MissF, I'm probably gonna get beat for this, but your replies each have a hint of questioning the intelligence of believers. Little kids believeing in Santa doesn't mean that they are stupid. Is that what you are getting at? Epiphany....if you are keeping away from Santa due to religious reasons, fine. But don't belittle other people's traditions by saying we lie to our children. We do not celebrate Christmas as "Jesus' birthday".......it's a family time for us. I've never heard of anyone "having to explain later"...the kids will figure it out long before....it's just for fun.
Sure, the kids believe in Santa. I make sure I remind them often that Christmas is also about giving. I encourage them to donate a few dollars to the Salvation Army at the stores, go through their toy boxes and donate soem of their toys to some kids who don't have that many, I also help them pick out clothes that are too small. My son has got the hang of it and wants to give away his toys a lot. He even picked a few toys to give his dadbecause he didn't wnat his dad to have no gifts on Christmas. Isn't that what the purpose of having a Santa? I believe when the kids see a story about Santa, they then see a man who is so willing to give so much to make children happy and they learn that from him. There is a lesson in everything in life. Sure, the world is fucked up. What is wrong with letting children enjoy their imaginations? I am sure children are affected by the fucked up world in some ways and it would be a comforting place for them to go to, their imaginations. I think parents have a right to raise their children in their own ways so I will just say each to his/her own.
Oh, I don't call it lying to your children, I call it having an imagination with your children. My daughter believes in fairy tales, princess stuff. She hasn't asked me if they were real or not so should I pop her bubble and tell her that nothing is real? She is 3 BTW.
that's cool. i'm totally okay with that. just don't get down on us who do enjoy this particular family tradition. i don't really consider xmas christ's birthday, and i prefer not to fight the rest of the world's materialistic take on xmas. therefore having a santa and some elves suits me better.
are you fucking serious? you think that, as an grown woman, I think children that believe in Santa are stupid? getdafucouttahere that post was about my childhood and yes, when I was a kid I thought kids that believed in Santa were stupid but maybe that was because...... ummmm, I don't know....... I WAS 9! I don't see anything wrong with parents that let their children believe in Santa Claus. Its a personal choice. And for me and my family, we don't do Santa. point blank how is it that you people tend to miss my point all the time?
I don't see any "you people" around here. I just asked a question. If you don't want your kids to have that particular tradition, that's your business. No one asked you to. Most people are open to discussing their posts.
I knew there was no santa by nine, but I didnt let on cuase I figured out that it was the only present I knew I would get, if I only asked santa for one thing and nothing outrageous. thats how I got my ventriliquist dummy!!!!( picked straight from the sears catologe to make it easy for santa)
by you people I meant everybody on the forums everybody is always misinterpreting what I say And, yeah, you did just ask a question. I just happen to think it was a stupid one
aw, i'm so sad to see daisy and miissF not getting along. two of my favorite sarcastic people left here.
