Itchy scalp, no love for the dread babies today :(
I'm a week before they turn 2 months though.
My cat keeps attacking them in bed too, and the toddlers fond of them.

On a brighter note, I have some awesome shapes, and most of them are starting to lock more and look more dread-like. My confidence was majorrrrrrly lifted when a random asked if I was growing dreads and then was asking advice on how to get started because he was interested..I was just stunned that someone noticed that they were growing dread babies and not just weird birds nest frizz :D and also he was going to use wax and alsorts which he's now not & is gunna neglect!

I will post photos. after I take some. I have about 5 'favourites' :D

:)Cool, I'm sure there's something that can be done about the itchy scalp though.

Itchy scalp can be cured by a good ol' scratchin!! I give my scalp a good going over in the shower, gets the ol' lathering going and it feels gooooooooood :D

When you have normal hair, your scalp i sused to regular brushing ( for longer hair) and lots of handling. With dreads, as access is limited and there is no brushing, the scalp doesn't get the scatching it needs, so it gets itchy. It's saying " LOVE MMEEEEE"

So give it some lovin' in the shower and it'll be grateful for it :D

.....Of course if an itchy scalp is combined with dandruff, you may have to alter your shampoo and washing regime. Less shampoo and less often is a good rule. Or try a different shampoo/soap all together :)

What soap do you use normally? I used to use bicarb only once every few months if they started to feel a little less fresh(?)/soft. I'd just decide it was time to do it and I'd soak them in bicarb water for about 30 mins then wash normally.

I follow this regime now http://lazydreads.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/washing-dreadlocks.html and I can't remember the last time I used bicarb. I use very little soap, a bottle will last me 6 months or more. I've had some dandruff recently so I've altered my steps to include a small amount of Head+Shoulders onto just my scalp before continuing with the rest of my washing steps. Maybe you're using too much bicarb and it's making your scalp dry? But I normally only really suffer with itchyness when I break my routine. If I'm used to washing every 2-3 days and go any longer = itchyness.

I either use bicarb mixed with water (occasionally a few drops of tea tree oil but I smashed the bottle a few weeks back and I'm too lazy to get more lols)... Or I just use water but give my scalp an extra good scrub. I've never had dandruff or itchy/dry scalp before so it feels weird!!

Was thinking of getting Dr bronners or a dread shampoo but I hear mixed stories about them and I don't want to screw my dreads :p

I wash them every 2-4 days depending on what I'm doing that week, Its averagely twice a week :)

I've only reviewed a few soaps because once I found what works for me I didn't see the need in experimenting further. Bronners in both liquid and bar form are popular with quite a few members here. I've used both and think they're fine. They smell nice, but are quite strong so the bar soap hurts my eyes. I've been using Dreadhead HQs liquid soap for years. I've read that it's just a re-bottled anti-irritant shampoo, but I use so little of it that I don't really mind. As I said, this bottle has lasted me atleast 6 months and it's got a good way left to go, so I'm almost just washing with water, but I just prefer having the shampoo bubbles ^^. Oh, but I would go so far as to therefore recommend anything else Dreadhead HQ sells, they have that awful youtube guy and they sell waxes and all sorts of other junk. But their soap - works for me.

I think they're a really cool colour. I don't know, it's like they could be really messy and chaotic but still look cool because they're all nice colours.

Thanks, I love the colour right now, its not permanent though so every time I wash them I get sad watching the dye run out lol. Im gunna probably wait until theyve matured a bit until I dye a permanent colour because I'll need to bleach this red out because even though its not permanent the colour always stays reddy after. I want purple :D

Also, i washed tonight, left the bicarb in for about ten mins and scrubbed and scratched my scalp loads abd it feels waaaaaay better :D

You have to bleach to go from red to purple? Surely if you dye purple over red you'll get get a more red-purple. Or you can dye blue over the red for purple without having to bleach it?

I love your dreads, sometimes I wish mine were a lot longer. Also you don't have to bleach your hair if you want purple. If you use a good purple dye then it should go over the red. Unless you want a deeper brighter purple then I guess bleaching is ok.

My hair is like a sponge, and colour always comes out darker than it should, like if I dye it brown it goes black, might go purple but bleach the ends so they go brighter, I have that right now, the ends are lighter than the main bit. Still gunna wait a while though I think :)

I figured dying dreads would be tricky. I've never dyed mine, they just had some dye left in there when I started. My hair is really thick to begin with so uses up a lot of dye, but I figured for dreads I'd probably need double dye on top of that.

Bleaching the tips before you dye sounds cool though, have some transition of colour. But I think I like the red, I think it just goes cool with your nose and ear piercings.

Yeah, I'm staying red for now, I want to let it wash out so it looks more natural, because i have face piercings (eyebrows done too I just dont have a bar in right now), ear piercings tounge piercing and tattoos so I'm quite obviously 'modified' lol I'd like a bit of natural for a change :) but I'll definitely go purple soonish, I've been red for years now, just different shades!
