Im really upset, already brushed two out, it looks and feels so weird and the hair ive lost could make a whole new dread lol. I love brighton, my step sis goes to uni there and my mum literally hoards things from the lanes.. if only london was more like that, camden is and some areas but ill be working in central where everyones all posh in suits and ties :( ...I am hoping I will become their favourite employee and convince them dreads are awesome lol. Its more of a health and safety thing though, as well as presentation, at the interview they said I looked too 'messy' and had to get rid of the dreads :(

Most tattoos will be covered by clothes, I dont think they minded too much or even noticed and I can take my facial piercings out, I only had a small nose stud in during the interview which is a pretty common piercing. I took my eyebrow piercing out a few weeks ago because it was getting caught in my dreads.

My dreads were very messy though, even when up and clipped back

would you rather have dreads an no job? or no dreads and money?

im lucky, ive never had a problem. i think some of my prev bosses havent liked my hair, but they never said anything to me about it / knew id kick their arse if they did / couldnt do shit to make me take them out, i was just never allowed to dye them bright colours. im also lucky - i had a bar job interview and i had bright pink hair at the time, asked my boss-to-be if it was a problem and he just laughed and was like nah, its a student bar, we've seen worse :D

soooooooooo you gatta weigh up the pros n cons. hair grows back, maybe it just wasnt the right time. maybe the right time will come again in the future. maybe youll spend a month in this job and realise you hate it and quit. who knows? hair grows back, dreads can be reborn, dyes can be purchased etc.

still sucks though, i quite agree

Need the money, and this job is something ive been trying to get into for a long time, Ive spent the past year volunteering so i could get experience as its needed in the job.

I have future dread plans already :D always be a dreadie at heart. The only good thing about having soft hair again will be being able to do my medieval hair styles again!

Ive brushed (well hand picked out) 5 of 33 so far, ita taken ages but no rush, my hair is still in really good condition (minus the fluff that keeps falling out lol) and it looks weird right now as the length has gone back to almost waist length yet the rest of my hair thats still dreaded is ranging between boob and shoulder length lol. Just trying to make it a positive thing rather than neg, ive wanted dreads all my life and i am so so upset i couldnt even have them for a year! But, im only 20, plenty more dread time left in my life ;)

Feels so weird that a dread that was ear length is now almost waist length lol!! Im hoping to be done by wednesday so i dont look weird at work with half dreads half not but theres no rush, this job starts at the end of may but I knew if I held off brushing then 1- they would mature more and make it harder and 2- I would resent doing it even more!

:( That is lame I was so looking forward to how your dreads looked... Oh well hair is hair one day you will be able to dread them again if you so wish. I know how you feel I brush 3 of my dreads out to get fuller bangs and it was SOOO long. I also have a bunch of loose hairs that are twice as long than my dreads. May sound weird but you could always use the loose fluff that falls out and make dreads out of those haha.

could you keep the underneath layers dreaded? and then when you comb out the dreads of the upper layers, your hair could be styled in a way to hide the remaining dreads?

or that could be a temporary thing while you finish combing them all out..

Thats the plan, doing the sides first then on to the back but i will need help with that probably so i doubt itll get done. Might even get away with keeping some dreads if I manage to have them covered :D

This is so much effort. Only done 10 out of 33 and I just keep putting it off. Right now I have 20+ dreads at the back of my head and then soft hair either side. It looks cool if I style it right but if I just leave it all down then I have waist length hair at the front and shoulder blade length dreads at the back :p

The dreads I still have are 9 months now.

I am actually liking the half and half look, doesnt look so bad if I style it right :D

Yes, that is a little feather.. I am just about to defeather my hair..
Funny really, the straight hair keeps trying to dread back up. Looks like I'd have a new set of dreads pretty quickly if I just left them..hmmmmm...

:( I am saddened that you have to comb out your dreads, but I hope soon you will be able to restart the process.

So dread set number two is in progress. Here is my undreaded hair thats been untouched other than a couple of braids I did for a protest a few days ago. Unbrushed for a while now. And my remaining dreads at the back :)

Thinking of either just leaving it completely or maybe backcombing a little bit to add sections, but id only do that by the roots.

So annoyed, made to brush then halfway through I find out the job isn't mine anymore! Luckily got a new job and the boss said he doesnt care less what I look like. My sister works there too and has bright pink hair so yay!!
