I think in many decades time people might not eat meat. I'd hate not to eat white meat and fish and stuff. I'd hate not having "real protein" and food with "texture". And also vegetarian food tends to be shite.
"Contentedly pecking seed in the open countryside, free-range hens have carefree lives that their counterparts in battery farms can only dream about, or so it has long been believed. In fact, caged hens are no more stressed than those that roam free, researchers have discovered. Scientists measured corticosterone, a hormone produced in response to stress or fear, in eggs from free-range and caged hens. They found that the levels in both were very similar. Free-range hens suffer stresses that battery hens do not have to deal with, according to Jeff Downing, who led the research at Sydney University. "If they have no cover they are constantly in fear of attack by predators," he explained. "You can see it. A shadow comes over and they are completely startled". Free-range hens are prone to manure-borne diseases and parasites, that extreme temperatures are more stressful to hens than the method of their housing, and that caged hens have greater protection from both the elements and predators." http://www.willamette-egg.com/news/2008/01/29/hens-are-happy-battery-farms Thought that was interesting, but it is probably a lot of clap trap. Worth further investigation! "Various studies have shown that each system has strengths and weaknesses,.... Industry figures show that mortality continues to be significantly higher in free-range systems than in other systems" http://www.parliament.uk/commons/lib/research/briefings/snsc-01367.pdf As much as I dislike the way hens are caged, I appreciate welfare standards are high in the UK. Your link talks about Australia... I'm not so familiar with their welfare standards...but I'll endeavour to find out. The link does look like quite a bit of propoganda, though. Using old pictures is unfair...as it doesn't represent how conditions are now. Would that be allowed to occur now? "Each hen's floor area is only 450 cm squared, about 3/4 of the size of an A4 sheet of paper." That is correct, it seems (That's a fact ): http://www.rspca.org.au/campaign/choosewiselyfaq.asp (Australian) It is the same as the UK. The rest of the discription you gave - from the website - is emotional blackmail, imo. Thinking of an animal pottering about in only an A4 piece of paper is more than enough to get you thinking, imo. What is not natural about it? What can you say to that, really. I dislike emotive pictures like that, but it is part of the reality, I guess. You can just about see a more healthier looking one at the back... I'll have that one for my eggs. The good news: EUROPE'S AGRICULTURE ministers agreed yesterday (15 june 99) to end all battery egg production across the EU from 2012. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/eu-votes-to-end-battery-hen-farming-in-12-years-1100386.html I hope I have been fair?
Is that an invite to Oz?: Actually good vegetarian food tastes extremely good. And I really like tofu, soya ,salads etc. I used to worry about the lower protein because I weight train. But now I take supplements too- whey protein and vegetable protein... So maybe I could partly adjust but u don't see many veggies with muscles I've found...?
I'm not sure why you have replaced it with dots.... But, like I said. I don't hate anyone with that kind of point of view What's not natural about it? They live in a fucking cage. On mesh. Wire shit. They get their beaks cut off. They are left to die. Would this happen in the wild? Then again, would 'free range' chickens happen in the wild? Probably not. I think that thing about free range chickens being higher stressed is a load of bullshit. I knew a lady who kept chickens and they were lovely. And had their beaks AND their feathers. Eggs were bigger and nicer, too Lets agree to disagree, odey.
...Mebbe Bahah thanks Any food can taste good done right. I think a substantial percentage of athletes are vegetarians. Side note: Where are your pics?
That is slightly idiotic. Most athletes cannot be vegetarian due to the supplements they take and the diets they must maintain. There are few vegetarian athletes... and they are either faggot skaters or professional athletes who turned to this shit lifestyle at the end of their career.
