King Blair is Gone! Long Live King Brown!

Did anybody notice a tear in his eyes as he said ''The End'' ?.

I have a feeling that lithium has hit the nail on the head - there will be no noticeable changes of policy.
BUT -
I think it will be articulated [spin if you like] in a differing manner and possibly the media will be less cynical and report it all in a different manner [again more spin if you like] - this will possibly appear to make the policys seem a lot more benign that when Blair was pushing through the same policys.

This will deffinitly not be the end of ''Spin''.
It is just not possible to end that.
If anybody knows if it is please explain it to me - cheers.

 

i agree with L.A.Matthews. Tony Blair was a very good leader in my eyes.
his only main downfall was the Iraq war and getting so intimately involved with Bush.

and Skip, DONT base your hate for Blair on his foreign policy alone. there's so much more to him then that. he had many successes in Britain, putting right a lot of the things the Conservative govenment ruined.

Fair point, but I honestly can't see how you can call Blair a fascist. I believe he's changed this country in a positive way immensely since the Torie's.

 

meh. i wouldn't take someone calling blair a fascist seriously, that's just one of those words people like to throw around, like comparisons to hitler. it's lazy arguing. but then, so is "quit looking at me and look at yourself" when that wasn't what the discussion was, anyway.

i have to say, i felt a little ZING when i read that, like "AHA! HAHAHAHAHA!! i was RIGHT. people are people anyway."

 

Well I'm sure it's difficult for Americans to comprehend just how bad the 17 year Conservative government was and how Blair really was a breath of fresh air. He did bring in some progressive, reforming policies such as the minimum wage and massive investment into the NHS - which was failing and which might well no longer exist had we had another Tory government. The real tragedy is that there never really was a radically progressive agenda since Blair sanitised anything vaguely socialist out of the Labour party between 94 and 97. So while there were positive aspects of Blairism in the early years compared to the alternative, New Labour turned out as just a continuation of Thatcherism with a few nods to progressive social justice. And I don't think you will find many people who post on these boards who would support Blair's foreign policy, particularly Iraq. An absolute unmitigated disaster in all respects.

That isn't called fascism at all! Fascism is a promotion of virulent nationalism, repression, racism, anti-communism, and restrictions on liberal individualism. Blair didn't do any of this, and nor is he a dictator (as most fascists are).

WOHAY BLIAR HAS GONE. IN COMES GORDON BROWN! I'm impressed with everything that Brown has said. I can't help but trust him. "My government is the British peoples'" and I believe every word he has said. He has also stated that there is going to be a quota on the amount of immigrants in so we should see a huge difference in the amount coming in. If they're not going to work then they aren't coming in! Gordon Brown has also stated that he'd like to see union jacks outside everyones gardens. Not that it will be compulsory but with that opinion and his backing of "Britishness" being taught and "British day" I think he is going to bring back patriotism to Britain.
