Yes, so many people are MISSING THE POINT of this event, because the MEDIA refuses to even report it. They would rather condemn the event, the organizers, the band and of course Al Gore himself, to protect their OWN business interests.

This is because the OLD MEDIA has the most to lose if the world takes steps to stop global warming. Their newspapers, which are already obsolete and unnecessary will suffer as they have a HUGE CARBON FOOTPRINT.

As I mentioned in another thread where everyone was bashing this event, at least now MILLIONS MORE PPL know what the fuck a Carbon Footprint is, and how our actions affect the ENTIRE PLANET.

So the true effects of this ENVIRONMENTAL SURGE, won't be felt immediately. The troops are still being gathered to fight this good fight. Over the next few months over a billion people will see this concert. People who didn't fly on airplanes to attend it, who didn't pay ANYTHING to see it.

People who will GET THE MESSAGE that we must change our lifestyles to accomodate FUTURE GENERATIONS of humans and all life forms.

That was the main GOAL of these concerts. Of course they couldn't possibly put on a totally carbon neutral event because NO ONE CAN, yet.

I'm sure if there's another one in the future it will showcase NEW TECHNOLOGY that would make it more ecologically sound. But this was the first, and thus it was stuck complying with existing technology to get its message across...

No, but they could have at least made an effort...and they didn't even do that.

Well, There are concerts just like these held almost everyday all over the globe. This time they only shared a common name, and had a camera pointed on 'm.
I watched for about 22 hours non stop, loved the whole event. I also watched and listened to most of the speakers gathered in Washington etc.
    It was a great event!
I too was hoping for some kind of big revelation, maybe bringing the electric car back to life for this event would have been a great idea... (have you all seen the Film "Who killed the electric car"? (you should, it's on google-video, look for it!)
It's a tad ironic that one of the main sponsors was Chevrolet.

allot has already been said, all the pro's & con's, but all in all, 070707 was a pretty good day on earth I guess...

Peace to you all, and rock on, ecologically;) !

    Here's what my spiritual and musical master Pete Townshend had to say about it;
    :sunglasse

    Live Earth

There are still a few news sources suggesting that The Who are playing a part in the Live Earth Festival. We are not, but this should not be taken as a rebuff, we know what the organizers are trying to achieve. We were not invited. We are playing at Roskilde in Denmark, and so have not had to do what most participants must have done, which is to work out how to balance the Ying against the Yang of the whole thing. Festivals are energy consuming, but at least they involve gatherings of large numbers of real people coming together in a common cause, with joy, humour and optimism.

In London change has been forced on us. Traffic Congestion charging is an extreme way to get people to travel on trains and buses. It seems to be working. Many more people are riding push-bikes to work as well. I am not soft. I can ride a bike with little effort, even at 62 years old. I do love my car, but I don't mind walking or riding a bike. Roger and the band have made several long journeys on this European tour by train. I often use the train from my home town to central London. Once, when I mentioned the wonder of our local train service to Mick Jagger in a documentary, the British press took the piss. Better I buy a Hybrid car? Better I keep my old one and use it less I think.

But you don't need Pop Stars telling you how to save the planet. Neither do you need news services telling you the uncaring, selfish Pete Townshend travels with seventy guitar cases. (I carry about fifteen). Exaggeration has always been my weakness. Seventy does sound better. It's just not true. But when the Live Earth events are cited in the same news services as producing as much carbon as Afghanistan, you can see how lazy web-'journalism' creates hysteria, anger and pointless jealousy. Someone else suggested we travel with 1,000 tons of equipment (this extrapolated from the earlier report that we had 1,000 cases). I think 1,000 tons might be the weight of a small aircraft carrier you chumps. We all want to do our bit. What about next tour we don't take the surface to air missiles?

edit: and as a human being who is sane and de-conditioned, i know that carbon dioxide isn't harmful (to say the least) to plant, animal, and human life.

    About right there Mr Townshend.

If anybody can find the BBC's ''carbon footprint'' that would be interesting to see.
They go on and on and on and on about it - bemoaning every tom dick and sally.
What is THEIR ''contribution'' to the destruction of the environment.
I'd say Jonathan Ross produces about 10 tons a day all by himself - that just coming out of his mouth.

I am in istanbul for the summer and i know that istanbul cancelled their portion of the live earth concerts because there wasnt enough support or government funding. plus, the elections for the new prime minister are this weekend so that causes a problem for it too. im very upset that they didnt hold up their part, but i heard the concert went pretty well. but i really do think that despite what some people say, such as well having this big concert with celebrities isnt going to help...my question to you is..WHAT WILL? if we cant get famous people--the people who the world looks at the most--who or what can we get to slap people in the face and tell them that this isnt just a government issue? its an issue for the entire world and if we dont all put our share in, then it wont happen. so many people think that they are just a little person and by recycling their bottles every week they cant make a difference...thats where they are wrong. recycle, ride your bike to places if its possible...save gas...dont drive huge HUMMERS...its really not that difficult. i dont know what it will take for the world to wake up and see that our world might just disintegrate sooner than we thought possible.

There are many arguements for and against climate change, and at the end of the day whether its true or not, the human race has destroyed alot of the earth's natural heritage, and the more we do to stop human activity that is doing this, the better.
Also, if and when the world has had enough of humans it will show us.

Still Attacking the messenger I see...

I'm gonna start banning those who attack the messenger, rather than address the issues. I think it'll be a good lesson. Just cause the MEDIA is being PAID to do exactly that, doesn't mean we need to HEAR THAT INDUSTRY PROPAGANDA on this site. I won't allow it.

Of COURSE EVERYONE, EVERY THING has a "carbon footprint". So fucking what?

At least some people are CONCERNED ABOUT IT.

Others only want to complain about those who are trying to raise everyone's consciousness about it.

You MUST RAISE CONSCIOUSNESS BEFORE ANYTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT on a global scale.

So QUIT attacking the messenger OR I WILL ATTACK YOU! Got it?

If I see one more post like this, I'm gonna ban all those with similar posts.

You are all saying EXACTLY the same thing, over and over - HIS CARBON FOOTPRINT IS BIG TOO, so we shouldn't listen to him... right?

    It just more...

    Baaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

from ppl who can't think for themselves.

I'd like to say I am NOT attacking the message.

Why should I NOT attack the messenger ?
If the BBC has a terrible record of addressing their ''carbon footprint'' we should all be aware of it.
The same way we should all be aware of their terrible editorial policies of late.
If they are saying WE should do something and they are not - that is hypocrisy.
We should be aware of their contribution to the desruction of the environment.

I edited my post to add reports of the BBCs environment report.

Check it out for your self.

I know this - I was not suggesting the BBC should be holier than though.

I AM concerned - just because the BBC put this on their network - does not mean they CARE or are that environmentaly freindly.
Judging by the links in my edit they DO care and they ARE concerned - it is up to you to decide if they ARE environmentaly freindly.

Who's [pardon the pun] ? Mr Townshend ? No i'm NOT saying ''HIS CARBON FOOTPRINT IS BIG TOO, so we shouldn't listen to him''.
Infact i'm saying the exact opposite about HIM.
I AM saying the BBCs FOOTPRINT IS BIG TOO, so we shouldn't listen to THEM.

People bemoan goverments for preaching http://www.dft.gov.uk/ActOnCO2/ .
People call THAT ''The Nanny state'' etc etc - so why should we listen to the BBC ?.
I understand a TV network such as the BBC would air the concert - I was not attempting to make a big deal out of it.
I was just commenting on them and raising a question.
    Nothing more.

what are you talking about skip ?.

Well if that's how you feel THEN DON'T LISTEN TO ANYONE, cause EVERYONE's carbon footprint is too big.

To help you understand this, since you obviously didn't understand a word I said previously, you are now banned...

Anyone else here think we SHOULDN'T LISTEN TO ANYONE WITH A BIG CARBON FOOTPRINT?

Let me know now, so I can reduce YOUR carbon footprint for you, too. :)

If you think ACC is about CO2 being "harmful to plant or animal life" then you quite clearly have no grasp of the basic facts...

Yes, there is NONSENSE propaganda being spread which has no scientific basis whatsoever. And those who buy it, and say things like that, only show their ignorance to those in the know...(ie: those who are 'hip' to what's REALLY happening).

Yes, come one and all and SHOW US YOUR IGNORANCE. It really restores our faith our humanity's capacity to deal with the problems it has created.

Here's what you can do to further impress us!

    1. Don't listen to ANYONE with ANY kind of Carbon Footprint, OK?

    2. Close your mind and go... la,la,la,la,la.....

That will be very impressive to everyone. We will regard you as having a FINE intelligence. Right up there with our president's!

    3. Tell everyone how CO2 is a "natural" occuring, harmless gas, so it can't possibly hurt even a fly. Therefore Global Warming is just a big conspiracy on the part of LIBERALS to make money from solar panels.

    4. Yup, Miss Corquscru, ya got it all figured out, I think you need to educate the 500 scientists who contributed to the UN's global warming report. You're WAY smarter than them, and should be given a BIG MEDAL!

Back to the Live Earth thing... Did anyone else go to any of the shows?
Perhaps it was just the UK show that wasn't very well thought out... I'm not saying that the shows were a bad idea or anything, but they could have made much more of an effort to promote the cause.

The only way to save the Earth is to destroy the human race. I therefore do urge EVERYBODY to KILL YOURSELF AND EVERYBODY AROUND YOU. Every dead body is an increase in the chance of this planet to survive.
