If there was truly nothing compelling it to go on, then it would not go on. There is a drive, a willingness to continue to exist in this state of a body breaking down nutrients in order to sustain itself, and that force is what life is essentially.
For any system to work, there must be something outside of that system acting upon it in some way.

sorry if I took it the wrong way, I've read a little, but I'll definitely look into him a bit more. =)

to me its a ridiculous perspective, but only because of my personal beliefs... not saying that its not possible, just saying that to me personally, it seems ridiculous.

    completely agree on that.

Everything is physical. Thats why both the mind and the brain are the same, because they are both a physical organ. To say the mind isn't physical is like saying the mind doesn't exist. For something to exist it has to be physical in the first place.

you are just arguing for the sake of arguing.

if i broke open your skull, i would be able to touch your brain. that means it is a tangible object. you could see it and touch it. i would not however be able to touch or see your mind or thoughts.

would you say that love and other emotions don't exist b/c they aren't physical

and here's the first definition that comes up if you google "define physical"
involving the body as distinguished from the mind or spirit
    meaning; NOT the mind

    i'm done

Can you touch a thought? Do thoughts exist?

No i am not argueing for that reason, i don't particularly enjoy argueing.
I get what you're saying now though. You could have said the mind is the perception of someone using the brain. Not really a big deal though you can say i use my brain to be smart or i use my mind to be smart they both mean the same thing.

Thoughts are just a product of the brain.

 (not directed at you but the situation in general)

Two people with diametrically opposed view points (you and Neodude) believe that if A is a product of B, A must be equivalent to B. I just don't understand this. The brain is a physical object that generates a nonphysical phenomenon (mind), through physical processes. Why must they be one in the same for this picture to work?

Ok I think we can make this work. We can all agree that the brain is physical, and the brain can be considered the same thing as the mind, also the mind can be considered the perception of the user of the brain. Anyone object with that?
Porkstock, that is uncalled for i do have a sense of humor but you seem to be negative towards me. We should all take into consideration what your fortune cookie says.

the brain is NOT THE SAME AS THE MIND

you are making it very difficult to not be negative

Lol alright well why don't we make it a simple disagreement and move on. Alot of people disagree and argueing in a situation like this gets nowhere ;)
