My mom was the gentle one and my dad was the one with the temper. Lol. I don't have a temper at all, hard to get it to rear up. I think my words without the inflections of a tone might be read as as harsh. But my tone really is not. :). I have been told I even sound happy when I swear and am upset. Lol. Sing song voice some have said... soothing. Lol

By the way, win what? :). Is there a contest?

Wins what? nothing.....but passionate anger vs. quiet love is in conflict sometimes......both have their place, though.
I only lash out with words though, never with fists.

Thank you for bringing this up. Because treatment of women in the Islamic world has always been an issue western feminists are always hush hush about.

Well if these protestors actually showed up for work today, maybe they'll be making as much as their male coworkers today

Some sad posts in here. You came out of a women and that women could have easily left you in a dumpster. Instead she took care of your helpless ass. I'm all for men rights and will admit women can be crazy but you guys are so full of hate and pathetic.

Women are afraid right now and they should be. We need them in society.

Sometimes there are valid reasons to go on strike. How is today a valid reason?

What should we be afraid of?

I exercised the rights given to me by my foremothers and made the choice to come into work and be a productive member of society. You know, like what we fought for over the last century.

Based on the Mission Statement to this Women's Strike thing, I'm not sure how it's motives seem any less discriminatory than what the majority of people seem pissed off at Trump about for?

The mission statement from the organization? comes off as scolding, condescending, and intolerant.

What I can't get over is how often I keep hearing this sort of thing presented as if we have made zero progress, like nothing has changed at all. And that's bullshit. In my own narrow lifespan I have seen progress as well as regression. I know of very few women who fit the description of a June Cleaver type housewife. Going back to the 60s most of the women I have known worked and had careers. Both of my grandmothers did. And if you think about it, most of the men in the US do not have control over women at all, that's a chauvinistic fantasy. It's on par with assuming most men are rapists because most rapists are men.

For my own part, I put my wife through college twice. Not because I wanted her to support me, but because women generally outlive men and I wanted her to be absolutely independent if I got taken out. Which was always a possibility when I was working in developing nations (where the oppression of women is a stark contrast to the claims made about the western world). My wife and I are a team, we don't subscribe to dominant and submissive roles. I can't imagine thinking like that and I personally don't see much of it, even in rural Georgia.

I think all of this divisive shit is getting old. If I was to surrender to the organizers of so many recent events I should accept being hated by women and minorities as if it was normal. It's not. Hate isn't normal, it's extreme. People who push this kind of division are extremists and most of them don't seem to know happiness at all. What else explains the hair-trigger reaction to casual conversation? Are we all to walk on eggshells because everyone is so sensitive? Good luck with that in the real world.

Most of the problems we have in the US are class-based. We have a wealthy class that runs everything and a working class that generates the revenue and a lower class that sits around thinking up new shit to gripe about while living on the dole or their family. I don't respect gender-based protests any more than I'd respect a movement of protest initiated on the basis of eye color. What I think people should do more is study up on the organizers of these events and see how their cause is being hijacked. It's like reading union literature, just count how many times they use the word "fight".

Do you fully realize what you're saying with this? Because it runs counter to the point of the protest in a most hideous way. After all, it's not men leaving newborns in dumpsters and toilets.

You mean all those millions of women who did not show up for work and did not provide child care for their children? This barely made the news let alone had numbers for support in this strike matter.

Even those who did show up for work would still have not made the same income today or any other day. The article also includes other countries and standings.

I won't pretend to speak on some of the far East Countries but I think that article highlights a lot of the things that make me somewhat skeptical about the so called "Wage Gap." There's this constantly dwindling of the statistical disparity, as they consider more variables. I think Christina Hoff Sommer presents a fairly nuanced view on the Wage Gap here, which if taken at face value, would suggest that the Wage Gap as generally presented is a myth.

    Look at that handsome beast!

I choose to identify as a woman today to virtue signa--- um I mean show solidarity. I'm undergoing a transition phase. I was told by my gender studies professor that gender is a social construct and we can ideintify as whoever or whatever we want. Today I'm a chick, tomorrow I'll be a leopard cat, Friday I might be an Apache attack helicopter. I thought it was crazy at first, but then I surrendered. As the saying goes, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

Thanks for posting that. Interesting that they even come up with a disparity of between 6.6 and 4.8-7. Given and I do agree that there can be other factors.

I have done HR for over 30 years for a company that has a ratio of about 80% professionals. It is an company that hires also on contract for foreign countries. Each professional designation have their own professional site that do salary. In most cases outside hires fall within the median of the scales even with specialities. My personal experience has been that the females hired fall still slightly below the males even with equal qualifications. The professionals I tended to deal with were from a traditionally male oriented field of study.

    Interesting stuff. :)
