A BBC team says it has shown there is no such thing as the Loch Ness monster.
Using 600 separate sonar beams and satellite navigation technology to ensure that none of the loch was missed, the team surveyed the waters said to hide Scotland's legendary tourist attraction but found no trace of the monster.

You can't prove something doesn't exist by just not finding it ;)

I bought a birthday card the other day.
I said: "I bet there isn't any writing inside, and I'll have to think of something mushy to write in it."
My brother said: "I bet there is, and you'll be saved having to write anything in it."
I opened the card up, and low and behold, there was no writing in it.
It ruined my day but my case was proven.
    I looked and found nothing.
It would be a different matter if I was looking for something in space but the loch ness is a finite space I can probe.
    It's hardly a needle in a hay-stack.

Max. length 36.3 km (22.6 mi)
Max. width 2.7 km (1.7 mi)
    Surface area 56.4 km2 (21.8 sq mi)
    Average depth 132 m (433 ft)
    Max. depth 226.96 m (744.6 ft)
    Water volume 7.4 km3 (1.8 cu mi)
    Surface elevation 15.8 m (52 ft)

So there aren't any tunnels leading to underwater caverns it might have been hiding in then?

There is no evidence for that. It's an "A but..." that the local hoteliers like to add to their brochures. And we all know why.

You can't prove, but you can make a fairly conclusive observation that it likely doesn't exist by extensive research.

On the other hand, you can't logically assert the existence of something based on 400 year old stories. :sunny:

Because there's no other reason to visit Scotland in February?

Have you ever been there? Even without Nessie, the Loch is one of the most amazing places to visit.

Well... since there are many reports of it's existence and it does appear to be quite an elusive creature I think that add a substantial amount of uncertainty, don't you think?

Like if they never find the Higg's boson, that doesn't mean the Higg's boson doesn't actually exist. It may simply be that it somehow managed to escape our observation ;)

    I was being cynical.
I appreciate the area doesn't totally rely on the legend of Nessie

the reason I know Loch Ness is 100% real is that creepy as fuck picture from the 50s. You ever see that thing? I get goosebumps just thinking about it. As for the Great Ape Man Yeti, we will capture you and make you into a civilized man, as God as my witness.

The people who took that photo admitted it was a fraudulent photo taken by themselves. ;)

I saw a news article a while back with audio of a call to the cops from a mountain man regarding bigfoot.

He sounded very angry, and he wanted to know if it was against the law to shoot him. He said he was tired of him coming around and messing with his dogs. He said that he'd hit him with a stick (this time) to get him off his property, but next time he was going to shoot.

He was probably telling the truth

I mean just because he was intoxicated and had a history of mental illness doesn’t necessarily mean it was a fabrication [IMG]
