Why has it taken people this long to realise that if enough people take to the streets there isn't a great deal the police can do about it?

I've been saying this for years, the way things are going something like this will eventually happen.

Maybe it needs to happen, because people, especially the younger generations are fed up with having their rights stamped on and having every corner of their lives dictated to by the ruling classes.

Theresa May's holiday has been spoilt because of this. She's coming home early to consult with the police over the riots.

I read some of her report on the tories drugs strategy. Nothing you wouldn't expect to hear really, but she did like using the word 'holistic' which annoyed me. Dumb **** doesn't even know the meaning of the word. She thinks a panacea is a fixture for second homes that the ruling classes can claim on expenses.

After watching that Guardian clip, you gotta question the sense in closing down these youth clubs. At least they had something to do, and their parents knew where they were..

It's like anything that benefits the poor in society, you can guarantee the tories will come along and close it down.

Hearing reports of scuffles between rioters and the police in Hackney, but it's apparently died down and they've moved on somewhere else. Police have formed a riot line and currently have the situation under control, but it looks like there is going to be another night of rioting and looting.

 

Reports coming in of more shops being looted and burned, cars being set on fire in Hackney.

 

Let the good times roll!!! I like a good riot, it shares the pain around a bit. When you hear about stabbings and shootings and muggings you kind of go "aw that's a shame" but you don't understand the pain involved unless it has happened to you. Bringing the pain to people's doorsteps is a good way to make them understand, eventually they may even get off their arses and do something about it.

An interesting aside - Are all our senior politicians on holiday at the moment?!?!?!?! They've all gone away all at once, surely an irresponsible course of action? ANY company, office, school or whatever would not send all their senior staff off at once!

I can feel it coming... It may still be a year away from the big one but it's coming.

 

Yeah they are on holiday now, when they come back they will start preaching to us about global warming and how we should all use our cars less.

Boris Johnston is reported to be coming back from holiday early tomorrow.

Theresa May, who came back early, was on saying there is no excuse for violence- oh but they are happy to assist the rebels in Libya..

 

Also, I must say that the title of this thread is quite misinforming:

These are NOT race riots, they are riots led by the young, poor and downtrodden. Race has nothing to do with this.

 

How ironic life is .... Tottenham is our birthplace and we are in California eating ice cream - so glad we are not in the UK during this stressful time :2thumbsup:

The shooting of a black male by police was the spark.

Reports from eyewitnesses state that people of all nations were involved in the looting and rioting. There are people out there making statements against the cutting of their social services, closing of their youth clubs etc. Racial prejudice may be one of the issues involved but it is not the only one. Of course, it is the big issue that the media will pick up. God forbid that we should unite as a common cause.

Nice to know that CNN in America can give you more about my own country than I can glean.

 

I am watching white young people involved in this on the live feed.

The guy just said on the feed "Girls with Slavic accents, white people, black people, Asian people. Younger guys, some older."

I'm telling you, these aren't race riots. Just riots.

 

i can hear the sirens etc from where i am... it's going on both sides of me... everyone is staying in... some people are freaking out... people are just party robbin', for the sake of it... lots of pent up anger... all races...
