It really isn't impractical and vehicle ownership is widespread. Every base I served on had free or very cheap long term storage for everything from home appliances to cars.

Yeah, but that's besides the point that they probably shouldn't. What do they need to do off base, or even out of the kitchen?

Having a phone conversation on the bus is like posting on the internet. It ain't private. Noisy and rude people on the bus will be told to STFU.

Might be. The chaplains usually have a variety of services for different religions. If not, there's always podcasts. Dependents have no excuse to be let out of the house.

I wasn't being serious. Obviously that one only amused me.

Me either, considering I am actually a military dependent.

You're not one of those dependents that throws around her husband's rank, are you?

Gah! That's the worst. I've seen that done on a number of occasions and it never ceases to be infuritating.

Does anybody really do that? Sure, I see the fb pages about certain dependents that do this, but I have yet to witness this IRL.

Two instances during my time stick out.

First, I was walking from the Area 13 chow hall on Camp Pendleton back to my barracks. A car comes driving past and I notice an officer base tag on it, along with a Colonel insignia next to it. The woman driving it? Obviously not a Marine. So my ass didn't salute. This woman slows down and I see her starting at me. Slower, slower, slower until she stops next to me and rolls down her window. She says "Marine, (yes, she Marine'd me) do you not see the sticker on my windshield. That means this car belongs to an officer." I replied "Yes ma'am, I saw it. I saw the bird too." She looked at me expectantly and finally asked as I just stared back "well, aren't you going to salute?" "are you a Colonel?" "No" she said. "are you a Marine?" "No" she again replied. "Well then fuck off." and went on my way.

Second instance involved a massive field exercise involving the better part of a regiment. My ass, along with a few other Marines, was tasked with closing a road, that was going to be used as a troop crossing, to civilian traffic. By the time I had established the road block I had been up for just over 24 hours. This car pulls up, this time with enlisted tags and a SgtMaj insignia next to it. I stop the vehicle and explain to the woman behind the wheel that the road was closed to civilian traffic and told her the alternate route. She says "or you can just let me through", in a very dismissive manner I might add. I told her I couldn't do that and, after asking where she was heading, told her that the detour would only add about 10 to 15 minutes to her drive. She wasn't hearing it and kept on saying that I could just let her through. I was starting to loose it and finally did when she said "Do you know who my husband is?" I replied "I don't, nor do I give a fuck." She then said "He is SgtMaj. So-and-so". "Again, ma'am, I don't give a fuck. Now move along. I don't think your husband would appreciate you fucking around like this." She huffed and puffed, and drove her dumb ass away.

I believe those are two cases of inflated sense of self importance (or perhaps just the opposite since they need to use their husbands rank). I don't know why I allow myself to get irritated by it.

Hahaha That's amusing. I guess that just goes to prove there are special snowflakes amongst most groups of people. My husband recently made his next rank. I went to his pinning on ceremony. It became really awkward when his peers started to congratulate me.

While some may get irritated, I'm relieved that I have my own identity, and I don't have to hide behind somebody else's. Maybe you should pity them instead.

They did? That is weird. What branch is your husband in?
