I had a few thoughts going over this thread...

    1) What musician doesn't buy songs, lyrics, beats and such from others?

    2) Since when did looks matter to a persons musical skill (or lack thereof)

    3) She has sold over ten million albums and over thirty-five million singles worldwide... how many have those who say she has no talents sold?

Makes so much difference to her music. Let's boycott her because she has a different kind of look.

    1) most real musicians don't. Being influenced is vastly different than having music made for you.

    2) since mtv

3)n sync has the best selling opening week of all time in the u.s. Doesn't mean they were talented.

I think you should do some research into your first statement there... Even the rolling stones have songs that were not theirs, especially at the beginning.

Oh yeah, mtv sure did make how the music sounded dependent on the looks... never again will it be about how the music sounds

And how did your opening week go?

I've had more interesting farts. I really think she is trying to hard

it's like she seems to think we had forgotten David Bowie, Madonna or Marilyn Manson existed.

You're making the logical fallacy of appealing to the person there Tom. If some one tells me 2 + 2 = 4, it doesn't matter if they finished high school or not, the truth of the statement is completely independent from the person who makes it.

the rolling stones still had to pick up all their instruments to cover those songs. They weren't given a pre recorded beat made by harry ballsack entirely on ableton.

Music doesn't have to be about looks but her schicht is clearly about as much about the looks as music. If you were to tell me she would be half as successful on her music alone you either have never seen what she does or are a moron.

Read xac's comment above about the error in logic you are making. You are also making another error in logic as well but I don't feel like taking the time to dig out a philosophy textbook. Point is just because n sync sold that much does not make them talented. Are you really going to try and justify that nsync should hold that spot over the beatles? Rolling stones? Pink floyd ? Led Zeppelin? Or even michael Jackson or prince? By your 'logic' nsync is more talented than any of these bands.

This isn't the 1970's. People will no longer pay for concert tickets to see someone stand motionless in front of a microphone, wearing a t-shirt and jeans. They expect much more. Competition is forcing greater extremes. There is no reason to hold this against the performers.

how is she "trying to hard"? aren't all performers supposed to put effort in whatever their goal is? "trying to hard" just doesnt make sense. She's putting much more effort into being what she wants to be as a performer than other singers. Most of the revenue she makes in concerts she puts back into the next concerts and into her outfits.
and just because there have been other performers to wear crazy outfits doesn't mean no one else can do the same. She's pronouncing herself as one of those artists, so how come everyone's opinion on her is so whack?
Plus she sings very well live. I think she's a genuinely great performer. that judgement is based on irregardlessnes towards "she looks ugly" or contrasting her to david bowie and such. and based on the effort she puts out, her talent, and her stance on things that seperate her from every other goddamn stupid performer out there.

And for the people that say her music isn't original, post which songs, or sounds (irrelevant but w/e) that are not original. Just curious to know which songs are making you say this.

No there is no logical falacy or error in logic in what I said.

My point was, this whole thread is about people who DON'T DO IT, trashing people who do.

On one hand you try to argue it takes talent to pick up a guitar and play someone elses song, but not to sing someone else's song?

The logic you are suggesting there is that it doesn't take any skill or talent to sing or do the actual performances.

At no point in time did I say that bigger numbers equal better talent. What I said is that they got up and did it, while you have not.
