    That's almost insulting.

"Hey, grown men fighting war half the planet away from your friends and families, here's a fat santa man to give you some presents..."

whats more is the truth Santa had said in that story told there.... Many soldiers/veterans will go to sleep in empty homes with little heating, have to have meals at the VFW< often where I have holiday meals.

Santa didnt come to Iraq with an escort like the WWE

this was westernized culture thrown right in the face of a country that has Islamic modesty law..
Muslims are used to santa clause.. They are not used to scantly cad women wrestlers .. or dudes or whatever these people do for a living.

I think Santa Claus is a ploy to indoctrinate kids into religion. God and Santa both look the same (From a Western perspective) that is they are depicted as old men with white beards. The 'nice' and 'naughty' list is like the 'hell' and 'heaven' judgment of God. Elves are like the angels. The only difference is that God doesn't make toys or has reindeer. I would let kids figure out the truth for themselves. But I still don't like the religious parallel and the fact that Santa was invented by the Coca-Cola company in order to get people to buy their product. Christmas was also a tool used by the Catholic Church to try to banish the Pagan winter celebrations. Sorry if this offends any Christians but it seems like there is no clear separation between consumerism and belief in the celebration of Christmas. I don't look down on people who celebrate it, its their business and a nice treat for children but I just don't like the whole mythos and hidden purpose behind it.

I can't decide about this one, but I lean towards no.

I only fully believed for a couple years, then I pretty much put it together that he wasn't real from TV and Christmas movies by about 6 or 7.

I don't see how knowing that he isn't real will ruin the fun. But I do see how teaching children to believe in fairy tales can be damaging.
I still struggle with my atheism after learning about heaven and miracles.

I think our world would be a lot less fucked up if more children believed in fairy tales. Instead we are taught to believe in absolutely nothing.

Lie about Santa? What did he do?

    Nah, lame.

But dood. I learned Santa was a fantasy a little earlier than most kids, and I was a little bitch sadistic fuck in the 2nd grade, and I told my best friend that Santa wasn't real. Man I can sort of remember the conflict that ensued. The teacher definitely yelled at me. It definitely also was like, Jesus is real!

Edited I also learned Santa wasn't real at that point, because I asked a very important question. "Why doesn't Santa give presents to poor people?" I think that was for the most part because our Church had a present program like Toys for Tots. Plus it just didn't add up, I was told growing up that poor children had very few things, probably for me to be more grateful. You know how moms are and their feelings if they are appreciated or not. Man, my mom would really wreck herself over it sometimes, I had a very emotionally unstable childhood, but damn looking back me and my sister were happy, but we weren't necessarily grateful in the way our mom wanted to be. But I gotta say she really couldn't grasp the whole idea of being supportive of her kids, until much latter and after all the stress from her life of work piled too high, and first there was my sister who was completely straight edge but bad enough for my mom to threaten me not to be like her, and then teenager Brendon came along, boy was that a smack in her face. Life with her has been 100% different since my being a hella mess of a different drug influenced shit.

There was no santa on the Death Star in 1977.(making me 7yr old). I believe it was then, though you cant raise your kids on Star War and send them to a catholic school either..

    Sadly, this is true...

and our children are both directly and indirectly lied to about so much more- through education- especially history... also pop culture- advertisements, television news. Worse, they are conditioned to lie to themselves as they hit adulthood believing that the shortest path to happiness is a big bank account then immersed in a culture that exacts needless measures of money in chasing fads fashions that are purposefully short lived.

Seems like a little harmless fib that most children are mentally capable of debunking but choose not to may indicate some marginal "need" to believe in something that isn't real. This need has worked quite well in man's desire to take something as ure as spirituality and corrupting it by creating organized religion and using it as a tool of mass (pun intended) manipulated.

Let 'em believe while their young enough to not have to bear the usual load of everyday stresses that suck soul out of life-- something that most likely awaits them at some point when they figure out just about everything they're taught to believe about their country turns out to be USDA fairy tale grade BULLSHIT..

Does anyone here know how you get someone used to something?

It's not a secret... Its been known for a very long time....

The human mind is an amazing thing. It can accept just about anything if given some time to adjust to it. Put a city person in a barn and they will go on for hours about how much it smells... After a week, they wont even notice it...

It is no different then lying...

When your child comes to you and lies, do you reward them? Do you tell them that its a great thing they just did? Or do you tell them why they shouldn't lie?

I know a lot of you are stuck on this idea that its just a fun happy lie...

    ITS A FUCKING LIE

You tell your child on one hand to tell the truth and on the other you lie to them... But hey, its okay, its for a good cause...

How much would any of you like to bet that Bush thinks it was a good idea to lie to the world about weapons of mass destruction?

But hey, each to their own... just keep this conversation in mind as your children grow up and you find yourself asking questions like, "why would they lie to me like that?".

If it gets my kids to behave without me having to kick some ass then sure.

Naw, I won't hit my kids. Santa Claus is real though. He doesn't fly around of course but he has a charity type thing in Finland with midgets and all! My parents set up a telephone network for him about twelve years ago, the children could call him and ask for a present and he would send it :) I think that's really nice. I actually met him as well! I didn't believe it so I tugged on his beard and it was real. An amazing beard as well. Santa is a part of Christmas and Christmas is the best time of year in my eyes. Everyone is so fucking jolly! Even the people who aren't are blocked out by either snow or inflatable Santas :p

My parents only used to drink half the milk and eat half a cookie. They told me it was because Santa had way too many cookies already :(

Also, are you saying you were supporting drinking and reindeer flying? :elf:
