You are right, the "feds" will save ALOT of money via the prison system by the legalization of marijuana. But its closer to 40k now a year per inmate that is spent in federal money. At the state level they will lose money. The money given to them by the feds for each inmate per year. This might account for some of the state politicians that are so against it being legalized. They see it as a loss of money in the polititions back pocket.
well here in MD theyre starting to charge inmates for thier time they spend in the penetentiarys..all goes county by county....anyway, if cops would start enforcing other more practical laws like say....i dont know....LITTERING laws, in many places its a $1,000 minimum fine for a piece of litter. now imagine how much money would be made if those laws were enforced a bit more....not to menion how much more clean the country would be. now imagine that, police actually doing thier job to protect and serve the community. y'know enforce laws that make our communities better places.
Nobody should be locked up for being addicted to drugs, period. It's not really a choice that people make, they are ADDICTED. They chose to start doing drugs, yes, but's it's not so easy to just decide to quit one day. Sending people to jail for being addicted to drugs is like punishing someone for eating. Try and stop somone from being obese. Afterall, they are abusing a substance too. Obesity costs tax payers alot more money than marijuana does, and it's detrimental to society too. Why aren't fat people in jail for having an uncontrollable urge to eat? Wouldn't it make sense that destroying someone's life for throwing them in jail is going to make them rely on the drugs even more? I know I sure would be pretty depressed if I landed in jail, especially if I have a family and a good career. What is the prison systems reform rate? I'm sure it's not very high. How many people go into jail for first time offenses in petty crimes like marijuana and end up leaving as expert criminals, or hooked on much worse drugs, or contract diseases? Compare that to the reform rate of a detox clinic. Frankly, none of that matters, because we are all being denied a basic constitutional right to freedom of choice. Nobody has any business telling me what I can and can't do with my own body. When my habits interfere with others ability to peacfully enjoy their own space, only then should it be a problem.
That would be awesome. I don't know if it will be legalized by 2010, but I would be willing to bet it will happen sometime in our lifetime.
There are thousands of ways the goverment could use to make money off of weed. Theres everything from taxing it like cigarettes, or taxing whole crops, like ones used for fiber production. You should look up the history of Marijuana, and see how other culters use it before you start making claims. Beause other societie's governments DO profit off of it all the time. Just look at Amsterdam. To sell marijauna there, you have to have a government permit to open a coffee house. And then you can sell marijuana. I dont know the specifics of thier laws, but I can tell you this, if someone has to get something thats "government authorized", you know theres gunna be a tax there for it.
In order for weed to be legal in the US, it will take nothing short of a coup. There is just too much ignorance and pride in our government. It sucks but sometimes you just have to face the music. I did hear that it was decriminalized in Rhode Island back in January. Just a headline I saw on CNN. Didn't get to watch the actual story though.
i want to believe...but come on....they wont let it happen at least with these hoes in office, maybe you saw it on comedy central?
I agree. Why would they make it legal if we could grow it? No one would by their stuff anyways. It would probably be shitty. But if they had like AK or something people would buy it. I have my dreams...
