I know exactly how you feel, I spent 6 years in the US Air force and although I’ve been out now for since 1999 (7 months shy of 20 years)
I get tired of hearing “Thank You for your Service” so i try not to bring up the subject.

The one point that you raised that was wrong was sprinklers. They would have made no difference at Grenfel, People just don't know how they work.
Grenfel would have required about 300 sprinkler heads, but people never realize that the pipework and pumps would only be sufficient to supply about 20 of them operating simultaneously. Sprinkler are designed on the assumption that apartments only catch on fire one at a time.
It is possible that they would have put the original fire out before the cladding caught, but even that was unlikely, since the fire started with an explosion when the environmentally friendly refrigerant in a domestic fridge (butane) exploded and the initial flash caught the curtains alight. I doubt that their would have been sufficient heat initially to rupture the trigger philes in the kitchen sprinkler head before it was too late.
Also, you need to remember that their have been several cladding fires over recent years, but all the others started outside the building. In the other cases, the cladding was correctly installed and the fire barriers contained them long enough for firefighters to put them out.
The Grenfel fire was caused criminal negligence at several levels. It is as simple as that.

I was shocked at the statistics that you mentioned about smoke poisoning. Here in the UK. we use BA sets a lot less than the US and we do not have the same problems.
It seems as if the US is long overdue some strict laws regarding materials used in construction and in furbishing fabrics,

PS, Don't bother researching Grenfel on Google. More than 90% of what you read will be complete rubbish.
The official report will consist of hundreds of pages of drivel written mainly by lawyers. The simple truth could be written by a competent architectural engineer on the back of a cigarette packet.
The solution to prevent future fires is even simpler..... "COMPLY WITH BUILDING REGULATIONS".

As a fairly new member, you may not have realized that although I have put my medical knowledge to use during quiet periods. My main field of work over the last 50 years has been designing theaters, cinemas and film studios in the UK.
I am a chartered engineer in both architectural design and heavy electrical engineering. On the latter, I have also run projects on the national grid, including nuclear power stations and a 12 year design project at Heathrow airport.
