I am currently using the aussie 3 minute miracle as a conditioner for my long hair. I don't think it works any better than other conditioners. It does smell nice, though.

To keep my hair tame I get it trimmed about every 2 months or so. Long, dry hair gets split ends real easily (at least mine does) so those need to be trimmed off to make hair look instantly healthier. Also, I use a flattening iron on my hair and it always turns out silky smooth. Its probably not the best for my hair to use the iron, but oh well.

I've been doing this for 15 years with about a quarter bottle of conditioner topped with water. I add oils if unscented.

also, try hitting the beauty supply stores (with the list of bad stuff in hand) and see what they habe in gallons.
I picked up unscented conditioner cheap because "women want to smell good." said the owner, a man.

I'll use pretty much anything for shampoo, but my current favorite conditioner is Nature's Gate mandarin/patchouli high shine formula. I leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing. I use a bit of Burt's Bees avocado butter hair treatment on my hair right after I shower. It smells amazing and keeps it silky. Jojoba and olive oil are really great for deep conditioning, but i've heard even better things about coconut and carrot oil, both of which i've yet to try. I try not to blowdry my hair too often and i comb my hair really gently when i first get out of the shower. My hair grows pretty slow and trims do nothing for split ends since they seem to always be higher up, so i do something that i think i've heard called 'dusting'--just grabbing a lock of hair, holding it up to the light and trimming the split ends individually (it's not as tedious as it sounds!). As we speak, I have a mixture of the avocado butter treatment, some olive oil, and a big squeeze of this body lotion called 'zim's crack creme' in my hair (which i'll wash out later). I have no public obligations today so i thought i'd do something constructive/experimental for my hair while i'm being lazy. :)

there are several things you can do. i uesed swave and only every other day or every 3ed or so day. then i read somewhere if take 1 cup of viniger and 1 cup of water and mix. you use this to rince your hair. you can ues the whole thing or half or a thered (3ed). it is mostly for thoes who have olily hair. i does work and does not make your hair smell like viniger. a lady at work told me you can ues dish sope. like dawn or something that cuts greas. the dish sope works to i like it better than the shampoo. i only wash my hair every other or every 3ed day. the washing can damage your hair if done to offten. try to cut down on the times you brush it. brushing can damage your hair as well. you mite whant to invest in a come. the ones with big teeth, it took me sometime to get use too, put well worth the change. you need to wash your hair in as cold of water you can handel. the hot water damages it. i get mine cut about an haff in. or so every 3-4 mouths.

hopes this helps. love and misspellings apple seed.

Get a trim and use a leave in conditioner, or alternatively, whack some olive oil imn yur hair for an hour or two every few weeks to keep it looking good. just dont forget to get it all out.

I personally love tatty messed up almost dred hair, so thats how I keep mine. I brush it every few days / weeks

My hair gets like that every couple of years... give it a good trim and some hot oil treatment and it should be soft and un-knotted again

I use warmed olive oil with a banana mashed into it. The banana just makes it smell nice. I put in on my hair, and then leave it for a half an hour. I also use my regular conditioner as a leave in conditioner about once every two weeks. Put it on, sleep on it, and then rinse in out in the morning. Also, if your hair isn't all that oily, you really shouldn't wash it every day like most of the world seems to do. You are washing away the hairs natural oils. I only wash my hair once every 3-4 days.

I suggest just washing it, and (optionally) a conditioner, wash it with cold water, heat isn't good for hair, it damages it. All I do is wash mine, and my hair is very thick and full. Good luck with this. :)

I knew someone would bitch about something like that eventually.

Pantene kicks ass, I use it and its totally transformed my hair and at a reasonoble price.

Try using a treatment conditioner once a week, thats work wonders for my hair.

I use Dove's new 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner for normal hair. I wash it about every three days and so far it is pretty healthy. I am trying to frow it out from being shaved last year. So far it is just past my shoulders and doing just fine. :) I love Dove... it leaves no residue and is really gentle.

I wash my hair only about twice a week with a natural body soap (I use a sandalwood one from China) and use coconut oil as a leave-in conditioner. I also wet and oil my hair throughout the week to tame flyaways. When I use it as a leave-in conditioner, I make sure to get the scalp then comb it through to the ends; the oil does wonders for my dandruff. It looks a little oily for a while, but then it goes away. I don't use a whole lot to tame the flyaways so it only looks oily when I use it after shampooing.

thanks for all the help everyone. I've been trying to wash it less because it doesn't get very greasy and there isn't any need for me to be washing it so much. I also gave it a good trim and put olive oil on the bottom section for an hour before washing it out. It's looking alot happier now, feels nice and silky aswell.

Also (someone might be able to answer this for me), I've heard that if you don't wash your hair at all, after a few weeks/months it returns back to it's natural state and all the oils rebalance? I couldn't handle the months of it being so itchy and greasy but does anyone know if this is true? I'm feeling curious.

    xxxx

What I have heard about this (and, I've know some folks that only washed their hair every 6 months or so) is that, initially, the hair gets very oily, and then it re-absorbs the oil, and it keeps on cycling in this way. Whether that rebalances it or not, I don't know. I do know from knowing these folks that their hair didn't look very clean...when it wasn't oily looking, it looked very dull, and it smelled very strong...kept one of them from getting what would have been a very good job...hair was noticeably dirty and very smelly. Not knocking it, if that is what someone wants to do, but it can cause some problems, unfortunately.
