meaning is meaningless. two things matter: one is the gratification of creating and exploring. the other is to avoid screwing everything up for ourselves by doing so to each other, and to instead, if possible, contribute to the kind of world we live in being a better place with an increase in opportunities for harmless gratifications for everyone.
i have no clue what to ultimately do with my life but then i don't really care. i want to do a lot of different things so the lack of decision is probably a vaguely made one. i have a rich life regardless.
I think there is too much of an emphasis on defining your life through a career. Ideally, we would all find a career in which we're really passionate, something that doesn't feel like work at all because its so enjoyable. Some people are lucky enough to know what career suits them and pursue it in early adulthood. Most of us are not. In the end life is about what happens outside of work. Cultivate hobbies. Do things that make you happy. Sometimes you can get lucky and eventually turn a hobby into a career.
I pretty much have really liked every job I've had since high school. Having some kind of connection between your job and identity is only a bad gig if your job sucks.
i work to live, i do not live to work. my job is something that i do purely because it allows me to make a decent amount of money, which allows me to enjoy the things that matter to me. spending time with friends, reading, hiking, traveling, meeting new people. some are lucky and have a job they truly enjoy, and that is awesome, i would love that and i will at some point attempt to make it reality, but for now i don't mind working 40 hours/week to be able to enjoy the rest of my hours. a shitty job is sometimes only shitty because you let it be. I've started riding my bike to and from work, which I find makes me actually look forward to waking up and getting on my bike. I work alone in a warehouse, so most days I'm listening to an audiobook/podcast/university lecture while I work. it doesn't even seem like working most days, because I'm doing things I would be doing at home anyway. life is as enjoyable as you make it.
