Swimming nude was required at YMCA's years ago. The reason was the pool filtration system would get clogged with the fibers that shed from the suits of the day. To alleviate this issue suits were banned and men and boys commenced swimming nude. It wasn't until the Y opened the doors to women and swim wear changed that nude swimming was stopped. The last time, just a few years ago, I took a dip in the lake nude it was reported. Coming out of the water I had redonned my trunks but was still met by the local police. Nothing came of it other than not enjoying nude recreation of that kind since. Also there is nothing sexual about nude swimming other than the human body can be seen.

What's interesting is within the Pacific cultures it was often common practice to be in the water nude but just as soon as one hit dry land dry clothes were donned out of respect for royalty. Being seen in wet clothes would be a crime, punishable by death.
