May I please have a reading

Anyway the deal is that I ain't no psychic, and there's nothing I can tell ya that you don't already know. However I could mess with you some and see how you respond, and then mess with you some more, and that might tell you something about yourself eventually. Wuddya say? You game? :2thumbsup: Now why would I make you a proposition like that? It's not an idle question, fm.

Oh, and as far as my reading for Tami - like I toldja, it's just what anybody with eyes can see. Can't you see it? I could be wrong, I suppose...but I really don't think so...

Your message is not a new one. Whatever reason you have for believing or disbelieving is still an opinion. Coming in and hijacking this thread that was started by a well-meaning believer, who believes for her own reasons that are none of your concern, is a dick move. I'm sure you think you're doing her and every other silly little believer a service, but it's actually just kind of cruel and stupid. Glad you're having fun. Must be nice to totally disregard others for your own amusement.
Personally, I don't see what's fun about that. No one is being hurt or taken advantage of, here. You're not saving anyone, so what's it to you?

I'm not saying you have to agree with it or even that you shouldn't debate it, but couldn't you at least have the common courtesy to start your own thread instead of sidelining Tami's? Not only is it rude, but I'm pretty sure hijacking is against the rules...

Oh groan Open forum, free speech forum, I like sharing my views and I aint going to stop. Happened to get into what I thought was a chat with zen in someone else's thread, happens all the time. People were free to respond to Tami still, and I never meant to "hijack". Thought about making another thread, but didn't want the forum to become "oh give me a reading!" infested.

I think it'd be such a shame if everyone just remained confined to what is seen to be "their" places. I guess I should only post in the atheism forum about my views on religion. What a boring lot of coversation that would produce, everyone nodding and agreeing. If you can't stand to have your views challenged (in a very friendly and non malicious way) you're not going to do a very good job of forming them.

Furthermore, I did used to have beliefs in psychics and the like, and therefore I have an inside perspective, making this place not entirely alien to me.

 

This is the first I heard that telling people my view when it isn't accordant with their own is cruel and stupid.

We're lucky many philosophers/scientists/tecnicians of days past did not agree with you, otherwise progress would have been majorly hindered. Contradictory views meeting and being discussed, and theories having a sceptical eye cast upon them is what effective progress is made of. I'm massively grateful to those who have questioned or even heavily opposed my views in the past. They've helped to form who I am and will continue to do so.

But to address your point, don't forget I have a degree in a scientific discipline - just cuz I don't agree with you doesn't mean I'm hostile to a scientific perspective...quite the contrary, in fact.

In point of fact, I think the association between you and me here is a fortuitous one. But of course, you probably don't believe in divine appointments...

I'm glad you feel that way. I don't care if it's from what you believe to be a divine source or not. The very fact that you have such a different viewpoint affirms to me that talking with you is valuable, hence my participation. I think the fact that you have a background in science and I have one in the "spiritual" is wonderful, too. Fancy a hug and some virtual flowers?
