Mainstream Metal/Scene Metal

While I do somewhat agree on the Slipknot thing, I don't think its the fact that they combine influences to make music that people don't like, its the riffs and the lyrics and the whole image they put off. Like honestly, why the FUCK do they need 9 members? They have horrible and generic riffs also, which is another reason I don't like them. I have no idea how they got so popular. Its fun music but it gets really boring after a while. Metalheads shouldn't embrace the fact that Slipknot is making metal more popular again, because it ISN'T. Its making nu-metal more popular, and leaving the underground and actually good metal bands in the dust.

And as for JFAC, I personally don't like them because they think they can come into the metal world, playing some deathcore bullshit to get popular and then just go release a sub-par death metal album. They are giving people a view on what metal isn't, while real metal bands(not saying JFAC isn't metal) work their ass off for very little rewards. Thats why I like Behemoth. They are very popular, and yet they haven't belittled themselves to playing shit music and spreading the message of metal all over the world.

I fucking love everything Behemoth has put out. While they changed styles, they still put forth the effort that they put in through every single album. The difference between them and say a band like Dimmu Borgir is that when they changed, they wrote boring riffs, over produced bullshit, and shitty lyrics. Behemoth still writes amazing riffs, with great production, and great lyrics.

In a response to Obdurate: I don't used nu metal as an insult or call Slipknot less artistic just because I don't like them. I said a band that plays a convention style very well doesn't have to be less artistic, because when a band breaths such a style while at the same time has the groove going ànd this without sounding like any former song in that style.. well man, that's what I dig. If I'm in an uninspired angry doodling mood I automatically come up with some Slipknot-stylish tune Personally I just don't like the nu metal sound and I don't like Slipknot neither. I can't help it nor do I want to but I've done with bashing stuff I don't like for around a decade or so

I also agree with Stonertower's Slipknot post. Metal is a very large thing. Som genres I dig, some I strongly dislike. Why should I be glad that a genre that happens to also fit in the metal corner but that I utterly dislike becomes popular? For the sake of metal?
Also, I find it more important that a band plays what they like and want and keep on doing that, wether or not they may fall in the underground or mainstream section.

 

Slipknot has some catchy tunes, but I have absolutely no respect for them as artists. Stone Sour seems more genuine to me.

He put it on and I'm like "what the hell is this bullshit". What a dissapointment. Oh well there's tons of other songs to go around I guess.
