This may come as a surprise to some, but I agree with you and find it disturbing that the REBEL FLAG remains popular with many Americans. Not only that but the Governor of Texas and other Southern politicians openly discuss seccession from the USA. Some of these people seem all too willing to refight the CIVIL WAR. I lived in Austin Texas for about 5 years. There is Austin, Texas and the rest of Texas.
Back in the 1970s when I lived in Austin, Texas there were: Nude beaches and nude swimming pools at many apartment complexes in Austin. But the rest of Texas was swarming with gun toting rednecks. That was a long time ago and I do NOT know what it is like in Texas at this time.
I recall one incident where some HISPANIC recently released from prison was in the habit of plinging beer cans off the fence in the home next door to me. I called the police to complain or report this. When I gave my address I was informed I lived outside the AUSTIN city limits and that there was no law against this outside of Austin. I moved out of there soon after all that. ...Oscar

Perhaps you think me a chickenshit. But, the reality is: I would end up in shoot it out with him and either win the gunfight and end up in a Texas prison or lose and end up dead. I felt no need to prove my manhood in a no win situation with some crazy guy who seemed determined to have it out with me in such a gunfight. Winning such a fight would end with me in prison and losing would make me dead. Most of that community was Hispanic and we all got along until this guy was released from prison and ended up living next door to me.
Also, this man`s mother came and talked to me. He had moved in with her and her daughter. She was his mother. She was upset with his at times daily shooting these beer cans off their fence. She explained to me the predicament she was in. By the way there were people who lived down range from his target practice. Like I said I saw it as a no win situation for me. I had NO help from the police. I was one of a very few white people in the neighborhood and what am I supposed to do ? Take him on and plead self defense if I win ? In my experience the courts do NOT readily embrace self defence even in non-lethal situations. I moved away and hope he did not harm any of my former neighbors.
