Life ain't easy... unemployment- sign of the times?

Because we dont all live in magical land. If you havnt noticed we are all from highly different areas all with their own problems and economy. Just because you cant think outside of your little town or city or wherever doesnt mean that other places with other employment issues dont exist. I dont think this is that hard of a concept...

i am not qualified for any special job. i have had one "real" job at best buy and i only have a high school degree. in the job market, i am a very common person. so YES, there are MANY other peope JUST LIKE ME that have the opportunity to apply to all the SAME FUCKING JOBS that i CAN APPLY TO

don't talk out your ass, i use to live in the fuckin ghetto of new haven and i'm on the computer now, don't tell me i don't know something about poverty. I've made sandwiches out of things that are fuckin unholy on bread because there was nothing else to eat in the house and we couldn't buy food. Yea this isn't Haiti, but there's a such thing as relative poverty. Your 18, ironically it's easier for an 18 year old to find a job because employers know they expect less then older people

And what jobs? The unemployment rate is 10%, the real unemployment rate is estimated to be more around 17%. Taking the first dead end min wage job that comes along is not good strategy

who the fuck are you? i understand relative poverty, but really - "relative poverty" in america is sooooo much more than people think. i have family that would fall off the short end of a stick of "relative poverty", yet they wouldnt consider themselves impoverished

taking the first job that comes along is a great strategy if you have no job at all...can you not work and still look for a better job? you are being very two-sided in your argument...

i highly doubt that dazed is living in poverty(correct me if i am wrong), and if she is i have even less respect for her (damn hard to do right now) for taking up as much time as she does on the internet bitching about not having a job...

i dont understand what you meant by your last post if you are arguing with me...your first post made sense and your second had a point but it wasnt relevant...point being that any common job that is available to me is not exclusively available to me...i dont have any privilege beyond what my SES, gender and race gives me...which IS a lot, but there are many more people just like me.

No, taking the first job is horrible strategy, especially if you're on unemployment considering it'll generally pay as much as a min wage or slightly above job would. Having a job makes it that much harder to find another job, this is the exact reason unemployment exists.

Especially someone who's 22, and if dazed went to college I'm assuming she has a degree or is about to get one. She's looking for a real job, not a fry cook. And guess what, nearly all job hunting takes place on the internet now. The unemployed don't spend all 18 hours they're awake looking for a job, you can only apply to so many jobs you can make the cut for in one day.

 

I do, and like any market it differs from place to place, to say that someone has the same opportunities in one country, or even city as someone else is a bit naive.

not much, my life has been better than it has been in a long while...in fact i havent even posted here regularly for a few months

i see your point in comparing unemployment vs min wage job, but dazed, are you even on unemployment? i dont think you are eligible if you just graduated - you have to have had a job first

But you are. You said that people on here have the same opportunities as you. Is everyone here in the same city? No. So yes. You are talking about different cities and in my case different countries. The job market is thouroughly collapsing, the euro in Greece is worth nothing at the moment. Spain, Portugal and Ireland are very close behind. The Euro economy is dying quickly. The job market here is gettting worse and worse. Maybe you have opportunities. Others dont.

No but you said that in reference to other posters. They dont belong to the same job market as you do, I havnt ignored your posts. That is the first post in which you said that you werent talking about "my" people.
