, it's often the case that people come to this forum simply to flame Christians. Many threads are started only for that purpose. Maybe that's partly why this forum is the way it is. Often, so called discussion degenerates quickly into mutual insults and so on. But perhaps all this 'finger pointing at the faults of others' comes from the fact that many who post here are very likely using the forum to excise personal demons. I mean they project their own failings. They think all people who believe in Jesus should be somehow morally perfect or else be blasted as hypocrites. They think that by attacking Christians, they are attacking God Himself perhaps....there are probably many reasons for 'Christian baiting'. When Christians react with anger and judgement though, that isn't really 'representing'. And it is true that some can be very narrow minded.
blackbill Jesus wasnt God, he was the human person of God. He had to suffer for the sins of the people. How would he suffer if God let him feel no pain? and he prayed in the woods because he was only like 33? soon to be arrested beaten and nailed to a cross. i think he was also making a last attempt to see if God could somehow take the burden off his shoulders.
you said Jesus should have been able to free himself from the cross if he was truly God yes? But he didnt have the power, god the father had the power. the son was just as human as anyone else.
okay... so let's all go watch martin scorcese's movie of nikos kazantzakis's _the last temptation of christ_ mmmmkay?
