It's -9 degrees outside and my apartment's heater cannot keep up with the cold! I usually have it set to 70, but it can't seem to make it past 60. First world problem, I guess. I'm sitting on my sofa bundled up in 100 layers and sipping some hot hot coffee.

that will happen to furnaces under sized for the zone and home. its the new way of installing furnaces. they really dont foresee the temps going into single digits. it appears they missed that chapter in the book.. lets remember these are well educated engineers and installers that went to college .. you probably have a single stage furnace with not enough UMPH when it gets cold cold. usually these installations are almost correct. the predicted few days of single digits in your zone, they figure youll survive with a space heater for a few days and outside temps will get back to where the furnace will handle it. its suppose to save energy. meanwhile it cost more in the long run when one these cold spells sticks around for a while. its how the fire departments stay in business.

Any pointers for asking out a barista at Starbucks?

Shoulda done it today. Fack. I'm a regular so she knows what's up. Very cute, flirty look about her. Today she even came out from behind the counter and was talking to me for a minute, affectionately touching my arm before I left. So I think it's game on... but I'm also a puss, what can I say.

Haha. Of course... the signs are there though. I'm very well familiar with typical barista flirtyness that means nothing. This is different.

I'm thinking tomorrow if I can muster the courage I will ask her co-workers if she's single. If so maybe I'll do something super romantic. Surprise her. Leave something for her at work or some shit

    No portable electric heater?

Our upstairs system is a little undersized, but it doesn't matter because the master bedroom is downstairs.

Over-ruled by greedy contractors? That's what I heard.

I was questioning my own sanity for a while last night. I had tickets to an awesome concert, but it was up in the mountains, where the weather forecast wasn't much different from Chicago and Minneapolis. It had been a long time since I felt that kind of a wind chill factor, the kind that bites and stings and burns your flesh right through your thickest pair of jeans. I looked down one time to make sure they hadn't fallen off or something. I felt like I had on shorts.

Totally worth the pain though. The old man has still got it. Sings and plays like it's still 1973. From the looks of him, he probably won't live to do another tour, so I'm glad I didn't put off seeing him until some next time that may never come. All the old New Orleans legends are dying off.

OK, you beat the NC mountains last night, except maybe the peaks above 5000 feet where nobody lives.

:D Yeah, coming out from behind the counter was supposed to show you she was interested. Plus if she can do that (come out from behind) that tells me she has a little seniority there.

Ask her what kind of movies she likes, what kind of food she likes and/or if she likes to read. Of course, from those answers you can get your date set. :D

She may quite enjoy pouring lattes (or whatever) all day. ;) <----which means nothing except she could very possibly be happy in her work, which is a wonderful thing.

Let us know how this goes!
