i don't just like to think that.

    i do deeply believe that.

despite being intensely interested in the sciences, i believe that there is more to reality than the empirical, and believe that the spiritual is not necessarily seperate, but may not be studied in the same way.

spiritual experience is to science what outliers are to statistics. it simply doesnt count IN THOSE TERMS because it is not explainable in those terms.

it doesnt mean they don't exist or occur, we just are not able to come to grips with them unless we understand them from a different perspective.

it is said there are four general ways in which science and religion may interact. these are independence, conflict, dialogue, and integration.

independence is the idea that the two are fully seperate, and the one may not know the other.

conflict is the idea that science and spirituality are at odds with each other, and one must be superior to the other.

dialogue is the idea that they are seperate but equal, and should interact without trumping each other, as i understand it.

integration, on the other hand, means they are one and the same in nature, and it is simply our current mode of understanding them which seperates them. integrationists would say science leads us to spiritual implications, and religion leads us to scientific queries.

i would say i believe in integration.

So far from your posts that i have read i disagree with a lot of your opinions and i think you're an ass for telling me i have a particular issue after only two posts directed towards you.

Having said that, you're obviously a sharp one, welcome to RT.

it could even be said, as in the case of dennett, that a sense of god is biological and natural, and inherent to the majority of human beings.

if you are asking me, then i will answer as such: they are one and the same, with only minor distinctions. religion is institutionalized, spirituality is base and human, potentially individual.

Well honestly if we look at the possibilities we end up with one of those long words to explain the context something like "biopsychosociocultural"

It's nice to be able to discuss such things without worrying about my exam.

    same here :)

i would suggest following the link if you havent. if the video works for you, its quite thought provoking.

dennett is an atheist who believes in the value of, and promotes, religion. sort of the anti-dawkins.

even if you disagree with his ideas, it's fascinating.

the only thing that bothers me is his beard is slightly crooked:D

God is essentially no different a "void filler" than drugs. Neither will really allow you to see yourself for who you really are. God will distort that view by prohibiting a truthful unveiled look inward and drugs will act as a haze that surrounds the answers you're seeking. You don't even have to be "looking for answers", they're all around you. Take a walk outside, realize that you have your health, think about the loved ones in your life, contemplate the universe and what pertains to it.

If you turn to material things to find a peace of mind, then you're making the mistake of confusing pleasure for happiness. One is temporary and is the result of impulse, whereas the other is present due to one's consistently conscious state of mind.

Just as Marcus Aurelius said, "Life is opinion"...Start focusing on the positives rather than the negatives and perhaps the "good" that you get from that form of perceptive thought will fill this void you speak of. Everyone tries to fill that void, so if that void exists because you feel you're alone in the feeling, forget about it....that's being human.

    Jah Bless

    your post is ironically contradicting.

i disagree with the predominating sentiment, and appreciate the final statement to an extent.

Depends on your interpretation of the term "Jah"...I'm not Rastafarian, I do not believe Jah to be "god almighty", nor do I believe in a Christian notion of God. Nor a Islamic notion of Allah and so forth...If you knew me, you'd realize I commonly use multiple worldy used "labels" to refer to this energy that is present virtually everywhere.

Einstein stated it a while back E=mc2...Everything with energy has some form of matter, and everything with matter has some form of energy, seen or unseen. Naturally speed effects mass, which in turn changes the given amount of energy. Hence, energy is present everywhere we can conceive...as for the dark matter aspect of things...well it's still theoretically considered matter eh?

Of course a little is ok, i'd never expect anyone to have an original thought (honestly). :)

Jah, derived from Jahova, derived from Yahweh, Derived from YHWH. God at the burning bush "I AM THAT AM I".

Why would you use Abrahamic expressions of God if that is not what you're attempting to express? im not sure how it would help in terms of clarity.

As far as Einstein is concerned, im not entirely sure why you added that part.

    Toda.

Yea...I just got off my soap box a bit ago, I'll get back off it and stash it for a while. It was just an opinion on drugs in relation to life....take it as you may, I thought that was in large part why people converse...to exchange opinions?
