Buddha says... A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one another it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden. Buddha A good friend who points out mistakes and imperfections and rebukes evil is to be respected as if he reveals a secret of hidden treasure. Buddha
What really interested me when I quit smoking (2 months and 5 days ago, not a drag. fuck yeah bitches), was how much of the addiction was actually psychological: the physical withdrawal only lasts 3 days, and while it's very unpleasant, it's not even a FRACTION of the psychological withdrawal that lasts WAY longer. Basically, what I realized, is while there was the physical discomfort of "being without nicotine", the thought process of "hmm I feel bad, I should smoke a cigarette" is COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT of the physical discomfort. The last few months I've just been able to sit back and watch that "hmm I feel bad, I should smoke a cigarette" thought pattern pop up after various psychological triggers (eating, sex, masturbating, smoking pot, being around smokers, drinking, thinking about cigarettes, being in uncomfortable social situations, being stressed, pretty much ANYTHING would trigger that "hmm I feel bad, I should smoke" thought for the first month or so). The physical withdrawal is easy, but I'll tell you the psychological part is what makes it hard. Today I went until about 30 mins ago without thinking about cigarettes though (that's a VERY good thing), it's taken me 2 months of hell to get to this point
you really think buddha never ever did anything ever remotely considered not perfect? he was a human being. if you consider jesus on his level, this look at him beating up the money lenders in the temple. part of the unity of being is that your flaws, your anger, your depression, your delusions, these as well are an integral part of your godhead. people, especially on this forum, think that its all about the rosy stuff, and they obsess about the ying, and forget that there's that little thing called yang in there too, just as important. rage, jealousy, violence, ignorance . . . these as well are dark obsidian lotus jewels of the cosmos, as sacred as the highest form of love you can imagine. it is the everything which is to be embraced. THIS IS NOT "DO ANYTHING YOU WANT". This is "Do what you want, and whatever you do, that is the way it is."
doesnt matter what some hairless monkey speaking english calls it its an expression of that which is, everything is, everything is welcome, nothing is turned away at the gateless gate. itsallgood: buddha didnt perfect his mind, because all minds are already perfect. you cant make them perfect, you can only have the realization that your mind, right now, as it is, is perfect. It is exactly what the universe has culminated with. unless youre speaking of just the mental exercize of meditation, which again, is an exercize, and theres no such thing as perfecting an exercize, you can just get really good at it, relatively.
Gandhi says... A principle is the expression of perfection, and as imperfect beings like us cannot practise perfection, we devise every moment limits of its compromise in practice. Mohandas Gandhi
nah I dig it. I guess it was off-topic if you compare only the first few posts to Writer's post, but it seemed like it aligned to the succession of ideas. maybe the concepts are more sweeping than the original MJ, cig points, but they still apply I think :cheers2:
i think we can be perfect beings. alot of people are just a long way off. the limits we devise are of our own making, and thus controllable. there don't need to be limits at all. walking around the past few days i feel overwhelmed by the incredible lowness of the human condition. it seems as if no one is awake, they are all just drifting along, clueless. the ones that are somewhat awake just get confused and misconstrue the truth, leading them to a false sense of truth and premature enlightenment. "Every human being is the author of his or her own health or disease." "All that we are is a result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him." "The thought manifests as the word. The word manifests as the deed. The deed develops into habit. And the habit hardens into charachter. So watch the thought and its ways with care. And let it spring from love, born out of concern for all beings." "If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly our whole life would change." -The Buddha P.S. whats up with all the buddha quotes lately anyway hawaii? We are all imperfect beings, but our imperfections are only as clothes to protect us while they are needed. In time they will shed away giving way to the light of our true being. -me
