I think there's too many people who really like Pink Floyd while hardly knowing much about the band and its music. All of their songs' lyrics are protest songs in some form and are creatively multi-layered. I like Pink Floyd but almost only listen to them when I'm with other people. Their music is too slow and.... "generic" for my taste.
Really? You hate them? I didn't realise it was a pre requisite when liking a band that you had to like their entire catalogue. Guess I'm not as much of a Rolling Stones fan as I thought, since I don't listen to anything they did after 1978! People, you need to relax. Yes music is an amazing expression of creativity, but IT'S NOT THE WHOLE WORLD. The fact that somebody hasn't heard Bob Dylans 1979 basement, bootleg, limited edition of god knows what - doesn't mean they aren't allowed to be a Dylan fan! In other words - who cares what other people enjoy and listen to. Find something useful to get worked up about - starving children in Africa, etc.
no - but it's these people who may only know a bit and that's fine but walk around with their hair stood on end pretending to be punk. or those who buy up tickets to sell out shows and stand at the bar the whole performance only until the hit single comes on. this is true of floyd and hippies i 'like' floyd because i am supposed to equally i'm supposed to have a beard and dreads smoke dope and protest against the man. "hey you - why aren't you wearing any vintage you're so not as cool as me by the way like the floyd patch? my mum didn't sow it on my bag i promise" unk: they ruin it for the proper fans. i had 3x the cost of admission to a show last year because if got bought up by fucking idiots.
yeah... some floyd is alright. check this out, though: they haven't released an actual album in almost 20 years. do you have any idea how much music has been made since then? music that often surpasses anything floyd ever did... not gonna find it unless you look for it, though.

I remember my pink floyd phase. Never was a fan of anything after the wall. Julia Dream, Corporal Clegg, and Bike.. personal favorites. O yeah and the nile song... shit all of relics and piper. And saucer and especially meddle. Great... I see another pink floyd phase in my future
My weak understanding of hipsterism was that it was about liking obscure stuff that other people aren't into, as implied by the stereotypical phrase " I just bought this band's album, but you've probably never heard of them" but in this case it's " I'm a real fan because I like this album, but you've probably never heard of it" It's just an attitude I've always found very funny. First time I observed, it was Dead based and it had layers. First layer was the mocking of popular tunes " Don't they play that Casey Jones tune?" and the Second layer was "If you didn't know that Jerry wore shorts at Buffalo this year, you ain't a fan" It's really just amusing to watch how people elevate themselves over such arbitrary things. Just as in someway, how much it amuses me is my own self-elevation. Ain't human's interesting?
Pink Floyd is better as 2 separate entities.. Roger and David. The band together was manic depressive. David is High and Roger is Low.
i hate pink floyd fans that think they've really discovered something by listening to albums that are available to everyone in the world and are extremely popular. Pink floyd is old hat, they're good but who the fuck do you think you are for calling less experienced listeners obnoxious? they're probly busy listen to cooler music than you do.
My point exactly, but OP isn't intelligent enought to see this, and wants to feel like his taste in music makes him unique and special. :2thumbsup:
....except nothing surpasses Pink Floyd. I'm not saying that as some die hard fan. I don't really like Pink Floyd's earlier, more obscure Syd Barrett stuff. Many of the albums mentioned in this thread I've never heard. I like Roger Waters/David Gilmore era Pink Floyd. Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album and if that isn't obscure enough everyone can kiss my ass But the thing is, I can't think of a single band that surpasses Pink Floyd and I've listened to a lot of music. Their music was perfect.
